Morning Zoo references - a moratorium.

Dear AST-ers. I, like many of you, listen to a ton of comedy podcasts. Am I crazy or does every 1.5 episodes include a digression wherein the hosts compare themselves and the situation they are in to a Morning Zoo crew? Someone puts on a nasal Pat O'Brien voice and says something about "traffic and weather together" or intones a wacky sound effect of some kind.

Now I am by no means targeting any one show - for to do that would be unfair as so many shows are guilty of falling into this joke trap. I think I've heard this tired gag on no less than 4 new shows in the last 24 hours.

No, my call is to us, the listeners, to post IN THIS VERY THREAD, imploring podcast hosts to give the Morning Zoo reference a breather. Many, if not most of these hosts don't listen to any other shows, let alone as many shows as the podcast connoisseurs who post here... Which means that these hosts don't know how tired this gag has become, how a previously solid bit of jokery now invokes pangs of disgust, how a vocal tone and oddball sidekick name might make one want to tear the headphones out of ones ears and throw them at the nearest, cutest thing.

History may prove me wrong, but friends now is the time to carve our names into the hallowed halls of humour... no more shall we stand for 'podcast crew as morning zoo' buffoonery!

How about a moratorium on complaining about any form of free entertainment, ever?

Morning Zoos deserve to be made fun of every day in every way because they suck ass.

Argh, burn in hell, everyone hates you for having an idea and sharing it!! Really though, I can't think of a single instance in which I've heard this reference made, and if I did, than I guess it didn't bother me enough for me to remember it.

I think the latest comedy film nerds podcast had one.

    I recommend it!

For what it's worth, today I listened to the latest Comedy Film Nerds (Maron) and Nerdist (PFT) episodes, and both had morning zoo imitations.

Ghost Dad isn't wrong about this being a common comedy podcast "thing."

It's like the airplane joke - It's a common standup comic experience.

I still believe there are no bad premises, only bad jokes.

Well, now I'm going to be extremely aware of it I'm sure if it's really that rampant. Then again, I only listen to one podcast on a regular basis, but do listen to others based on the guest(s). And wow, Comedy Film Nerds, I didn't even know this existed. Cool. Listening now.

Re: Morning Zoo references - a moratorium.

well, I'm glad some people saw the humour in my writing, thanks for voting - I clearly am part of a small minority while I thought I was going to be elected to be the chairperson of comedy.

I have been thinking about it and I probably should have added a third poll response:

"Ghost Dad should stop listening to podcasts 8 hours a day and get out more."

clearly that one is the winner.

If you reread my post it has nothing to do with complaining about free stuff, or rather it had to do with complaining with such hyperbolic bombast that no one would take it too seriously... we all heard PFT on the subject this week and who could disagree... I just heard that bit SO MANY times this week I reached a breaking point. Too much chocolate will make you sick of chocolate, and I'm the asshole who keeps shoving it down my ears.

    Kudos to all who participated!

and yea, Pardo does it best.

Remember on crank yankers when jimmy kimmel and patton oswalt would pretend to be a radio zoo crew and call up random businesses?

    I liked that

I also listen to about 8 hours of podcasts a day and I gotta say, though I've heard it a lot, I don't really get tired of it. If it's done right it's still funny. Adam Carolla just recently did a very funny take on the morning traffic in China on the Chris Parnell episode that had me L-ing O L quite a bit.
