I think their should be more backlash against Belknap for ridiculousy saying Harry Potter is for 7 or 8 year olds. Harry Potter is the shit man! Obviously never even seen a book in the series and never seen past the 2nd movie

Samm the caterpillar says, "Grow up, kid!"
Matt's on fire this episode!
(Upon hearing that Glenn Frey has a new album coming out) "Oh, can you package that together with the new Joe Walsh album so I can throw them both away at the same time?"
Then later:
Jimmy: "You know who I fear?"
Matt: "The Reaper"
Jimmy: "That's right"
Matt: "Well, don't!"
A lot of funny stuff in this episode so far
Harry Potter and the mitten of wool. Good one.
Stewart Lee is right, and I mostly agree with the sentiment of Samm. He just said he's not going to go see it in a theater. When the first Harry Potter book came out, I saw a business man reading it on an airplane, with the Scholastic logo in full view and I felt embarrassed for him. I was 14.

Pardo: So what?
Belknap: So...plenty. Sew buttons.
Honestly, I also often have similar thoughts to Samm -- its a little frightening that the most popular movies/books amongst adults over the past few years have been targetted towards teens. Living in New York and riding the subway when the final Harry Potter book came out was a surreal experience.
Of course, I usually keep those thoughts to myself, and counter them with thoughts of "well at least people are reading" and "art is subjective, like what you like" mostly because trying to voice those thoughts will inevitably lead to people thinking you are being a dick.
That said, I thought Samm was awesome in this episode, and was primarily joining into the fun fake anger atmosphere we all love.
It makes sense for the Harry Potter books to be popular among adults because the writing is actually really good and the stories are interesting. What doesn't make sense is adult men and women enjoying Twilight. The stories are incredibly drawn out and boring and the writing is terrible (I speak from experience, having read all 4). I can't speak on Hunger Games though. The story doesn't interest me but I can see why other people would like it and I have no clue how the writing is in the books.
I think Samm Levine is a great Never Not Funny guest. His opinion about not watching movies for which you're not the target audience is crazy, but that doesn't get in the way of me enjoying him.

So it's OK to suggest some young adult literature has gotten inappropriate attention from adults, but not all? That's why your last 20+ posts have been openly talking about why you dislike Samm? Seems hypocritical.
I promise I will drop it; I just want to understand where you are coming from.
Where's aenemaTron when we need him (to shut down pointless discussions)?

This. Samm's argument is utterly ludicrous, but thats totally beside the point. The point is Jimmy and Matt shat on him a bit, and they all laughed about it. While Samm seems to take himself quite seriously, he also seems to sincerely laugh at himself (see "under canopy" for example).
I will not be reading comments with a target audience of less than 50 years old.
Now that I think about it, I also think Jimmy's got some crazy opinions about The Knack.

If you're implying that his opinion on the Knack's greatness is wrong...well, "Get The Knack" is in my All-Time Top 10. So there's at least 3 of us that love that band. ( Me, Jimmy, Pat Francis ) .

Who are Pixar movies for? Who is The Tree of Life "for?" It can get out of hand. I judge things based on whether I like them or not, and that's tied to whether I think they accomplished what they've attempted to do, artistically. Having read the Hunger Games has not stopped me from also reading other more adult things. Don't be a slave to demographics, Samm. You were in Not Another Teen Movie, whatever that means to this.
(This isn't a dumb discussion, but it is being handled in a dumb way.)
Pixar is a little bit different in that I think the creators of those movies would tell you that when they're making them they're not making them strictly for children, they are also trying to make movies that adults can enjoy. I don't see anything wrong with enjoying Pixar movies as an adult or even ranking them among your favorite movies of the year. However, if you are a 30 year old man and you have Pixar stuff all over your room, like pictures of Buzz Lightyear and the Incredibles, that would be a little strange. If you're a 30 year old woman and you do, I guess it would be a little less strange, but think of Ellie Kemper's character in "Bridesmaids", it's still kind of weird.
I'm not sure when Suzanne Collins was writing the Hunger Games books whether she was really writing them intending for adults to read them, I think she was probably writing them at what she considers a young adult level. Similarly, full grown adults who are a little TOO into Harry Potter kind of creep me out a bit. I think it's when you take it from a "enjoying a movie" level to a "fandom" level that it kind of becomes inappropriate.
For better or worse, "Not Another Teen Movie" was aimed at adults, it was an R-rated movie making fun of teen movies. However, Samm WAS in "Sydney White", but I'm sure that's not a movie he sits down and watches for fun, it was probably strictly a job for him (i.e. David Cross doing the Chipmunks movie).
