A Haunted House (Formerly Untitled Marlon Wayans Found Footage Comedy)

Haha, I hope they keep that as the title actually.

From the creators of Scary Movie comes another hilarious horror spoof, a parody of the Paranormal Activity franchise. When newlyweds Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) move into their dream house, they quickly find they’re not alone. But it’s not the house that’s haunted, but his wife that is possessed with spirits – or as Malcolm calls it – “relationship baggage.” Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghost busters to rid her of the demon, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his marriage... or his sex life for that matter.
    Also starring Cedric the Entertainer.

I like how the description gets worse as you keep reading it.

Looks like Nick Swardson and David Koechner are going to be in this as well, and it's now called "Smart Ass" apparently:

Officially the winner for the "Most Boring Title for a Spoof Movie Ever" award!

Open Road Films, in partnership with Endgame Entertainment, has acquired all U.S. distribution rights to A Haunted House, co-written by and starring Marlon Wayans, from IM Global. The film was financed and produced by IM Global's genre label Octane. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films, James D. Stern, CEO of Endgame Entertainment and Stuart Ford, CEO of IM Global.

In the Wayans family tradition of successful movies like Scary Movie 1 & 2, Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, and, most recently, Dance Flick, Marlon Wayans co-wrote the script for A Haunted House, along with Rick Alvarez, who has produced several Wayans family movies. Marlon Wayans' co-writing and acting credits include: Dance Flick, White Chicks, Little Man, Scary Movie 1 and 2; his acting credits also include G.I. Joe: Rise of The Cobra, Requiem for a Dream and the recently wrapped The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, directed by Paul Feig.

Open Road Films will release A Haunted House – which stars Marlon Wayans, Cedric The Entertainer and Essence Atkins (TBS's "Are We There Yet?") – nationwide on January 11, 2013.* Directed by Michael Tiddes, A Haunted House is produced by Rick Alvarez and Marlon Wayans. Executive producers are Stuart Ford, Deepak Nayar, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Steve Squillante and LisaBlum. A Haunted House also stars David Koechner and Nick Swardson.

In an outrageous send up of the "Paranormal Activity" movies, The Devil Inside and other "found footage" movies, A Haunted House features young couple Malcolm (Marlon Wayans) and Kisha (Essence Atkins) who have just moved in to their dream house. As they settle in, they quickly find they're not alone. But it's not the house that's haunted, it's Malcolm's girlfriend who is possessed by a demon. Malcolm hires everyone from a priest to modern day ghostbusters to rid her of this unwelcome intruder, determined not to let the evil spirit ruin his relationship... or, more importantly, his sex life.

"If you are looking to laugh uncontrollably, this movie will do it to you," stated Ortenberg. "This will be our second project with Jim Stern and the great people at Endgame and with them, IM Global, and, of course Marlon Wayans and Rick Alvarez, we have a team we are very excited about."

Stern stated, "We are delighted to be partnering with Open Road and IM Global on this fun romp. It is a perfect vehicle for our P&A fund and we are pleased to support the filmmakers in bringing this film to market."

Ford stated, "Marlon and the gang have made a riotously funny film and I'm really confident that Open Road is going to blow this out in a big way."

Wayans stated, "I'm really happy to be working with Tom Ortenberg and Open Road. They are an exciting new company who, along with Jim Stern and Endgame, have shown tremendous enthusiasm for our movie."

"Marlon and I had an incredible experience making the movie with our partners at IM Global and feel very fortunate to have Open Road and Endgame on board to release it on January 11th," stated Alvarez.

*Because when I think "haunted house movie" and "horror movie parody", I think "January 11th"

I like the title A Haunted House. That is, however, the only thing I like about this.

This movie looks like absolute garbage and I say that as someone looking forward to Scary Movie 5. David Zucker and Pat Proft, the ball is in your court.

You have to admire just how little effort the Wayans put into these things. They unabashedly do not give a shit about quality. Marlon has obviously spent more time cultivating his physique than his sense of humor, and the results are paying off huge for anyone who loves looking at Marlon Wayans' muscles and/or watching Nick Swardson act sweaty, nervous, and gay (i.e. Marlon Wayans. He is the one who enjoys these things. Oh, and the millions of people who will pay to see this and make it a big hit.)

Do you really think so? This movie comes out January 11th, traditionally the dumping ground for movies the studio has no confidence in whatsoever. If they wanted it to be a hit, shouldn't it be coming out now?

When I saw the trailer at the theaters, I thought for sure it was Scary Movie 5.

8 reviews so far and it's at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes

    Happy New Year, moviegoers!

    My favorite review:

"The homophobia that saturates [this film] is no mere joking around. It comes from a place of hate and [the filmmakers] must be held accountable."

Re: A Haunted House (Formerly Untitled Marlon Wayans Found Footage Comedy)

I laughed at this more than I thought I would. Maybe I was just in the mood to laugh, but most of the "Paranormal Activity" gags were funny to me (a sped-up video of the wife character sleepwalking and breaking into a dance routine, a bit where the camera is strapped to an oscillating fan, etc.) Most of the stuff with Cedric the Entertainer and David Koechner is pretty funny too (Cedric as a priest starts quoting scripture and launches into Samuel L. Jackson's "I will strike down upon you with great vengeance" monologue from Pulp Fiction- which leads into a discussion of "Snakes on a Plane" ("That's my favorite movie!" says a gleeful Koechner- a nice in-joke).
Andy Daly is always funny too, he has a nice role as a sleazy guy who is constantly trying to arrange a four-way with him and his wife. (Pretty timely mention of "Mandingo parties" too- I wonder if they knew about the Django Unchained scene when they shot the movie).

The "homophobia" stuff is all basically Nick Swardson's character, but since he is pretty much doing Terry from Reno 911! with his character, it's all pretty harmless stuff. Just a lot of innuendo, nothing really offensive. I could have done without the shots of his and Wayans' naked butts, but what are you going to do.

I think Scary Movie 5 is going to seem kind of redundant after this has been out, they pretty much exhausted every joke you could do about Paranormal Activity-type movies.

Only 86 minutes long too, and there's still stuff that got cut out, including the above scene.

You like the kinds of things I hate. You also saw this movie when you could have done almost anything else.
