Actually, I know of a lot of people that enjoy Community that also still stick with American Idol and putting the results show on at the same time could probably steal them away.

People smart enough to enjoy Community but who still watch American Idol are probably smart enough to know that the results shows are skippable (awful, in fact) and you can just look up the results online.
What's up, Mrs. Ditches?

If you guys don't think the ratings are going to go down when American Idol moves to Thursdays then you're all a bunch of loons

That logic only works if you think this show ONLY appeals to comedy snobs. I feel like it's smart enough to work for stupid people, too. Maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Anyway, haven't "idol's" ratings been declining rather steadily? And aren't they expected to get WAY worse without Simon? I don't know. I thought I'd heard that somewhere. (Howard Stern?)
Yeah, Idol's probably going to get a bump from the new judges, followed by a sharp decline. But I don't know if that can drop it far enough to take it out of contention. It really depends on whether the new crop of kids can sing.
I would say a show like Bones is much more "competition" to Community than American Idol is. Yes, Idol gets more ratings, but I'd say for the type of people that would watch Community and enjoy it, more are likely to watch Bones than Idol.
I actually don't think it'll be a big deal for Community at all, but it WILL affect The Big Bang Theory's ratings.
Idol is still very popular and has such a wide range of demographics that every show will be affected regardless of what it is.

First look at the Christmas special! I'm hoping this will be one that they will play every year from now on!
Doesn't what I assume is the Jeff Winger figure (second from left) look like the spitting image of Bill Hader?

I kinda hope The Heat Miser makes an appearance. And I hope that, when he calls himself "Mr. Hundred-and-one", they put the number "101" next to him in a way that kinda looks like "LOL". But MAYBE THAT'S JUST ME.
I kinda wish I'd had no idea this was going to be happening. Not blaming you guys, though, since I've seen it about a half-dozen other places too. The official Community group on Facebook even posted pictures of it. I guess that means they're confident enough in the episode that it's still just as awesome even if the surprise is taken out of it, though.
Yeah, that's a very good point. I dunno, I just would've liked to avoid knowing how the stop motion animated versions of the cast look until I saw the episode, without completely avoiding places on the Internet where it might be discussed.
Anyway, whatever. I hope the advertising brings in more viewers, Community could do with it.
They are selling season 1 DVDs for $12 on Amazon right now!

Audiences, critics and other comics agree: Brian Regan is one of today’s premier comedians, and they fill theatres nationwide to laugh at his sophisticated writing and physical performances. His observational humor about everyday events like shipping a package, visiting the optometrist, little league baseball, spelling bees and science projects are relatively “clean” and profanity-free, and resonate with a fanbase ranging from young tastemakers to middle-aged adults. His work has been applauded by such diverse sources as Slate, The Onion and The Wall Street Journal. The 1996 American Comedy Awards Best Club Comedian, his first release, Brian Regan Live (1997) is an iTunes Top 10 Comedy Album. In addition to his own Comedy Central, Showtime, MTV and VH1 Specials, he recently made his 20th appearance on David Letterman’s TV show, and he’s a regular on the shows of Jon Stewart, Conan O’Brien, Dennis Miller and Jay Leno.
