This Is The End (formerly The End of the World) (formerly The Apocalypse)

    .......Formerly not a thing.

    http://collider.com/seth-rogen-the-apocalypse/135638/

Hoping to hop on the apocalyptic bandwagon that will surely never get annoying in 2012, Sony Pictures has entered into negotiations to finance and distribute The Apocalypse, an end of days comedy marking the directorial debut of Seth Rogen. Written by Rogen and Evan Goldberg from a story by Jason Stone, the pic was inspired by a short film called Jay and Seth vs The Apocalypse. In it, Rogen and Jay Baruchel play their real life selves while they ride out the end of the world in their apartment. Since two movie stars cooped up during Armageddon clearly isn’t enough, the project has expanded to include James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson now residing in Franco’s (presumably larger?) Los Angeles apartment. We previously reported that the pic would start shooting in February, but it looks as if that will be pushed back until spring.

HeatVision reported on Sony’s interest in the project, which Rogen and company hope to further populate with star-studded cameos. A deal is expected to wrap soon with The Apocalypse budget coming in between an expected $30 to $40 million. Produced through Mandate, this will mark a reunion of sorts as Rogen and Goldberg teamed with the production company on awards contender, 50/50.

    Re: The Apocalypse

Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari is the latest big name joining Seth Rogen’s The Apocalypse. Ansari will join Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson playing themselves at a party taking place at James Franco’s house when the apocalypse strikes.

Here’s a quote from Ansari about The Apocalypse, taken from an interview with Grantland:

Aziz: I’m doing this thing in this movie, called The Apocalypse. It’s Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride — and all those guys.

Daniel: Is Judd Apatow directing it?

Aziz: No, Seth [Rogen] and Evan [Goldberg, Rogen's longtime writing partner] are directing it. And it’s basically all of us playing ourselves. Me, McBride, Jonah, Seth — everyone’s playing themselves, and the bit is James Franco’s having a party at his house, and the apocalypse starts happening.

Daniel: Ha. I’ll see that. Sounds great.

Aziz: Yeah, that’s shooting in New Orleans.
Rogen will co-direct the film with his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg, beginning this month in New Orleans. Sony Pictures currently has the film lined up as a summer tentpole for next year, opening on June 14th, 2013.

Ansari, meanwhile, has several other films in development including three with Judd Apatow, in addition to another project with McBride. However, none are scheduled to start production anytime soon.

Ansari describes the long process from development to production:

I’m also developing a few movies. Developing movies is so slow, though. I do these interviews where I mention what I’m doing and people are like, “Oh — are you shooting that next week?” And I’m like, “No, man — movie stuff is super-slow. Bridesmaids took five years, Pineapple Express took, like, seven years …
Aziz's most recent film role was in last summer’s underwhelming "30 Minutes or Less" with Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride. He previously appeared alongside Seth Rogen in "Funny People" and "Observe and Report", in addition to a brief cameo with Jonah Hill in "Get Him to the Greek".

    Also this:

On the heels of Franco's slip that singer-actress Rihanna has a "a little part" in the movie, THR reports that Emma Watson, Jason Segel and David Krumholtz will also appear as themselves in the movie, though the extent of their cameos is unknown.

    Variety adds this:

... and Michael Cera is also circling the project, provided his schedule can accomodate the production. Cera is currently prepping to reprise his breakout role as George-Michael Bluth in Netflix's "Arrested Development."

Guess this movie is now called "The End of the World".

"Already announced guests include: Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson, Aziz Ansari, Emma Watson, Jason Segel, David Krumholtz, and Seth Rogen (who is also co-writing the film and directing). Paparazzi photos have confirmed that Paul Rudd, Mindy Kaling, Michael Cera, and Rihanna will also be partying up."

So, 2013 will see the release of Rogen/Goldberg's The End of the World AND Pegg/Wright's The World's End? That seems... confusing.

This movie has been through a ridiculous amount of titles. Now it's called "This Is The End" and here's the trailer.

    And here's a poster:

This looks surprisingly good. The fact that everyone is playing themselves in this is hilarious, as is that Jason Segel, David Krumholtz and Michael Cera apparently die early on in the movie.

Looks good to me too, but then so did the trailer for Your Highness.

I'm still terrified to watch Your Highness, even though the trailer was one of the best trailers I have ever seen. This trailer may also be as good as it gets. We must learn to live with these hard truths.

Theoretically it sounds fantastic, but the trailer didn't make me laugh as much as I hoped. Seems like the punchlines are just someone saying fuck or making a dick joke. Oh well, I'm sure I'll still enjoy it.

I think that's the short film that this is based on that was made back in 2007.

Well not all the punchlines are just that, clearly they're making fun of themselves and their careers like the jibe on Rogen about Green Hornet and Jonah being nominated for an Oscar.

Haha, in conjunction with April Fool's Day today they released a fake trailer for "Pineapple Express 2" which is actually a trailer for "This is the End". Nice fake-out:

The real red-band full length trailer was released. It shows a lot, probably too much actually, including a hilarious cameo by Aziz and some of Emma Watson's role:

Pretty sure I'm the one person on earth who was most excited by the Brian Huskey cameo in the trailer. Sorry Seth Rogen and James Franco, you guys are pretty cool too, but BRIAN HUSKEY!
