    Little Britain USA

Here's the first look at "Little Britain USA", including a glimpse of some new characters (some kind of astronaut played by David Walliams, and two bodybuilder characters):

While this promo features a quick look at the Marjorie Dawes/Rosie O'Donnell sketch:

Like "The Life and Times of Tim", the show premieres September 28th, with a preview special on September 8th, at 11:30 PM.

9/8/08 (Mo.) 11:30 PM HBO (#100) THEY'RE COMING! A SNEAK PREVIEW OF LITTLE BRITAIN USA

Looks like David Schwimmer did some directing for this series, and Michael Patrick Jann is also listed as an executive producer/director.

Little Britain star Matt Lucas is working on a film that will see him and David Walliams play multiple characters, he has told BBC News.

"We've got an idea that excites us that we hope will appeal to audiences in lots of different countries," he said.

"The two of us will play five or six characters that will go around together, so it'll be technically very challenging," he added.

The movie is being developed with US studio Dreamworks.

"It's a story we created with a writer called Will Davies and he's written a script," Lucas said.

"We looked at people like Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy and how they appear as lots of different characters."

"And as our audience on TV are used to seeing us playing different characters, we thought it would be interesting to make a movie where we all play lots of characters and have scenes where they all interact.

When asked if he had come up with a film title yet, Lucas said: "We have, but I'm not telling you!

"The film has not been green-lit yet so it would be foolish to say the name of it," he added.

The movie will be produced by Ben Stiller's production company, Red Hour, which made current box office hit, Tropic Thunder.

Lucas also said he was "very excited" to be playing the roles of Tweedledum and Tweedledee in Tim Burton's forthcoming Alice in Wonderland.

"I go out in early October to Los Angeles to film," he said.

"I think a lot of the work is going to be green screen but I've seen some set designs and what the characters are going to look like and they look absolutely extraordinary.

"I pinch myself when I think I'm going to be playing a part in a Disney movie directed by Tim Burton starring Johnny Depp - I can't quite believe it's going to be happening."

Filming for Alice in Wonderland has already begun in Plymouth, with the movie due to be released in 2010.

I caught most of the first episode the other night and it was dreadful. How different is it from the UK version?

    Re: Little Britain USA

Well, it was better than the (mostly awful) third series, but not as good as the first and second series of the British version. Along the way, they've degenerated from being a show with funny characters to being mostly a show that is just trying to be "shocking" as much as possible.
There are still traces of the old show in there. The astronaut who is bitter about being the eighth man on the moon is not a bad idea, but as with everything on this show, they'll just run it into the ground through repetition. The Fat Fighters sketch was pretty funny, and I will give Rosie O'Donnell some credit for agreeing to do it.
Way, way too much penis-related humor though. The bodybuilders...ugh.

In the radio series that the show originated from, they did a sketch about a witch dealing with the contractors who are building a house for her out of candy. I always think about this sketch, because it stands out in my mind as something they'd never do today, because they're so interested in being as lowbrow as possible now.

For the most part, I found it shrill and catchphrase heavy, but I liked the sketch with the old couple where the man was describing everything he did.

    Re: Little Britain USA

i watched a few sketches, didn't like it much. What everyone said is true, kind of lowest-common denominator. It seemed like the point of each sketch was stuff that Europeans would "know" about Americans without having visited the country, we're fat, we like guns, and so on. Was there any reason to come here to shoot them? I suppose we have a lot of dumb humor about foreigners too.

I thought the first ep was alright, but after seeing the second I remember why I got sick of this show after the first ep of the third series.

Matt Walsh makes an appearance in this week's episode....I can't really say his sketch was a highlight, however...

    Re: Little Britain USA

I'm not totally digging the USA version of Little Britain. I feel as though they're trying to throw in too many American stereotypes that they think will appeal to a wide audience "over here". The grandmother/grandson sketch is okay, but the lady who talks to her dog is just ridiculous, as is the body builder sketch. What I'd really like to see again ( just because I love it ) is the Mr. Mann sketch where David comes in to a store, looking for something, and becomes increasingly specific and inane with his requests. Disappointed horse (with subtitles in Spanish, just in case: "Un caballo decepcionado.") I suspect some shark jumping is happening with Little Britain. They should have stopped after season two.

Could it be said that Little Britian's a rip-off of the horror-theme series League of Gentleman or do they just have the same format?

    Re: Little Britain USA

I've been very disappointed with the American version. The quality seems to go downhill with each episode.
Why are you blocking my joy?

Matt Lucas and David Walliams are celebrating as their controversial comedy Little Britain USA has been recommissioned.
The cheeky series was not universally well-received across the pond - but thankfully that hasn't affected its future.

A source told Closer magazine: “(Matt and David) are ecstatic as they really enjoyed making it.

"It’s going to be bigger and better and there are plenty of new characters in the pipeline!”

    Re: Little Britain USA

Before "Little Britain", Matt Lucas and David Walliams did a series called "Rock Profile" where they made fun of different music celebrities. Now they've done some new ones for Funny or Die UK; some of the jokes are a little UK-specific, but they're pretty enjoyable:

    Peter Andre and Jordan

    Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty

    Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

    Kerry Katona and Mark Croft

    Ronnie Wood

Cheryl Cole and Nicola Roberts (Girls Aloud)

    Re: Little Britain USA

Little Britain USA will not get a second season nod from HBO, the cablenet's co-presidents confirmed at yesterday's TCA executive session.

"Little Britain USA as that series is not coming back," said co-president Richard Plepler, following several months of speculation after the spin-off of raunchy UK sketch comedy Little Britain pulled low ratings during its first season last fall.

However, Plepler and his West Coast counterpart, Michael Lombardo, said that they planned to continue working with Little Britain's creators and stars, Matt Lucas and David Walliams. "What we are talking about, in terms of Matt and David, is coming back with some specials," said Plepler. "So yes they will be back on HBO."

He added that the specials would revolve around a new cast of characters and were provisionally slated to air at the end of 2010 or early 2011.

The future is brighter for several other HBO shows, however, including True Blood, Hung and Entourage, all of which the execs would return for another season in summer 2010.

Eastbound & Down, the second series renewal of which was announced back in April, would shoot between next spring and winter and return to HBO sometime next year, the pair confirmed. Animated comedy The Life and Times of Tim will also be back at an unspecified point next year, and drama Big Love will return in January.
