and why are you such a comedy nerd?
and why are you such a comedy nerd?
I got really into two things in the spring of 2001: Tenacious D and "All Your Base" photoshops. Here's how the two connect: I started posting on an ezboard for All Your Base pics, which required me to create an account (I had never used a message board before). I realized you could make your own ezboard pretty easily, and I realized that Tenacious D info was too hard to come by on the Internet, especially live dates (their "official" Sony Music site launched around that time, but the forum was terrible). So I started a Tenacious D ezboard, and named it after a lyric in the song "Special Things," since the ideal was for the site to become another "special thing" to add to their list (incidentally, the original board had a forum called "Tin Cup" that was just for people to play Electrotank mini-golf and post high scores). I posted a message on the official D board inviting people to come join aspecialthing, and it grew slowly but surely from there (for awhile it was just me and maybe a dozen other people, but by the time the D album came out in September 2001 and they started doing publicity and touring to support it, more people found the site and joined).

Patton Oswalt had a link on his old blog to his old Q&A thread here. I clicked it.
At the top of this year I was attending every week's Comedy Death Ray pretty religiously, then for whatever reason the weekly fliers stopped being released. I googled something like "death ray poster lineups" and like page 3 of the search results linked to a post in the CDR/CBB thread asking the same question.
Still kinda miss the posters.
I was looking for somewhere to talk about The State. Then I started going to CDR every week and compulsively posted recaps on here... stopped doing that, and never left.

I grew up on television sketch comedy, but had never seen Mr. Show. When I did I researched it on the internet, and found a few forums where they enjoyed Mr. Show as well. This is the place that most matched my personality.

I was looking for a unique type of Carribean soda and misspelled aspecialting. The rest is history.
What was the best concert you've been to?
"Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing."
Just kidding guys, I came here in search of a cheesemongering comedy nerd who will one day become my male bride.

It was all podcasts in 2009. Doug Loves Movies was the first. My fiancee and now wife found it quite randomly, and we became obsessed. Then I was searching for Doug Benson stuff and found out about CDRR and Never Not Funny. I subscribed and then found this board, and I was completely sucked in.
I actually wasn't really into stand up at all until this board. Loved David Cross' stuff, but other than that, didn't really know about anyone outside of movies.
Comedy nerd for life, found while doing a Tenacious D search.
