Thread: The Gong Show

    The Gong Show

no thread on this yet or did I miss it somewhere? Anyone watch it? It has surprisingly much of the same spirit of the original. JB Smoove was about as funny as I have seen him, too bad he didn't show that same kind of energy on SNL he'd probably still be there. Attell had some great lines as is usual for him but mostly he seemed embarrassed which I couldn't tell if he was doing that for the laugh or was truly embarrassed to be part of the show. That was the one difference with the original. Chuck Barris just seemed absolutely thrilled with everything that went on. The more anarchy the better. Of course Barris was one of a kind. Hopefully Attell will develop his own style with how uncomfortable or comfortable he's going to come off.

On a show where the guests are encouraged to be outrageous Andy Dick found yet another way to cross the line. Navarro was good as the straight man in the middle. The acts were pretty decent and with the amount of delusion masquerading as talent in LA these days I think this show could have a seriously bright future. The only question: Can Attell survive in LA?

I guess Marx was right, history does repeat itself, first as tragedy, then as the Gong Show.

Then again Heracleetus said you can't skinny dip in the same river twice without getting sunburned, so who can tell anymore?

Actually, they taped the shows in LA over a period of a couple of days... attell's back safe & sound in NYC (well, except for when he's in denver this weekend)

I liked the second episode a lot more than the first. Posehn and Triumph both had a good couple of lines, and it seemed a whole lot more fun and less trainwreck than the first. Attell also seemed to be enjoying himself more this time around.

i enjoyed this episode more too, but how the hell could schrippa gong the modern le pétomane act right as the overture's final crescendo?
