    Pilot Season 2013

LOL, never too early to start this I guess.

    From Deadline:

NBC has put in development Assistance, a single-camera comedy from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods. It will be written by Leslye Headland, who wrote and directed the feature Bachelorette, also produced by Gary Sanchez.

Based on a play by Headland, Assistance follows Nora, an idealistic assistant, and her daily efforts to try to find balance in her life as she strives to please her larger than life boss. Gary Sanchez’s Jessica Elbaum and Owen Burke will executive produce along with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

The project stems from Gary Sanchez’s overall deal with Universal TV, which will produce the comedy. Headland, repped by CAA and Caliber Media, is writing a remake of About Last Night for Screen Gems, with Steve Pink directing and Joy Bryant, Kevin Hart and Michael Ealy starring.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

ABC is giving new life to "Super Fun Night," a comedy pilot written by and starring "Bridesmaids" scene-stealer Rebel Wilson.

The show, about three geeky female friends and their quest to liven up their Friday nights, was in contention at CBS last pilot season. The network passed, but ABC took an interest over the summer and has now greenlit a new pilot, Deadline reports.

The show will get a pretty extensive revamping in its new home. It was shot as a multi-camera show at CBS, but the new version will be single-camera. Wilson's friends, played by Jenny Slate and Edi Patterson in the first pilot, will be recast.

"Super Fun Night" also has a new showrunner in "30 Rock" and "Larry Sanders Show" veteran John Riggi. He takes over from Ted Cohen and Andrew Reich ("Friends," "Work It"), who were signed only for the CBS pilot.

Wilson currently stars in the indie comedy "Bachelorette" and will next be seen in "Pitch Perfect," which opens Sept. 28.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

The trio behind Ted, the biggest comedy hit of the summer, are teaming for another project, this time in television. Fox has snagged the multi-camera live-action comedy, written/executive produced by Ted co-writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild and executive produced by Ted co-writer/director/star Seth MacFarlane, with a put pilot commitment that has a series penalty behind it. The untitled project, from 20th Century Fox TV where MacFarlane is under a rich overall deal, centers on two successful guys in their 30s who have their lives turned upside down when their nightmare dads unexpectedly move in with them.

Writing team Wild and Sulkin have worked with MacFarlane for a while — they have been on Family Guy since 2005, rising to executive producers. Family Guy is one of three animated series MacFarlane has on Fox, along with spinoff The Cleveland Show and American Dad, as well as the upcoming reboot of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

In its maiden development season, Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Television has sold two single-camera comedies to ABC, Please Knock, written by Kevin Napier, and The Notorious Mollie Flowers, written by Adam Resnick (The Larry Sanders Show). Both are being produced by ABC Studios. Red Hour TV was launched at the end of last year when Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld’s Red Hour Films signed an overall deal with ABC Studios and brought in veteran film and TV executive Debbie Liebling to run the new TV division. Stiller, Cornfeld and Liebling executive produce both ABC comedies, which have received script commitments.

Loosely based on Stiller’s life, Please Knock centers on Mitch Fuller, an A-list actor who realizes he’s losing touch with reality and his family, and moves back to the same building he grew up in in New York, where his parents still live. Napier is writing-executive producing. Please Knock reunites Knapier with Red Hour. In 2009, he wrote the company’s off-beat comedy pilot at Fox, The Station, which Stiller directed and executive produced.

The Notorious Mollie Flowers is set in Cape May, New Jersey. When the town’s sweetest, cutest, most selfless do-gooder is falsely accused of a crime, her reputation in town is suddenly tarnished. After being exonerated, she decides it’s time to start focusing on her own needs for once, much to the dismay of everyone around her. Resnick is writing-executive producing.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

Next year should be really interesting in the TV landscape. "30 Rock" will be gone. "The Office" will be gone. Judging by the fact that they got moved to Fridays and only got picked up for 13 episodes (and Donald Glover is currently pitching his own series to NBC), "Community" will probably be gone. The showrunners for "How I Met Your Mother" have said they are treating this current season as the last season for all intents and purposes.

"Two and a Half Men" is currently in its tenth season, which is insane. One has to assume that they just gave Jon Cryer a Best Actor Emmy because they felt sorry for him for being stuck on that piece of crap show and this will most likely be its last season.

