Even though that dude will probably never come back to read Rob's dissection of his stupid video, I'm glad he posted it. Maybe it's childish of me but I still enjoy someone verbally dismantling someone's stupid opinion or video or what have you, and this was one of the best ones I've ever read. Masterful work, good sir.
Maybe he's deconstructing/sending up break songs? I'm sure that's not actually what's going on here, but I definitely felt like if this video was done by an "AST-approved" comic, we might all be laughing.
We might be. I don't know, because that's a fantasy world. But I do think we'd at least give it a shot. Because something like this can be a sendup. Or it can be a shitty, misogynistic promotion for a website selling dumb merch.
Think about Bill Burr. If we didn't know where Bill Burr was coming from and what kind of comic he is, some of his racial stuff might seem a little bit sketchy.
With a few exceptions, I find the combination of music and comedy kind of lazy. It is a sort of foolproof way of impressing a lot of people. You're spouting off "comedic" lyrics that rhyme, while playing an instrument within a standard song structure. Little do people know coming up with an adequate comedic song is kinda simple. The song lyrics tend to go for shock value, because the juxtaposition between the words and the cutesy bubblegum pop/sincere/non-ironic melody makes it comedic gold, right? A lot of people would answer 'yes'. I think the main difference between this and Garfunkel and Oates is that if you took away the musical component altogether, the words would simply be the dumb stereotypical thoughts of some asshole.
This has been another installment of 'Yes, We Know'.
If you try to link to Rob's post in this thread in the comments section of the Youtube vid, it gets removed. So I think we can assume that Mr Hobag as at least read it, even if he isn't going to stick up for himself.
I disagree that everyone needs to see this.
I'm Ben...of Ben and Alex!
Everyone needs to see Rob and Dan Telfer's reaction posts to it though!
Sorry, forgot where I was. Thought we could have a rational conversation about something and not make it personal.
I get Bill Burr's humor. But if you had no idea who Bill Burr was, and you heard some of his racial humor isolated from his full set, it could easily be misconstrued.
I don't see why my saying that has to mean that I'm an idiot who doesn't understand irony and subtext. It's just a fucking conversation.
I'm pretty sure you made it personal when you implied that if it was from an 'AST-approved' comic, we would suddenly all love it.
Does that or does that not imply that we're basically stupid sheep that will love whatever we perceive the rest of the group to love?
