Yeah, I know. And I feel bad about it too. Like I have said before, I never minded him on DLM, but understood why some fans get annoyed by him and I went into this episode hoping he would win me over. But I just really got irked by him saying grown ups shouldnt watch something based on a book that is not marketed directly toward them, and then trying to get us all (I assume we are mostly grown-ups who listen) to watch his kid show he is in. I don't care one way or the other about Hunger Games, but the way he acted like he was better than the people who went to see it in the theater really just bugs me. And I don't need to meet him for something like that to bug me. I don't hate the guy, nor do I dislike him. He just bugs me sometimes.

Just be glad I didn't post my feelings when that Rebecca Corry episode came out...

I never understood the backlash towards her, either. Get a fucking grip.

I didn't. I don't think I said anything negative about him in my last comment. Just explained myself.

It was embarrassing for her to listen to. Get your own grip!

I haven't listened to the episode yet, but I have to say I agree a little with Samm in his opinion on Harry Potter, Twilight, Hunger Games, etc. As a librarian...these books are YA fiction. They are aimed at young adults, which means teenagers or younger. Of course adults can read the books or watch the movies and get something out of them, but they are not the target audience for these books or movies.

Now Samm choosing to plug his appearance on a kid's show does make him somewhat hypocritical on this point, yes. I don't watch "Yo Gabba Gabba" or whatever kid's show it is that he's on because I'm not a kid, and I don't have kids. I guess I would watch a clip of it if a comedian I liked was on there.

The problem is that his point is that adults CAN'T watch movies based on them because that makes them dumb. I'm 26 years old and I enjoyed the last few Harry Potter movies, so I guess I was kind of offended that he was pretty much saying he was smarter than me because he didn't watch them.

Exactly. Why is it a big deal for someone to come on here and NOT like a guest on a podcast for legitimate reasons? It's not like I am saying I hate Samm Levine because he is short or his voice is dumb. He said something that offended me, and so did Rebecca Corry. When a guest comes on that I like, which is admittedly about 98% of the time, I also come on here and talk about how much I enjoy them. It's not like I am just some internet troll trying to start arguments about dumb shit.

To be clear, I said no comment about Rebecca Corry because that's the only episode I ever turned off before I finished it. Samm is quick-witted, intelligent, and insightful. The knock on him is that sometimes he tries a little too hard to make sure we all know that about him. But I'll gladly put up with the latter for the former. Corry was on a whole different scale of mean-spirited humor.

Wasn't Doug technically the first one to say Hunger Games is for children?

Also, I don't think Samm said anything about not being able to watch children's movies. I think his frustration stemmed from the discussion of movies based on books for young adults turning into a serious 10 minute discussion.

Samm: Ask me if I saw Harry Potter
Jimmy: Did you see Harry Potter?
    Samm: No! Because I'm 30.

I actually had never even heard of NNF at the time that the Fitzsimmons episode aired so I missed all of that controversy. But I thought the episode was funny and think that the fact that Jimmy said Greg was just joking around and he wasn't offended by anything that we shouldn't be offended by anything, since most of his insults were directed at him.

I meant on Doug Loves Movies which I forgot to specify. It was brought up on NNF because of that discussion on DLM.

Well, Scamboogah has put a pin in this conversation so lets move on to something else. How about this crazy weather, huh? I heard the east coast may be getting a foot of snow...

I think the real takeaway from this episode is that Dan Katz needs to appear on Doug Loves Movies at some point.
