The Life and Times of Tim

Ok, this animated show was originally pitched to FOX last season; a pilot was made but the show never went to series. Now it's been picked up by HBO for 10 episodes. I don't know if any changes have been made to the original pilot, but here's the description of it that was put out by FOX:

THE LIFE & TIMES OF TIM is an animated show about a guy who just can't seem to catch a break. He's a nice, normal guy with lots going for him, but for some reason the world conspires against him. TIM (Steve Dildarian, Clio Award winner; co-creator, Budweiser "Lizards" TV campaign) is 25 years old and lives in New York City with his girlfriend AMY (MJ Otto), who's patiently putting up with Tim's antics while he gets his life in order. She has faith in him, but sometimes it's hard to remember why. The rest of Tim's world is full of rather insane characters who are usually either getting Tim into, or out of, trouble. There's DEBBIE (Bob Morrow), the multiracial prostitute who lives next door; CHUK (Cheri Oteri, "Saturday Night Live," "Shrek the Third") the Asian bartender; THE BOSS (Kurtwood Smith, "That 70s Show"), who does not have a first name; RODNEY (Matt Johnson, "Passions"), The Boss's loud assistant from Long Island who enjoys hockey and adult films, but nothing else; and finally Tim's best friend STU (Nick Kroll), who should not be giving advice to anyone, ever. From Warner Bros. Television and Werner-Gold-Miller, THE LIFE & TIMES OF TIM is created by Steve Dildarian ("Angry Unpaid Hooker") and executive-produced by Steve Dildarian, Tom Werner ("That 70s Show," "3rd Rock from the Sun," "The Cosby Show"), Jimmy Miller ("Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby," "Borat") and Mike Clements.

The show premieres on Sept. 28th but there's some kind of "sneak preview" airing on September 7th, at 12:30 AM. From the looks of these Youtube clips, the show seems kind of "Dr. Katz"-ish in style.

First episode is up on HBO On Demand. I'd heartily recommend it.

Seems like Justin Roiland could sue this show.

It looks exactly like House of Cosbys...

I thought this show was pretty good. It really does have the feel of something Soup2Nuts would do; the dialogue is very naturalistic and full of awkward pauses, like "Dr. Katz" or "Home Movies". The lead guy kind of sounds like Ray Romano.
Weirdly, if this were a live action show, I don't think I would like it as much; it would be too much like "Seinfeld", but for some reason I can tolerate that aimless style in animation more.

I enjoyed this first one but it is a little derivative and Home Movies-ey (not that that's a bad thing). The shittiest looking thing I've ever watched in HD, that's for sure. I kept thinking the receptionist guy sounded like Jon Benjamin.

    Still, I laughed.

Several weeks ago we had the heads-up that HBO's The Life & Times of Tim - The Complete 1st Season is coming to DVD on March 24th. Now the studio has made it official, confirming the street date and the $29.98 SRP cost of this title. It will be a 2-disc set running 300 minutes long, and we've got a look at the package art for you:

I love that the prostitute that Tim cheats on his girlfriend with is on the cover, and yet his girlfriend is not. this show is good.
    i don't really like having a signature.

FOX has ordered a fourth season of its hiatused comedy "'Til Death," while HBO is moving forward with a second season of its late-night animated comedy "The Life & Times of Tim."......

HBO's "Tim" has landed a second cycle. 300,000 viewers on average tuned into the show's freshman run, which concluded in November. It's not clear when the new season will roll out. Creator Steve Dildarian executive produces the series alongside Jimmy Miller, Mike Clements and Tom Werner for Media Rights Capital.

Re: The Life and Times of Tim

Earlier in the year, around the time that Little Britain USA and Summer Heights High came out on DVD, The Life and Times of Tim Season 1 was also supposed to come out, but it never did. I had started to lose hope that this was ever going to be released, but according to tvshowsondvd.com, it's going to be coming out February 9, 2010.

I guess maybe they delayed it to coincide with the premiere of Season 2 (LB USA isn't getting a second season, and neither is SHH).

Re: The Life and Times of Tim

Is anyone still watching this show? The reason I ask is because they seem to be using a lot of AST-type people as voice talent this season. Andy Daly seems to be in almost every episode, and the last episode had Jon Daly and Brett Gelman and Eddie Pepitone in it. Not to mention Nick Kroll has a regular role as Tim's friend Stu.
I think the show's really funny; in fact, it's generally the best thing on Friday nights on HBO (I've stopped watching the Ricky Gervais show, and Funny or Die Presents is kind of hit and miss).
Even if you watched the show a few times and didn't like it, try to catch the most recent episode with Jessica St. Clair as the pharmaceutical rep, I think you'll enjoy it.

I watched the first couple episodes of this season and I've been a little disappointed. I thought the first season was perfect. I'm planning on watching the rest at some point though.

Season 2 is really great, Andy Daly has essentially become a steady part of the cast, usually playing random (hilarious) characters.

Im surprised there has been such little talk about it, its one of the best shows on TV at the moment
