Was the Kevin character always as dumb as he has been this season? I was watching a bunch of this season's eps recently and my god... it's way over the top how dumb he is.

Some of this season has been enjoyable to watch. Andy's continued plunge towards being a horribly unlikeable character has not been. It's just sad.

Since he startedout as a horribly unlikable character, maybe this is the Ofiice paying tribute to Nietzche's theory of eternal recurrence.

Gethard was great. The scene where he showed receipts for his gun and safe was hilarious.

    Re: The Office thread

Maybe it's because they're almost about to go off the air, but I really enjoyed all the shows on the Thursday night line up this week. 30 Rock was of course great, but Up All Night was an above average episode too, with a larger than usual role for Matt Braunger and a lot of funny moments. It made me wonder if Braunger will be retained as a cast member once the show switches over to being a multi-camera show. Braunger does have some live comedy acting experience after all, from being on Mad TV. I know the last single-camera episode this year is going to be a wedding flashback episode which is going to introduce some new characters (Chris's parents, and Allan Havey as his touchy-feely uncle), so I'm not sure if they're doing that in preparation for making the cast bigger once the switch to multi-cam happens.

This "Office" episode was really good too, I noticed it was written by Graham Wagner who was a writer on "The Life and Times of Tim" (he also follows me on Twitter. Hi Graham if you're reading this!). I guess it's a little strange that they're bringing in new writers for the final season but Graham did a really good job writing this episode.

I'm really going to miss when all these shows are gone next season. (I'm not entirely sure the Up All Night makeover's going to be a success). It's hard to tell what kind of a direction NBC's going to go in, I hope they balance out the multi-camera shows with at least a few single-camera ones.

    Re: The Office thread

There's a couple of things that haven't been posted here yet, one is that the "Farm" episode that was produced is going to be airing later in the season as an episode of "The Office".

And today comes the news that Steve Carell is probably not coming back for the final episode. Apparently he's happy with the way Michael Scott left the show and feels he doesn't need to come back for a final appearance.

Also, at the TCA press tour this weekend, NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt announced that he is "hopeful" for the future of Parks & Rec and Community, but nothing offficial has been decided yet.

Regarding Steve Carell: I think that's a smart move. His exit episode and that final scene in the airport was a very classy, tear jerking end. However, it would be nice if in the finale Pam tells us she's been in touch with Michael and he and Holly are on their second kid or something. We don't have to see him - but a little mention of his happiness in Boulder would be a nice touch, IMO - like a postcard or some item he sends her that ties his memory into the series finale without actually having him on.

Greg Daniels talks about the "Office" finale

.Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak will return for the one-hour finale and Zach Woods, who played Gabe Lewis on the show, will be back for one of the final episodes too. Steve Carell, however, will not be back. Daniels says, "Steve is very much of the opinion that the 'Goodbye Michael' episode and the story arc that we did leading up to it was his goodbye and end to the show, and that [this season] is the goodbye the rest of the show gets to have."

.Daniels advises fans to start tuning in for the season's 12th episode on January 24th, which is "the beginning of the end, where we start to break down what's going on with this documentary and see [the] behind the scenes of who's involved… If you look at how many characters we have here and you think that [the finale] will be our 200th half hour, I don't think we are planning on packing everything into the last episode."

.Someone will be fired in Episode 15.

.Ken Kwapis, who directed the pilot, is returning to direct the finale.

.The finale hasn't been written yet. Daniels says, "There's an idea, but it's a very collaborative process. Every time we have a table read and somebody comes up with a better idea than we have in the script, it pulls the story forward a little bit and we have to invent something at the end. We do have a goal that we're aiming for, how we get there is changing… there are still a lot of good things that we have planned for the rest of the goodbyes," adding that each character will get his/her own "really good, interesting sendoff."

.Daniels returned to be showrunner for the 9th season, explaining, "I couldn't imagine a scenario where I wouldn't be directing what was happening at the end. That happened to me on King Of The Hill." Daniels referred to his connection with The Office as "more emotional than any other show I've ever had."

."Toby is going to go visit [the Scranton Strangler] in prison soon, so we will learn a little bit more about whether he was wrongly imprisoned or rightfully imprisoned, and it still remains to be seen whether there is a big reveal or not. Creed's been pushing for some weird connection to this guy."

.Daniels says the decision to end the show after Season 9 "was made by pretty much everybody who is a producer now, which includes a lot of the main cast. But we were still doing very well for NBC, I think they'd probably have us back for another year."

Seems like it's got to be Andy. Even for this show, that character has done an outstanding job of avoiding work.

    Re: The Office thread

I'm really enjoying this last season of The Office, less emphasis is being put on who's in charge leading to a free-for-all of shenanigans to be had with the rest of the cast. You don't miss Michael Scott as much when your not constantly reminded of who his lesser replacement is. I know we probably won't get the emotion of some of the earlier seasons but I'm hoping for big things in the finale and the episodes leading up to it.

As for the firing, they've already done the "Andy is fired" thing so I think they might go somewhere else. They already planted the seeds of Pam not being crazy about moving to Philly so I'm thinking maybe she gets fired which helps her change her mind about moving.

I'm excited to let this play out and see where everything goes but as much as part of me loves that they decided to get in some great story while they can part of me wishes they'd just do a few classic episodes while they can instead. I think for the most part things have been interesting but I can't help but wish that with only a dozen episodes left Jim and Pam could at least be in the same city, if not in a happy marriage.

    Re: The Office thread

I like the idea that, because it's the end, they can kind of break down all these stories with no worry about the lasting effects.

I think everything will be fine with Jim and Pam (how crazy would it be if it didn't?) but I like that there's some realism in there. And I'm glad we're seeing more of the behind-the-scenes stuff. Why not deal with all that documentary weirdness before this whole thing ends?

Also really liked the 7-year-old prank thrown in there, with the old-style Jim "flashback".

Last season I was watching just out of continuity, but I'm actually enjoying most of the episodes this season. They're not perfect, and they follow P&R, which makes them look even worse by comparison, but they've been fairly decent.

Yeah, I actually think showing the crew is cool, but if that sound guy becomes part of the story (ie. something develops between him and Pam) it will be really weird and bad. The show's been really good lately though. I think they are going out on a high note, so far at least. And the Jim/Pam stuff was very real and well done.
