What's wrong with "Just Shoot Me"? I realize it's cool to make fun of everything, but I remember "Just Shoot Me" being a pretty funny show. These guys have worked on "Happy Endings" too.
It was dick-ish of them not to consult Graham Linehan when they were making the US "IT Crowd", but it doesn't mean they are novices in the comedy writing business.
"Just Shoot Me" is fine to watch while you're recovering from a hangover or jerking off or whatever, but it's not in the same universe as "Community." I don't agree with anyone who is saying that "Community" is necessarily going to be terrible, and that opinion is mostly a product of the perpetually hyperventilating hothouse environment of internet commenting anyway. But it's a different skillet of shit altogether to claim that experience writing on a show that might be the Platonic ideal of "mediocre" is proof that the show will be AT LEAST as good as it was with Harmon at the helm.
This is the post where I confess to being even more clueless than usual and admitting I was utterly oblivious to the fact that Pierce's father as portrayed in s3 clearly appears in s2's Basic Rocket Science.
Oh, and of course, admiring Dan Harmon's long-term vision for the show somehow even more than before.
Put down the gun. Maybe some people - not me, I don't think - think that Harmon hurt the show more than he helped it. That's why I said it depends on the scale you're using. Personally I don't see the point in making unequivocal fuck-laced statements like that unless you think Dan Harmon reads this board and you want to angrily compliment him. Do you "like" Mad About You and Just Shoot Me as much as you "like" Community? If not, then you should understand why people are pessimistic about the future of the show, because their appreciation for Just Shoot Me pales in comparison to their appreciation for Community. If you DO like both shows the same...then I don't know WHAT to tell you.
You guys should check out the Just Shoot Me thread. All they're talking about is how Community is finally about to get good!

Hey, at least this thread is going somewhere. I feel confident we will have figured out whether this show will still be good before the next season starts.
I never got into Community, I found it far too... too much. But I can see why people like it so much.
That being said, in a recent episode of the Writer's Panel a writer on the show, Neil Goldman, breaks down the genius/complete inefficiency of Dan Harmon.
Well, when you're remaking someone else's show, and that person is still alive, I would think it's only polite to involve the person somewhat in what you're doing. I'm not saying he should have been on set every day dictating everything that happened on the show, but at least get in contact with the man and get his input. I don't think when they did the US Office that they were like "Screw Ricky Gervais, I think we know a little something about producing a show called 'The Office'..."
I remember a lot of people were really reserving judgement when the US Office first was being talked about, too. Nobody leapt to judgement saying it wasn't going to be as good, that's for sure. *sarcasm*
