I know I'm late to the party but these last episodes really are amazing. I hope more people see them, at some point.

I tend to disagree that the trend the show took this season, into gothic horror in the style of The League of Gentlemen's local shop for local people, was a good or wise choice. I found the egg themes to be so beyond the cringe that I removed my Tivo subscription and don't plan to go back. When a writer modifies beloved characters, giving them a different backstory, shedding light on their previous actions by providing new information meant for us to go "aha" to they take a risk. And not every risk pans out. You might get a Lost Season 2 or you might get a disco album. And seeing Clay Puppington crying and beholden to Miss Censordoll isn't in character with previous seasons, nor is it entertaining. I don't want to see what happens next. I don't want to go on a ride through the gutter looking for a final payoff because I don't really want to be in the gutter at all.

You know, I grew up enjoying music written in 1964, 1965, 1966 and 25 year olds telling me that the Beatles never "really" got good until they morphed from writing incredibly tight and concise pop songs for a live audience and meandered through their later studio material. Yet I knew in my heart that a really tight 3 minute song really communicated something and entertained far more than something that was meant for the artist stretching their wings. I think it's fair to say that the original characterizations had a sort of purity of pleasant and happy satire that this season pushed over the edge. I understand what the egg themes are satirizing, I could even be reading more into the political satire than is there, I just tuned in for Orel's unique moral misunderstandings not ever seen before, not something so reminiscent of existing David Lynch material.

Cool! I'm glad somebody liked those first seasons!

I don't want that to sound sarcastic, either. I think season one was special it it's own way and am very proud of it. I agree, I could have gone in that direction a little longer, but I get bored fast.

I think with the idea of "keeping in character" I personally believe the facade most of these characters put up makes for very ripe characters underneath, but I do respect your opinion. Maybe you're right. I don't know. I just instinctively wrote and guided the season. Didn't think too much about it.

    I'm not so smart.

Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don't.

Fortunately, in this world, you often get a choice. I personally can appreciate the Beatles doing "I Saw Her Standing There" one day, and "Golden Slumbers" the next, or anything in-between, depending on the mood I'm in. My primary concern with Moral Orel was that it was going to be too much of a weak parody of Davey and Goliath. When it wasn't, I was happy. I don't dig weak parodies. And when it later evolved into something more adult, I appreciated that, too. I like the juxtaposition of cute cartoon characters and real existential angst.

Maybe it's because as I grow older, the world seems much more David Lynch-y. I don't know.

    Dino,

I'm late to the party (thread) but I wanted to say that I've loved every second of "Moral Orel" and am sincerely sorry to see it go. I am especially fond of the episode "Waste" where Orel drinks urine to avoid being wasteful.

It's too bad that even adult swim can't be an outlet for creativity like this. Maybe you can keep it going online? Either way, in light of the holiday season, I am thankful for being able to watch this show while it was on air.

I will now watch all of the links provided herein.

Thanks everyone. I enjoy all the input and never get offended if it's not a show for someone and they voice their opinion.

It was a rare opportunity to do three seasons of this shit. I don't foresee ever again having the freedom that adult swim foolishly trusted me with. They're nice people.

Word. Don, you need to get out of your innocent comfort zone sometime.

Oh and Dino, some folks aren't happy with Clay being the Mayor and I quote:

"Horrible, horrible retcon. Jesus fucking Christ.

If Clay was mayor, why the hell have they not mentioned this beforehand? Not to mention how Clay being Mayor utterly contradicts every single tirade/rant he's spewed since the series began about hating his job as far as far as treating it like something he was forced to do. Last time I checked, holding public office is something you have to WANT as a job let alone the fact that if Clay WAS mayor, you would think he'd have the easiest job in the world, given that Clay reaks of the type of person that if given authority, would delegate it so that all of his underlings did all of the hard work and that Clay spends all of his days playing golf or finding new ways to abuse his power to benefit his family.

Fuck, it would be more realistic if Clay was the Mayor's chief of staff or some other form of underling of the mayor instead of actually being mayor. That alone would explain the whole "hate my job" running gag, as far as Clay being the unapprieciated flunky who does all of the work at city hall while the Mayor takes all of the credit.

Why couldn't Dino just use his last two episodes to rushedly run the aborted plotline about Clay's dying father moving in to live with the family? Or just do a storyline where Clay decides to run for Mayor instead of actually BEING Mayor and use that to set up the Censordoll plotline?????"

I personally don't mind, the brilliant angry monologue from the begining of Sacrifice made up for whatever was supposedly wrong.

    Laugh aloud.

This wasn't a joke I just thought of. Clay was always the mayor. I just never told anyone. It was something I wanted to do since FOX bought the SKANK series for three seconds. And I like that people are mad. I like being in trouble.

    Laugh my asshole off.

Were there any points earlier in the series that would have suggested as much? I didn't dislike the nesting episode, but it was confusing. It seemed like a bizarre tangent to go off on this late in the season. Not to say I'm expecting anything less than the bizarre on the show at this point. Just saying.

Is there a reason we have to wait a month for the finale?

The Mayor bit in NESTING wouldn't have been late in the season if the season wasn't cut short by seven episodes. I wanted ten shows prior or during the NATURE episode and ten shows after. NESTING would have been the second episode of the second half of the season.

The reason for waiting so long for HONOR is because it needs to be on close to Christmas.

Now, why I got all the other episodes out of the way so quickly was just bad instinct on my part. I wanted NESTING to fall closer to the election. ...dumb reason...

Hey Dino, are you gonna make a post describing what the other seven episodes would have been? Maybe after the finale airs?
