General Louis CK thread

have we not had one since Question & Insult?

anyways, figured this was worth more than 'not worth its own thread.'

i'm crossing my fingers that convicted sex-offender, brian huskey, has some problems with the law this season.

i'm sorry if you're a member of ast/read this, brian, but i'm sure you wouldn't mind the work, either.
"This is not the Beach Boys. It can't be. Why? No beach songs! I thought it was some kind of joke. All 'Pet Sounds' offers is the opportunity to hear Brian Wilson whine for forty minutes, backed by elevator music. There's barely any Mike Love on the album at all."

    Re: General Louis CK thread

A new (23+ minute) video was just uploaded to Louis C.K.'s YouTube account with this description: "This was a set I did last night at the Comedy Cellar, mostly trying out new material. SOme of these jokes work and some very much don't. There were about 25 people in the audience. I just thought I'd throw it up here for a while."

It's pretty much exactly what the description says - and the audio is horribly out of sync; Louis is hilarious, but the bits aren't polished... but I didn't come here to say any of that.

This is what stood out to me, this line: "Here's another indefensible point...." and then Louis launches into some obscene, offensive bit... per usual. Which is a bit part of why I love what he does.

In this video from a little over 3 years ago, Louis does something similar. You can tell he's only got a template of what he's going to say and around 7-8 minutes he says, "What other terrible things to defend?".

Matt Ruby at Sandpaper Suit has a good blog entry about Louis CK and the video above.

I typically can't get behind a comic who's hyper contrarian just for the sake of it, but Louis isn't that type of comic... for one, he's hilarious - and he's not preachy. He's offensive, but it's in service of this high quality material he's CONSTANTLY churning out.

It's kind of a spectacle to see his unpolished gems in media res, no?

Well, it's hilarious when he does it in that set... I mean, if that was his actual M.O. all of the time I think it could be pretty hilarious. It's funny to defend awful things. He's just joking...

A comic who does the contrarian thing to great effect regularly is Ron Bennington on the Ron and Fez Show on SiriusXM:

...not the best example of it, but sort of along these lines. And very funny, I think.

As for the untested Louis CK stand up material... I'm so grateful he posted it. It's really fascinating to see a great comic trying out new stuff and missing the mark, and it's a cool, fairly unedited look inside his head.

On Best of Howard Stern this morning, Howard was dissecting the Jesse James Nightline interview about cheating on Sandra Bullock and being ostracized from Hollywood. Impersonating Jesse, Howard said, "I can't even get a call from Louis CK."

Is there relevance I'm missing there? Seems so odd to choose Louis out of all of show business.

What the hell? That makes zero sense to me. Perhaps Howard was just Usual Suspectsing it and had a picture of Louis nearby.

The last time I remember Howard talking about Louis was when the Louis/Nick DiPaolo fight leaked, and he thought it was hysterical. So I have no idea what he was talking about but I don't think he bears Louis any ill will?
