    Re: Saturday Night Live

Hey, here's what I thought were the 10 best sketches this season. Agree? Disagree?

    1) Who's on Top? (Alec Baldwin)
    2) Focus Group (Melissa McCarthy)
    3) Tell Him (Anna Faris)
    4) Greek Gods (Charlie Day)
    5) Bridal Shower Gifts (Emma Stone)
    6) Coach Burt (Steve Buscemi)
    7) Ode to Joy (Jimmy Fallon)
    8) Real Housewives of Disney (Lindsay Lohan)
    9) Slo-Mo Hallway (Josh Brolin)
    10) Text Message Evidence (Eli Manning)

I also liked "The Psychic Awards" from the Lindsay Lohan episode, but I'm not gonna put two sketches from that episode on a best-of list.

There was a cut third Catchphrase Kings of Comedy sketch, featuring Kate McKinnon as a Janeane Garofalo type (complete with notebook) and Jason Sudeikis as Denis Leary:

Wow. Jagger was the best host of the season for me. Sketches aside, I just loved his "am I doing it right?" "I don't get why this is funny but, alright" faces. During the karaoke sketch he sounded like he was doing an impression of Moss/Richard Ayoade. Which I loved.

    I love The Californians.

Huh. I just thought they wanted to match Mick's red-and-black outfit.

In other news, I think it's a crazy idea to keep Sudeikis around just for the campaign. What if Romney wins? They'd have to either switch Romneys at the election or keep him around for a million years. Swap him out now and make a clear break.

This is true, but do you think the chances are likely that Romney's going to win?

Anyway, I imagine they'd just switch over to having Taran do it midway through the season if that happens. They've had to change presidential impersonators before (Forte taking over for Ferrell), it's not really a big deal.

Yes! I thought the same thing about Moss! I'll admit...never been to California, but I have watched a ton of soap operas. I love the Californians.

As much as I'll miss Kristen, I hate that Suds didn't have the send-off that he deserved--not only thought but you could tell he was emotionally distraught as he was not singing at all. I thought for sure, though, that maybe--just maybe--we would see the A-holes again. That was a sketch that I fell in love with back when Jack Black/Neil Young aired at the end of 2005. The same episode that really changed the direction of SNL in past several years because that episode, I felt, put Andy on the map.

Last week's episode, combined with last night's Lazy Sunday 2 basically was the send off for Andy.

Those are all good points. The chances of defeating an incumbent are low, but for Obama to be re-elected with unemployment so high would also be an anomaly.

Unfair Sudeikis and Samburg didn't get that same awesome sendoff. Sudeikis looked angry, and I don't blame him.

I loved this the first time. I still preferred this to every other non-Stefon sketch from last night.

I'll allow that as a mass-consumer of (AST-friendly) standing-up comedy, that this sketch is targeted more towards me than the general SNL viewer. I'll also concede that this is an "easy" joke and the only one that made me snort was Reverse Gallagher. I still think it should've aired.

My good friend that I grew up with was in Lazy Sunday 2! She played herself (the waitress).

People hate Fred? And the Californians? WTH?

I enjoy Seth but I'd really like to see a Mulaney Update as soon as possible.

I have decided that my favorite thing about the goodbye to Kristen Wiig is that they pretended it was a sketch for like twenty seconds.

I don't think Bill hates them - just probably thinks they should move on to stuff where they can completely shine on their own. At least that's how I feel about Fred.

    Re: Saturday Night Live

Yeah, I don't hate Fred, but...ten seasons is enough. He doesn't seem like he's going anywhere though, so i guess he is going to try to tie Darrell Hammond's record for hanging around as long as possible. He really doesn't have to, because he has Portlandia, he has established himself separately apart from SNL. And personally, I think the stuff he has done on SNL the last couple of seasons has been pretty bad....Roger Brush the talk show guy, the "I can't find my crackers" lady, all the various foreign dictators he plays all the time, the interminable Garth and Kat...it's been a while since he's created a really good new recurring character at SNL.

As for the Californians....I'm glad if people here like it, but I think it's really stupid. I get the joke of the sketch, but it's still a one-joke sketch and I'm assuming the reason people are liking it is because of the cast cracking up during it. Or do you guys really think funny voices and people giving directions is all that funny?

I will agree with Newt about one thing though--- John Mulaney for Update, definitely. He should take over as head writer too I think. With so many people leaving, it's time for a new era to begin on the writing end as well.

That yellow puppet is right. And yeah, Sudeikis did seem really down or pissed, and it probably wasnt just cos of Kristen. Maybe he was fired and was upset bout not getting same kind of send off
