I just won a stand-up competition
Hey guys, not sure if this is worth it's own thread but I'll try to make it not dumb.
Last night I won the 2008 Philly's Phunniest competition at Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia. It was really fun, and I had a great time and now I might actually start getting paid to do stand-up, which is amazing.
So I wanted to thank AST as a whole for basically teaching me about good comedy. I found this site just over 2 years ago when I was first contemplating doing stand-up. I burned through all the interviews on the site (which, sadly, probably got lost) and started trying to learn as much as I could. This site, more than anything else, has introduced me to comedians and tv shows and movies that have become the foundation of what I love in comedy. And of course I love that people discuss not only that something's funny, but why something's funny.
Also, when I moved to a new city last year and didn't know anybody, this site gave me a connection to a group of people who loved the same things I do. I didn't get any Christmas presents from my college friends, but I got one from an ASTer (heather!), and it was a great feeling.
So thanks to Matt and AST for being awesome and also for letting me brag a little. I will be uploading the video of my set hopefully today, I'll try to post it on here.
