    Craig Robinson arrested

    Sad news for Daryl.

    Via the AP:

LOS ANGELES(AP) — Prosecutors have filed felony drug charges against Craig Phillip Robinson, an actor best known for his role as Darryl Philbin on NBC’s “The Office.”
According to documents released Friday, police in Culver City arrested Robinson on June 29 on suspicion of possessing MDMA, also known as ecstasy, and methamphetamine. He was released the same day after posting bail, jail records show.
Los Angeles County prosecutors charged Robinson with two felony counts of drug possession and one count of being under the influence of illegal drugs.
Robinson’s publicist declined comment Friday. The 36-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on August 21.
He is familiar to television audiences for his portrayal of Philbin, a warehouse foreman on “The Office.” He also recently appeared in the comedy film “Pineapple Express.”

I don't get it. This happened a month and a half ago, but suddenly today it's deemed news?

    Paperwork.

Sounds like the charges were just filed...and sometimes that can be the first official documentation of a criminal incident, thus making something known to the media.

Wow, I would have never pictured that guy to have "those" drugs. Maybe some weed, but damn.
This is crazy. Thanks for posting.
    I hope he'll be alright.

It's always so weird to hear that somebody you think is funny is into crazy shit like meth. Hopefully all this inspires him to get off that garbage and keep doing the good work we all know him for.

I'm amazed at this day and age that anybody even thinks trying that stuff sounds like a good idea. Bleh.

I'm guessing this is why Craig "couldn't make it" to Comic Con, as either Seth Rogen or Kevin Smith put it during a panel.

Meth is nasty shit but I find the crazy PSA-based attitude people have about it these days pretty hilarious. Half the country's 4th graders are on speed.

Well, since he had Meth in combination with X, its very possible that it was for a night or two of partying rather than a serious habit. Thats a fairly common drug combination for clubs and is something that otherwise productive adults do probably much more than you'd expect. With drug laws as ridiculous as they are felony possession could be a very small amount and Craig was just very unlucky.

I don't know if I know of anyone who does meth casually, maybe he was buying it for a friend?

(I wanted to follow Eric's post with an even more absurd excuse for him to have crank...)

    Re: Craig Robinson arrested

Lots of people do meth and other various amphetamines casually. I never have, but a lot of people do. You don't instantly become a crazy methhead from trying it once. He very well could have just had a little bit to go to a party with. He also could have a really serious problem. I'm hoping he doesn't.

    Re: Craig Robinson arrested

I was just presenting the argument that it might not be as big a deal as Drieux's post made it out to be. Drug-talk on AST is rather weird because personal experience informs peoples viewpoints so much and for drugs harder than pot/booze, I'd bet its the topic with the most diversity of opinion. A thread on the old board where coke was briefly discussed made me think that the people who find any hard drug usage to be very alarming to be the people most likely to post. I remember thinking it was a thread with a lot of judgmental scorn, but that could have been me reading into it.
I wanted to put a 'lets wait and see, this could be no biggie' opinion on the table.

I think this is rather insightful. Don't forget sex though -- people are all over the map there too.

Talk about people's assumptions differing, it reminds me ... when I was in college, early 1990s, we had a blood drive on campus, and a few days later I was at a table gabbing with some people I didn't know that well, or rather, I knew a couple of them but not the whole group. We were discussing this simple Q&A they made you fill out, "Do you have AIDS? Have you given blood in the last 6 months?" etc. Maybe 10 questions, most people would write "No" for all of them and proceed to give blood.

So this one girl says the following (a sentence I will never forget):

"Yeah, exactly! They're all, 'have you ever had sex with someone who uses intravenous drugs' . . . I mean, WHO HASN'T?"

    So yeah, YMMV.

Oh what, you expect me to believe that someone had drugs in order to take them and have a good time?
    WHAT AN ABSURD EXCUSE
DO YOU THINK I WAS BORN YESTERDAY

Imagine when you're talking about drugs that you're actually talking about sex. It's not a perfect analogy of course but I feel like it might lend perspective.

"I don't know anyone who has sex casually (because I have never had sex and I look down on anyone who does) therefore such people do not exist!"

    Re: Craig Robinson arrested

The opinion pendulum seems to have swung toward "hard drugs are fine in controlled amounts" so I'll offer an argument for argument's sake.

Whether it's addiction to drugs or sex, or gang activity, or whatever you please, a common theme is for people who are actively involved in the activity to say they have it under control then afterward, after they've "cleaned up", to admit they didn't really have it under control. [/ devil's advocate]

Anyway, this guy is a mad funny underdog. I was happy to see him get a bigger part in the Office as it went along, as well as getting that bouncer role in Knocked Up. Hope he re-groups and returns with a mad fervor.

I don't know if this has been posted on AST, but Shelley Malil, from the 40-year-old Virgin, was also recently arrested (for attempted murder).

Hey, don't be judgmental. It just sounds like a night or two of partying.
...in attack that left his former girlfriend in critical condition with 20 stab wounds...
    Fun city!!!

"He did not stop his murderous acts voluntarily but because of the heroic acts of the neighbor," Steven Carver said.
This Steven Carver guy sounds like a total buzzkill. Total snitcher. Make sure he doesn't narc you out!

Sounds like the "Criminal Injustice System" is out to kill the Apatow comedy empire! You're not my dad! Stop telling me what to do, sir!

Oh yeah, drugs. Legalizing pot. Yeah, that makes sense; I'm not against it. Coke, crack, heroin, meth, mesc? If you need to discuss how there's no such thing as casual use of that stuff, there is no discussion. Read up on the actual chemistry of the harder stuff. That last so-called "judgmental" thread from the old board had some screeds from DonTGD, me and others. And frankly, I'm old enough—I've been open minded enough for a long time—and have watched lives be destroyed to say, "No way".

Also, reading this thread is interesting. On the one hand, those who have no personal experience with addicts have no voice. But then those who do have experience are dismissed as well for being too close to the issue. Give me a break. Do you think some of us who have harder and less sympathetic current views towards addicts just have been "narcs" and "fascists" from the get go? Some of us have been open minded for years. But in the big picture, I know more folks whose lives have been destroyed or wasted/delayed from drug issues than even alcohol issues.

People don't end up on the street or in a hospital alone or dead because people are cold hearted and haven't tried. It's just at some point you just say "Fuck it, they have a death wish, I can't help..." and that's it. And that's after years and even decades of attempts at help.

    Re: Craig Robinson arrested

I'm not trying to come off as a prick, but it's been my experience that most people who start messing with harder drugs often start using them in copius amounts, to the point of that once-upon-a-time quick snort turns into vacuuming giant amounts of booger-sugar into their head as fast as possible.

Of course, if I was going to a club most of the music there would inspire me to imbibe whatever substances possible to make that awful music tolerable.

I think we can all agree that his arrest is unfortunate and that hopefully he's okay and will be back to being awesome at being funny soon.
