Donald Glover's really funny on the show. I wonder when they're going to give the brunette lady a character trait other than "she's not the one that the main guy likes."

Also, I wonder how long they're going to keep up the meta-jokes. They're done well, but I think they're starting to get in the way.

What do you mean about the meta-jokes? I don't even know what a meta-joke is.

I think they're trying to imply she has a crush on Donald Glover's character, but they're being really subtle about it.

This was an incredibly weak episode, after three really great ones. Seems like this show will be at the mercy of how well the character pairings work. Trudy Campbell and Abed were a surprisingly good pairing last week, and when Chevy Chase and Donald Glover were teamed up it was also hilarious. But neither Trudy & Chevy nor Abed & Donald worked very well for me this week.

The funniest part was in Chevy's song at the end when he slipped "[Trudy Campbell] believes in me" to his reimagining of Bruce Hornsby.

I liked the dynamic between Oliver and Jeong at the hearing and thought there were good spots here and there. Abed's initial "jokes" cracked me up.

I totally disagree, but maybe I'm just blinded by my love of seeing Erik Charles Nielsen on TV. I guess Pierce + Annie weren't fantastic together, but Abed + Troy? Brilliant!

erik was totally awesomely great in this past episode! i'm glad you've been able to continue your post-graduate pursuits... ON TELEVISION!
"This is not the Beach Boys. It can't be. Why? No beach songs! I thought it was some kind of joke. All 'Pet Sounds' offers is the opportunity to hear Brian Wilson whine for forty minutes, backed by elevator music. There's barely any Mike Love on the album at all."

I think if you look back at the tapes, you'll be able to see that the rape was consensual.

EDIT: Also, I personally don't mind rape, as long as it's done with some class and early 60's morals.

According to Dan Harmon's Twitter, Community was just picked up for a full season.

Was the dean the same guy who everyone thought was Moby on HIMYM? Haven't seen that episode in a while (and maybe I'm the only one here who likes HIMYM anymore. I know isos mentioned it a few times on NNF).

The Dean was played by the hilarious (Groundling) Jim Rash.

Yeah, the dean (Jim Rash) is the same guy who plays "Andrew" on Reno 911, the guy who's always getting arrested at various whorehouses. "Not Moby" on HIMYM was played by J.P. Manoux, who was also the robot guy in "Eurotrip". They do look similar, I have gotten them confused on occasion as well.

I am of the opinion that all of you claiming to enjoy this show are employing some sort of californian ass-kissery that revolves around the possibility of being invited to a party of some sort.

This show is mean-spirited and rarely funny and anyone who doesn't realize that is faking it on some sort of level.

Well I don't think I'll be getting invited to any Dan Harmon parties here in Ireland, but I really do enjoy this show.

Yes it's still finding it's feet, but it's a lot of fun and I really think I'm going to enjoy watching them on DVD when I can throw them on back to back and not have to wait a week.

And as for it's mean spiritedness, I disagree, I think that you can have a show about mean spirited people but the show itself isn't mean spirited.

Well, the good news is that I went to John Oliver's Windows 7 party last weekend, so I don't have to bullshit around anymore. From here on out you'll be hearing my unfiltered views on this piece of shit.

the show is charming and fun. It doesn't have the most laughs per minute of any show I've seen, but it's enjoyable to watch.

It's aware of itself enough to not be too ridiculous, but not so much of a comedy that everything is a joke (like It's Always Sunny, for example).

I kind of liken it to a more comedic version of Psych or Monk. Those shows are never about connecting with actual murder cases, it's just a charming show with a few laughs and a lot of smiles.

    Re: Community thread

The running theme of this show is that community college is pathetic and anyone caught dead at one has serious problems. This concept underlies 70% of the jokes. I like the cast quite a bit and I do understand why people like it... but it's fucking dick.