Assuming all these shows get cancelled, that would leave "The Big Bang Theory" as the longest-running live action sitcom on the air (it would be going into its seventh season). Oddly enough, Parks & Rec would be the 2nd going into its sixth season. It really doesn't seem like P&R has been on the air 5 seasons (maybe because the 1st season was so short and the third season was shorter than normal too).

So I guess there's probably going to be a lot more development than usual this next cycle, especially if things like "Go On" and "Animal Practice" and "Guys with Kids" don't work out for NBC. FOX and ABC seem to be doing OK comedy-wise for right now.

I just hope someone can come up with an idea for a show in which a minor celebrity I don't care about plays a heightened version of him or herself.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

The lives of two young couples are the subjects of two comedy projects set up at Fox. One is an untitled half-hour from writers Michael Colton, John Aboud and Sony Pictures Television, the other, Adultish, hails from writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand (How I Met Your Mother), Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV.

The Colton/Aboud project centers on a couple that has their peaceful Brooklyn existence turned upside down when the wife’s Uruguayan parents move in to help take care of their kids. The project is inspired by Colton’s relationship with his Uruguayan in-laws, and the language and cultural barriers that keep them at odds. He previously wrote a comedic piece in the New York Times Magazine about how the language barrier between him and his father-in-law ruined his marriage proposal to his wife. Colton and Aboud will write the script and will executive produce with Peter Principato and Paul Young of Principato Young Entertainment.

In the style of a Civil War documentary, Gregor and Mand’s Adultish dissects a 30-something-couple’s daily battles between the young, immature people they’ve been versus the adult, mature people they’re supposed to become. Gregor and Mand executive produce with Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. Gregor and Mand, repped by CAA and Kaplan/Perrone, were recently hired to write a feature for Paramount Pictures about a group of high school outcasts who stage an Ocean’s Eleven-style heist. The Upright Citizens Brigade duo also wrote the feature Die Hard In A Building, which is being produced by Mosaic. Imagine is with CAA.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

    From Deadline:

In a very competitive situation with multiple networks bidding, a comedy starring Rachael Harris (The Hangover) and The Office‘s Angela Kinsey has gone to Fox with a put pilot commitment. Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer is set to direct the project, created by Glee co-executive producer Stacy Traub, Harris and Kinsey and to be written by Traub. Titled Dirty Blondes, the comedy, from 20th Century Fox TV, is based on the real life long-time friendship of Kinsey and Harris. It centers on two women who’ve been friends for 16 years. Both get divorced and are brought closer together by the experience. Traub and Fleischer executive produce, with Harris and Kinsey co-executive producing.

Harris and Kinsey have been friends since meeting at the Los Angeles Groundlings improv theater early in their careers. Meanwhile, Traub worked with Harris on the 2007 ABC comedy series Notes From The Underbelly created by Traub and co-starring Harris.

Angela Kinsey, who plays Dunder Mifflin’s feisty, tightly wound head of accounting on The Office, is the second regular cast member of the departing NBC comedy to book a lead on a potential new series, along with Rainn Wilson who is headlining The Office spinoff The Farm. For Fleischer, the project stems from the two-year deal with 20th TV he inked in July. It marks his second sale at Fox; he also has John Phillips comedy Starting Up.

UTA-repped Fleischer started out directing music video and commercials, moved on to directing segments for ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Funny Or Die videos. His feature credits include Zombieland, 30 Minute Or Less and Gangster Squad. Harris, repped by UTA, Principato-Young and Rick Genow, recently recurred on Fox’s New Girl and co-starred in the feature Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days; Kinsey is with UTA and Adam Griffin; Traub is with UTA.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

    From Deadline:

EXCLUSIVE: In a big early casting coup this broadcast development season, Saturday Night Live star Andy Samberg is set as the lead of Fox‘s untitled Mike Schur/Dan Goor comedy pilot. The single-camera comedy, written by the Parks And Recreation duo of co-creator/exec producer/showrunner Schur and executive producer Goor, is about a diverse group of detectives in a precinct at the very edge of New York City. Emmy winner Samberg will play the lead detective. He will also serve as a producer of the comedy, from Universal TV, which is executive produced by Schur, Goor and 3 Arts’ David Miner. “Andy’s hilarious, and he was the first guy we thought of when we designed the part,” Schur and Goor said. “From the moment we mentioned his name, everyone at Universal Television and Fox was 100% on-board. Andy loved the pitch, and it all came together really quickly. We couldn’t be happier.” Schur and Goor have worked with Samberg before — he guest starred in a 2010 episode of Parks & Rec.

