Doug, I just re-watched The High Road yesterday and wanted to ask you something:
A lot of people on the show are assholes to you (blurry girl, DJ DateNight Nate and random guy in airport). So the question is: Are there a high amount of people who are assholes to you throughout the day when you're on the road (after shows etc). Do you think maybe in this case the people where playing to the camera?
And why? Why are people assholes to comedians?
they were playing to the camera. and i think it's their moment to, even if it's a ridiculous position, get their opinion heard. we spend so much time in our lives yelling at the television, and people see this as an opportunity to yell back. it's like being able to vote more than once, to make your opinion more important. these people are suddenly thrust a soap box and they take advantage of it without seeing it through. alcohol, of course, is behind the most obnoxious run-ins, which proves my point that marijuana doesn't lead to the kind of anti-social behavior brought on by booze.
(but what do i know? i'm drunk and high right now)
Hey Doug, are you going to be playing the Len Maltin game on your 9/10 show in Tucson? I don't think you played it last time you came, but that might have been pre-Doug Loves Movies. Game or not, still looking forward to the show!
yeah, audience members will get the chance to play the game against graham elwood. make a name tag that gets his attention!
I'm thinking of buying tickets to the DLM-taping at Gramercy Theatre in NYC and I see that for a $10 extra-fee you can "skip the lines and get to your seat with less hassle".
My question: Is the "fast lane voucher" necessary?

Doug, have you been to Scarecrow Video in Seattle? I ask because A) it's huge and awesome, and B) the Neptune is like half a mile away from it. You'd like it there!

Doug, I just listened to the latest episode of Comedy Film Nerds, and Graham talks a little about your experience at 311's Pow Wow Festival. He called it a "fucking disaster," and that you tried warn "them" that it would be that way (I couldn't go because I'm a teacher and it was the first week of school - not cool to miss those days.) I was just curious, who was the main person pushing for you to be there? Was a specific band member or was it management? I have been a huge fan of them for a long long time, and I am a huge fan of you and Graham, but it seems like they are way more interested in involving you in their shit than you would be in involving them in yours (understandably.) Does this seem to be the case to you, and/or to what do you attribute their huge interest in you doing all of their big events?
I have my own ideas about the answers to all of these questions, I'm just curious what you think.
Hey Doug, was just re-watching The High Road and noticed something peculiar. When you and Graham were driving on the highway and saw the truck with 3 dogs tied up on the back, one of the dog's faces and the owner's face were blurred but the 2 other dogs were front and center.
How did you get those two dogs to sign a release when the owner and that one dog wanted nothing to do with it?
live comedy before a live band can be tricky, and usually disastrous. p-nut from 311 is a fan of mine. his people approached my people about doing comedy on the 311 cruise. i was excited about the opportunity, because i've always liked that band (and cruises). but i insisted on having a separate show on the boat, instead of opening for the band. i brought graham along as my opener. we killed. twice. 311 fans loved us. it was one of the best weekends of my life. it was an extremely positive experience. since that cruise, there have been a handful of 311 fans at every show i do. so i was thrilled at the prospect of appearing at pow wow fest. 311's people wanted us to do a similar thing, appearing on an inside or side stage, doing our own show again. but i was already booked the first two nights of the fest. and we could only get to the site in florida by very late in the afternoon on the last day. so the only option really was to go on before 311 in front of 6,000+ enthusiastic 311 fans. i knew that would be a tough spot. but i figured since they liked us on the cruise, the fans might like seeing us again. but i knew just coming out in front of a crowd that big - and knowing that most of them had not been on the cruise and may not be familiar with me and graham at all - would be tough, so i suggested graham and i do 15-20 minutes together. i'm pretty sure that it would've been even worse if we performed separately, but basically it was 6,000 people screaming at us the whole time. every time one of us tried to launch into a bit, they'd scream even louder. i don't blame them, they weren't there for comedy. and i don't blame 311, they have always been cool to us. in fact, i'm looking forward to going on the next 311 cruise, and possibly even doing the next pow wow fest. and i'm looking forward to having p-nut on DOUG LOVES MOVIES again. love talking to that guy about movies, even though he thinks terence mallick is a genius.Originally Posted by BigWilly

Right as rain. It was hilarious and I never noticed it before. I kept imagining two of the dogs wanting to get their faces our there to show what a dick their owner was but that one dog suffering from Stockholme syndrome and siding with it's owner.
Just goes to show your comedy is like a child dressed for a New England fall.

Also, don't know about you Doug, but we're getting pretty psyched already for the 311 cruise in May.
