    Kyle Kinane: Whiskey Icarus

There's no press release for this yet but it's scheduled to air on Comedy Central on November 24th. Here's some information about it I found online:

Shot at The Fillmore in San Francisco, KYLE KINANE: WHISKEY ICARUS is an all-new one-hour special from a journeyman storyteller. KYLE KINANE: WHISKEY ICARUS will air on Nov. 24th at 11 PM EST.

Tune in as Kinane shares tales of an airline passenger who travels with pancakes in a bag, a wallet-emptying drunken cab ride to Wendy's and the day he spent laughing at headstones. Kinane's introspective exploration dissects the limits of personal tolerance, wisdom gained versus knowledge learned, and a defense of spiritual fence-sitting. Oh, and pizza and hot dogs, of course.

Kinane has been featured in comedy festivals across the US, Canada, and England. He has performed in the Leicester, Vancouver, Washington DC, Portland, Just For Laughs/Chicago, and the USCAF/Aspen comedy festivals, and his nights are now occupied with performances at popular venues such as the Upright Citizens Brigade theatre in Los Angeles and the national chain of Improv Comedy Clubs. He has been on the TV via LAST CALL WITH Carson Daly, THE VERY FUNNY SHOW on TBS, THE WORLD STANDS UP on the BBC and the Judd Apatow production "FUNNY PEOPLE." He is a regular opener for headliners such as Patton Oswalt and Brian Posehn.

This is the best special of 2012.

I'm typing that now so I can just quote myself in November.

I saw him a few months back at the DC Improv and it seems I caught a bunch of stuff in this special. It was very hilarious, of course, and I'm excited to see him on TV.

    edit: semantics.

Saw him Sunday night and he rocked it in front of a small intimate but packed room. He hung out afterwards before continuing his road trip. Cool laid back Cat.

    WOW

The gravestone joke at the end was so good. Especially his impression as a passerby. One of my favorite specials of the year.

I wonder how the special compares to the album. Because I want to buy the album but I don't want to sit and watch something. THIS IS MY STRUGGLE

So good. That pancake story was brilliant. Hopefully this gets a longer DVD release.

I can't remember the last time I laughed out loud by myself to a comedy special, but I did so several times watching this. Something about his style of telling stories, rather than jokes, really lends itself to very big payoffs. The fact that he's really fucking funny also helps in this regard ...

    Re: Kyle Kinane: Whiskey Icarus

I like how Kyle has a burly, guy from Chicago look and delivery, but then he will slip in little things in there to show he is more sophisticated and cultured than he looks. Like the way he randomly referenced Aha's "Take On Me" video in his discussion of how he was "banging into things" as he was heading back to his airplane seat. That was Patton Oswalt-esque, but because you don't expect it from a guy who looks like Kinane it makes it even funnier.

    Re: Kyle Kinane: Whiskey Icarus

The interplay between Kyle Kinane the character and Kyle Kinane the writer is what makes Whiskey Icarus such a compelling listen. It’s full of surprising moments that feel natural, the ramblings of an eccentric who has far more control over the situation than he lets on. Kinane’s lack of self-control is the centerpiece of many of his stories, whether he’s getting drunk on an airplane, making a sad meal of 7-Eleven cheeseburger dogs, or pondering whether a Twizzler would fit in his butthole; but he’s extremely savvy in how he portrays these moments, manipulating and stacking them for maximum impact when the punchline falls, turning what could be a one-note character into a power chord.

This has to be the best special of 2012, right?

I dunno, I prefer Laboring Under Delusions.

And as I much I liked Whiskey Icarus, I think I prefer his Comedy Central Presents.