In a fierce biggest bidding war, Schur and Goor’s pitch landed at Fox in August with a rich pilot production commitment. The casting of Samberg will no doubt turn that into a pilot order once the script is completed.

During his seven-year stint on Saturday Night Live, which he left this summer, Samberg, along with his Lonely Island cohorts Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, helped usher the venerable sketch comedy show into the digital age with their viral digital shorts, including megahit “D*** In A Box” featuring Timberlake, which won them an Emmy.
Samberg is currently starring on the hit BBC Three sitcom Cuckoo, where he plays an idle young American who marries a British girl and comes into conflict with his wife’s overprotective father (Greg Davies). He can also be seen in the features Celeste & Jesse Forever and is heard opposite Adam Sandler in the animated box office hit Hotel Transylvania after recently starring opposite Sandler in That’s My Boy. Samberg, Schur and Goor are repped by UTA. Samberg is managed by Mosaic, Schur by 3 Arts.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

More on this from The Hollywood Reporter:

The Office creator Greg Daniels is back in business.

With the long-running Thursday night comedy unspooling its final season, Daniels has lined up his next potential project, and he's bringing along a few familiar faces.

NBC has given script orders to an untitled workplace comedy from Daniels and The Office supervising producer Owen Ellickson starring Craig Robinson, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Ellickson will pen the project, which revolves around a talented musician (Robinson) as he adjusts to his new life as a music teacher at a middle school. Ellickson will pen the script and executive produce for Universal TV, Daniels' Deedle Dee Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment. Daniels, Deedle Dee's Tracy Katsky and 3 Arts' Howard Klein and Mark Schulman also will executive produce. Robinson will serve as a producer.

Daniels announced in August that the Office would end its run after its current ninth season. The Office's Paul Lieberstein, meanwhile, is also prepping The Farm, a back-door pilot for a potential spinoff centering on Rainn Wilson's Dwight that will function as an episode of the NBC comedy this season.

Universal TV, one of the studios behind The Office, also recently locked up former EP/current Parks and Recreation showrunner Michael Schur in a new two-year overall deal that will see the Emmy winner develop additional projects for the studio. Meanwhile, the rest of The Office's creative team has had a busy development season, selling numerous scripts to NBC.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

EXCLUSIVE: In his first foray into animation, director-producer Jake Kasdan has teamed with writer-producer Lew Morton for comedy Wentworth Hall, which has been put in development by Fox. 20th Century Fox TV, where Kasdan is under an overall deal, will produce. Based on an idea by Morton, who will write the script, Wentworth Hall follows a group of misfit college students making plenty of bad decisions while attending a once-prestigious university. Morton and Kasdan executive produce, and Kasdan’s producing partner Melvin Mar is producing. This marks Morton’s return to animation. The former Futurama writer-producer, repped by CAA, most recently co-created and executive produced the CBS comedy Rob. Wentworth Hall reunites Kasdan and Morton; they previously worked together on Fox series Undeclared and the movie Walk Hard.
This marks Kasdan’s third sale this development season, following deals at ABC for a Kate Robin family soap and at NBC for comedy High Life. WME-repped Kasdan executive produces Fox’s New Girl, whose pilot he directed, along with the pilot of the network’s freshman comedy Ben And Kate.

    Re: 2013-2014 Development Slate

    From Deadline:

Fox is giving a 13-episode series order to Murder Police, an animated comedy from former Family Guy executive producer/co-showrunner David Goodman and Jason Ruiz. The show follows a dedicated but inept detective and his partner in a twisted city precinct as they try to solve serious crimes. Goodman and Ruiz created and wrote the project, originally picked up by the network as a presentation. Goodman serves as executive producer; Ruiz as co-executive producer. Murder Police is produced at Bento Box Animation for 20th Century Fox TV.

Murder Police marks Fox’s first animated series order in more than two years — since the October 2010 pickup of Jonah Hill’s Allen Gregory for 7 episodes (with Goodman as executive producer/showrunner), and Napoleon Dynamite for 6. Neither of the two were renewed for a second season. Fox has been looking to bring new blood to its aging Sunday animated comedy block. Of the network’s existing toon series, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad and Bob’s Burgers have been renewed, while The Cleveland Show‘s future beyond this season is in doubt. Goodman is with UTA, Mosaic and Ziffren; Ruiz with UTA, Levity Entertainment and Ziffren.
