    Feral Audio

I understand if people have reached a point of podcast saturation, but the shows on this network are pretty awesome and I was spurred to create a separate thread after Agee mentioned he'll be joining them.

This Feels Terrible (http://feralaudio.com/category/this-...-erin-mcgathy/) and Conversations with Matt Dwyer (http://feralaudio.com/category/conve...ns-matt-dwyer/) have joined my regular listening queue. I especially like that Matt Dwyer has a wide and varied pool of guests and topics to draw on, from a female butcher talking about the benefits of whole cut butcher shops to a former member of MC5 laying out the legal carwreck of state and federal drug policy to a former Black Panther describing the night he and his wife dodged the police when they were essentially forced to leave America.

    Re: Feral Audio

    So... what the hell.

I just listened to a feral audio podcast, Duncan Trussell appearing on the Little Esther podcast and wow... I'm having trouble finding words to describe it.

The episode's revolves around them having had a one night stand and that Esther is now pregnant.

Why such a piece of audio exists is inexplicable to me.
Was it a performance piece? A publicity stunt?

    Was it real?

I've never gotten anyone pregnant (that I know of #hack), and I don't plan on having kids. Even so, I'd like to think that if I did accidentally impregnate an acquaintance I wouldn't agree to record a confrontational conversation I had with her and have her release it as a podcast. I don't understand why, if this is real, Little Esther would have wanted this released. Podcasts aren't live, right? You don't need to release them, correct?

If I was Duncan Trussell I wouldn't want it released either, because I wouldn't want the world to hear me being such a horrible person. Maybe the shock and dismay robbed him of all dignity? I don't know, he acted like a total scumbag through the whole episode. He was horribly patronizing to Esther, who, it should be said, has a hard time keeping up with him and his scattered and horrible musings on the fate that has set itself upon him. Real scumbag stuff. By the end he is convinced she is faking the whole thing. Is she? Is he cabable of acting so cruelly towards a friend, someone he just recently was willing to sleep with? Why would she release this other than as a character assassination on Trussell? Was she faking it? A masterful performance by both of them? Is the joke on me?

Again, I can appreciate that an unwanted pregnancy with someone you actively dislike (yet slept with), would be a bummer and any manner of thing would be thought and maybe some of it said. But how was this conversation recorded and released?

It's either a genuine horrible set of circumstances playing out, or a performance piece that failed. There was no winking to the camera that I heard. No laughs*. Towards the end a producer comes on asking them to finish up the show with a bang. Really? They must be kidding.

It's an hour long trainwreck, it was to me at least - maybe my skin is too thin.

You made it weird? What the fuck?

I was left thinking that this was maybe the LA Podcast scene reaching it's logical conclusion. And that the necessity of 'recording a conversation into a mic' weekly was bound to produce something this inexplicable. I don't recommend you listen to it, but I would love to hear someone else's opinion on it. It is insane.

*not 100% true - I did laugh a bit towards the end, I forget why. It was so tense that anything would have done the trick.

I don't know. It seems pretty clear to me that they're doing some kind of performance piece. I don't want to say "bit," because it seems like they're going more for real and awkward, as opposed to funny. Then again, I only listened for about 15 minutes, so maybe it gets weirder and murkier after that.

They were clearly doing a bit where Duncan was being the biggest asshole he could. He made her break many times, like when he said "you raising a kid based on that is like me running a summer camp based on Mein Kampf"

I'd hesitate to call it a bit, I'ma stick with trainwreck. Either way I don't think they succeeded.
