    Re: Broken Lizard thread

I watched "Club Dread" again yesterday and I have to say that I think it's my favorite of their movies. The way the story is set up at the beginning so that any of the characters would have motive for being the killer is really clever. Also, the movie is just jam-packed with jokes. The scene where they all try to decipher the meaning of the "Naughty Cal" song is a candidate for the "Perfect Scenes" thread, if it was available on Youtube, which it doesn't appear to be. Lines like "We were just a couple of stupid kids" and "And ever since that day, Phil Colletti became known as Machete....Phil" are pretty damn close to genius in the way they sneak up on you. Plus the songs that they wrote for Bill Paxton's character like "Pina Coladaburg" are almost pitch-perfect parodies of the drivel that Jimmy Buffett writes.

If you haven't seen the movie in a while, watch it again, you will see people like Nat Faxon and Samm "Lil' Wolverine" Levine delivering funny supporting performances (The way Levine delivers the line "What's that underwater? Oh wait, it's just my giant cock" is particularly funny). This movie is a definite candidate for most underappreciated comedies of all time.

I also just bought "Puddle Cruiser" on DVD but haven't watched it yet.

I know it is my favorite of their movies. This is probably one of the most quoted movies in my house. The "Naughty Cal" scene is damned near perfect. I'm glad someone else shares my love of this. (And I'm glad that I decided to spend that $1 at the used movie bin at Movie Stop, bringing this movie into my home forever)

so what ever happened to "Rogue Scholars"? Seemed like a neat idea having three generations of comedic actors to star as the students, faculty and administration. Sort of seems like what Akroyd wanted for Ghostbusters 3 (if that ever happens.)

Their Wikipedia page has it listed as just an idea, so apparently there's been no progress on it. Other ideas that appear to be dead:

.Ambulance Chasers, a comedy intended to tell the story of a couple of ferociously aggressive personal-injury lawyers fighting over a new client (That actually sounds pretty good)
.Nutcracker was to center on the nastiest and dirtiest linebacker in the NFL who, when he started to lose his skills, reluctantly turned to ballet to get his game back (That doesn't)
.Take My Wife, a comedy directed by Chandrasekhar, was meant to revolve around an average guy who jokingly swapped wives with a Hollywood superstar
.Moustache Riders, a western spoof co-starring Willie Nelson and Johnny Knoxville.

There's also a movie called "Freeloaders" which appears to have actually been filmed.

Freeloaders is an upcoming American ensemble comedy film directed by Dan Rosen and written by both Rosen and singer Dave Gibbs. The film is by comedy-troupe Broken Lizard and is independently financed by the group. Freeloaders stars Clifton Collins Jr., Josh Lawson, Kevin Sussman, Zoe Boyle, Nat Faxon, Warren Hutchinson, Jane Seymour, Olivia Munn, Dave Foley and Counting Crows lead singer Adam Duritz. It follows a group of friends who find their luxurious lifestyle threatened when the rock star they freeload off decides to sell his home. Filming began in 2009 and as of 2011 the film is awaiting distribution.
Filmed three years ago and it still hasn't been released?

Weird, this "Freeloaders" also wasn't written by them, just financed-by and starring them. Strange it never went straight to DVD either like "The Slammin' Salmon" did.

"Puddle Cruiser" is definitely a "first movie" kind of movie for a comedy team. It has a few funny moments but a lot of really slow stretches and it's not particularly well directed or acted. They have definitely gotten a lot better since then. Only Chandrasekhar and Heffernan show any hints of their future potential here. Steve Lemme is downright bad in it as a leading man; he has for sure gotten a lot better. The worst thing about it is that the story isn't very interesting or involving, I think they learned to construct their scripts a lot better after making it because it's just a loose collection of scenes like you would expect from a college-aged sketch comedy team.

The only thing I remember from Puddle Cruiser is Stolhanske's weirdo hippie character, the rest is just a bland blur in my mind. It definitely feels like something they filmed really hastily around their college for no money.

    Re: Broken Lizard thread

Jay Chandrasekhar, best known for working with Broken Lizard on comedies like Super Troopers and, most recently, The Babymakers, has signed on to direct Warner Bros.' Yogi Bear sequel, Deadline reports.

As announced last year, Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, two of the writers behind the original film, will be providing the screenplay.

The first Yogi Bear, released in 3D and based on the popular Hanna-Barbera cartoon character, was directed by Eric Brevig and starred Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake, Tom Cavanagh, Anna Faris and Andy Daly.
