Thread: RIP Bernie Mac

    Re: RIP Bernie Mac

I always liked Bernie Mac. He was the only "King" of comedy that was actually funny. As an actor, he was enjoyable in the Ocean's films and especially Bad Santa. He didn't break any ground, but he was solid. 50 is way too young.

His Fox show was defiantly good too. RIP Uncle Bernie.

    Who's next Terry Kiser. Geez.

    Re: RIP Bernie Mac

His publicist was trying to downplay it the whole time. And now he's dead.

This is sad and pretty unexpected.

What the hell? Bernie Mac dying doesn't even make sense in my brain. This is sad, for anyone who's never really given Bernie Mac a chance, I'd give his stand up another listen. I only recently really gave it a chance and I was really impressed. It's obviously not alt-comedy type stuff, but it's still great stand up. Very funny man, this is very sad.

He was my favourite King of Comedy. The stuttering nephew bit always cracks me up.

    so very sad.

50 is definitely way too young.

(i was talking to my friend Monica who said "I mean, we could do with less DL Hughley, but, NOT BERNIE!")

    Re: RIP Bernie Mac

Although I never really went out of my way to see his work, any time he was onscreen I found him fascinating to watch.

For some reason, one scene that always stuck with me was when he played Frank in Ocean's 11. Clooney meets up with him as Frank is dealing cards at a casino. He calls him by his name, and Bernie responds:
I beg your pardon. You must have me confused with someone else. My name is Ramon. As you can see right here.
It's a simple scene, but the way Bernie says the line, and looks at him and taps his name badge as he "corrects" him is like poetry.

A talented and funny man... he will be missed. Condolences to his family and friends.

This is sad. Bernie Mac was a hilarious stand-up that was able to turn into just a funny guy in movies.

Jesse Thorn posted this a long time ago on his blog and its great. Its Bernie Mac's first appearance on Def Comedy Jam. That show got a lot of shit for its audience, but I've never seen someone take advantage of that so well to work the crowd as this. I don't know if its his first TV appearance but if it is, what a way to break down the gate.

What the hell! He said he was going to retire and take some time to enjoy life. This is not fair!

thanks for that clip eric (and by extent, thanks jesse)

didn't know a lot of his work, but from the responses here, looks like he was pretty good in every one of his credits.

when i saw the bernie brillstein thread the other day, i originally expected the second word to be 'mac' after seeing the news reports earlier in the week.

How strange. Every time the Bernie Brillstein thread was bumped, it would only show 'The Passing of Bernie...' and I'd think Bernie Mac.

    now I see this.

I was hoping it was a joke.

Wow, this hit me like a pile of bricks. He's hilarious and young and now gone.

Also, not to steal EricLuxury & GiggleChicks's thunder, but placing the YouTube ID of a clip in between YOUTUBE BBCode tags it gets the video embedded in the message.

    First... RIP sir.

Second, I know exactly what you mean here Liezl. Just yesterday I saw on the opening page "the passing of Bernie" and I literally thought "Oh no, Bernie Mac died?!?" and then when I clicked on it I thought "That's a shame about Brillstein, but I am glad Bernie Mac isn't dead"

I wouldn't type that here if it weren't absolutely true, I don't mess around with death and respect. My mind is sad and blown. RIP.
