If you're reading this, fellow AST denizen Natalie Portmanteau: you have no idea how much we discuss your screenname on my podcast.

(Well... three times, less than a minute each time. So I guess now you do know.)

Did anyone else get the Ernie Kovacs Box Set? I am floored by how amazing it is. I expected some degree of dated corniness (the earliest show on the set is from 1951), but so far I'm shocked by how unconventional it even is by today's standards. I don't think even Adult Swim would air this. I almost want to say it makes Tim & Eric look like the Oscars (in terms of production rigidness) by comparison, but maybe that would be taking it too far.

There's a doc about Sid Caesar that talks about how niche TV used to be, that only wealthy, educated people had the first ones and the programming was surprisingly sophisticated.

Is Turquoise Jeep the spiritual heir to Pootie Tang? Do y'all love Turquoise Jeep as much as I do? Do they deserve their own thread?

I'll field this one. He is Kate Micucci.

Haha, I'll explain: In the original pilot for the show, Kate played Jimmy(the lead character on the show)'s cousin. When they did reshoots, the character was changed from female to male and Kate was replaced with Skyler Stone, who you can see in the pic. I haven't seen every episode of the show, but you're right, he isn't a very frequently appearing character. That is an early press shot, when I guess he was going to be a much more important character than he ended up being.

The producers liked Kate, so eventually they gave her the role as the babysitter/dogsitter, a role where she also gets to utilize her ukelele playing ability.

Yes, Turquoise Jeep deserve their own thread. KEEP THE JEEP RIDING.

Meanwhile, 2 broke girls. Apparently it doesn't have it's own thread, which isn't that surprising. I've heard mixed reviews. Plus it's a hit, so it probably stinks.

Anywho. 2 broke girls got pwned on a press tour.

    LINK

PASADENA - I walk up to "2 Broke Girls" co-creator Michael Patrick King, offer my hand and say, "Mr. King, I'm sorry things got so ugly there, but I wanted to say that it came from a place where a lot of us in the room like the parts of your show involving Kat and Beth, and want the rest of the show to live up to that."

King, stone-faced, silently turns and walks off the stage.

    30 minutes earlier…

I hope saying something racist and then trying to excuse it by yelling "I'm gay!" becomes a new meme

Re: The "not worth its own thread" thread

2 Broke Girls is awful. There are occasional glimmers of a good (ok, decent) show that could exist, I think the two leads do have a fairly good chemistry, but every character beyond them is a one note stereotype and every other line of dialogue is a crude sex joke you can see coming from a mile away. And the individual episode plots seem like the writers just watch cable reality shows for all their ideas. Hoarders, Extreme Couponing, The Real Housewives of New York, etc. have all been featured as A plots.

Plus they had Eddie Pepitone on and never let him actually appear on camera. UNFORGIVABLE!

Absurd People's Court. GF sues BF for stealing her act. BF has weird "bobble head" friend who says "women aren't funny".

When did the announcer get SO SERIOUS! I miss Doug Llewelyn.

How come the same group of predictable sycophants aren't shitting all over Daniel Kinno and Tj Miller over this?

Oh wait, answered my own question.
