Thread: Ghostbusters III

    Ghostbusters III

According to Variety, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky of the American Office have been tapped to write Ghostbusters 3. It will probably fizzle out like every other attempt, but if not, I think it's maybe the worst idea in the history of worst ideas. Aykroyd and Ramis are far from perfect, but it's always been their baby, and I think specifically Aykroyd's legitimate love for the paranormal is such a huge part of what made the original click. He also seems to not be able to go more than a year without trying to return to it in some way. Yeah, that's how he ruined Blues Brothers 2000, but at least that one died on his own terms and not because some random assholes tried their hand at it. Anyway, this new duo's Year One script hasn't been getting especially good reviews up front, but even if it's great, I wish this would just go away.

(Full disclosure: Yeah, I'm one of those staunch assholes who won't budge on the NBC vs. BBC Office issue, and yeah, my deep-seated hatred is a factor in me hating this news story.)

I am dumb. Can someone fix the title?

    EDIT: Thanks.

As far as I can tell, this is a completely separate rumor from all the CGI movie talk, which was supposedly going to be based on the same "Ghostbusters in Hell" script Aykroyd has been trying to make for years. I also wonder if there was ever a CGI movie plan at all, or if it was just confusion coming from the Wii/XBox game that reassembled all the cast. Meanwhile, that particular game is apparently in serious danger of being canceled.

    Re: Ghotsbusters III

    E Online reported:

While the project remains officially unconfirmed, the general consensus is that getting Murray to suit up after all these years will be the hard part—although the Oscar-nominated thesp deigned to contribute his Dr. Peter Venkman voice for the new Ghostbusters: The Video Game.

After helping to keep the dream alive for the past two decades, Aykroyd told a radio station last year that the idea of another Ghostbusters sequel was still alive and kicking. But...

"It will not happen as a live-action [movie], ’cause Billy [Murray] will not come on, in the live-action stage anymore for it," the veteran character actor said. "But he will voice his part, and we are looking to do it as a CGI animated project."

Let's hope that Bobby Brown isn't recruited for THIS soundtrack, he gave away the entire plot to GB II in the first verse of "On Our Own" back in '89. Spoiler alert, Bobby?

    Re: Ghostbusters III

I disagree...I think Bobby Brown should do EVERY SINGLE SOUNDTRACK, especially for kid's movies. I'd love to hear him work in a verse about smoking crack into a song on the "Shrek 4" album.

    Re: Ghostbusters III

The Ghostbusters video game on next gen systems is in the works (I think almost done actually) written by Ramis and Aykroyd with their voices as well as Murray's. Don't know if Hudson is in there or not. In the game you play a new member of the team.

This was the best way for Aykroyd to get a new installment off the ground with Murray's involvement. The last "movie rumor" I had heard years ago was that Bill would do it only if they killed his character and Aykroyd didn't want to do that.

It looks like the game’s publisher, Blizzard/Vivendi, has officially dropped the project as a result of their recent merger with Activision.

    Re: Ghostbusters III

Activision just happens to be responsible for the shitty Ghostbusters I&II games for the NES and Sega Master System so they are probably better off.

and I agree with Brasky. I still like The Office US and I love Ghostbusters, but their brands of humor are two proton beams you don't want to cross.

I was at Bumbershoot this past weekend, which was taking place at the same time as the video game convention PAX, and Seattle was crawling with nerds with Ghostbusters: The Video Game lanyards holding their convention badges.

No shit, right? I knew they were called "the Ghostbusters," but I did NOT know they were in control!

When I first heard this as a kid I was all "How can the Ghostbusters be both too hot to handle AND too cold to hold AT THE SAME TIME, that's simply preposterous." Well, it turns out they were - finding out in advance ruined the movie for me. Fuck you and your little bicycle outfit, Bobby Brown.

    Well, that's your prerogative.

    Re: Ghotsbusters III

To my normal, right-thinking brain, the concept of a Ghostbusters III seems like a terrible idea. But, to the small, ten year old version of me that lives somewhere in the back of my brain and has been waiting for this ever since a Statue of Liberty covered in pink feel-good slime walked through NYC, it's the greatest idea ever.

    Re: Ghoostbusters III

I feel like there's a good chance Ghostbusters III would be a good movie regardless of how involved the original people are in it's making. It's a franchise with a spirit so unlike any other movie that's being made lately. Compare Ghostbusters I and II to the tone of the trailer of the Ricky Gervais movie Ghosttown, and you'll see what I mean. It's just plain fun, and I think that even if it's being written by these people from the American Office, they would figure out how to capture the spirit of the first two films, adequately, at least.

    Re: Ghoostbusters III

Hopefully, they will capture the spirit of the first two movies using proton-packs and a several well placed ghost traps.

I'd like to see the Ghostbusters take on Hollywood ghosts - and then maybe John Belushi's ghost can do a cameo.
