Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
Since it was Mr. Show that brought me to AST in the first place many years ago, I think we should have a thread for updates on the guys.
Now....I don't have anything for this here first post....I just wanted to *start* a thread for once in my life... ![]() Anyone know anything about the pilot? Was it picked up? Was it officially passed on? What? |

Re: Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
Bob was a few people behind us in line getting food at awesomecon, but I couldn't think of a decent reason to bother him. He was having fun with all the tim and eric fans, it was hella sweet

Re: Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
Well, the Television Critics Association press tour was a couple weeks ago, and "David's Situation" was not mentioned at all by HBO, as far as I can tell. Which is probably a bad sign.

Re: Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
I would expect that if David's Situation gets picked up, they'd probably be shooting it in the fall and it wouldn't air until next year. "East Bound & Down" is the same way; they haven't even begun shooting on that yet. I read an interview with Adam McKay where he said the series probably won't hit the air until next summer.
The stuff that's coming up shortly on HBO comedy-wise is "Little Britain USA" and a new animated show, "The Life and Times of Tim", on September 28th. There's also going to be a new Chris Rock special on Sep. 27th. Then there's the Australian show "Summer Heights High" and a stand-up special from Ricky Gervais in November. |

Re: Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
Looks like the pilot not going was possibly Bob and David's decision.
http://www.bobanddavid.com/2008/08/w...and_david.html August 6, 2008 WILL THERE BE A BOB AND DAVID SHOW EVER AGAIN? Well, there might be. The project that David and I did for HBO a few weeks ago; "David's Situation" was in most respects a smashing success. Loads of fun, great energy, hilarious performances, solid laughter everywhere, and it was a blast to do, from the writing to the production to the performance... The actual night of the taping couldn't have been more exciting and inspiring. We had a fantastic crowd, and so many of our friends showed up to support. The show had great high points, David's stand-up monologues, Zach Galafianakis' as "Lame" and his music video, Scott and BJ doing "Predator A.M.", and Matt Besser, Eric Hoffman and Mo Collins as our "sitcom" cast... It's hard to do justice to how well it all went, and how great it was, really. Few pilots feel as in control of their voice or deliver as many laughs. HOWEVER...we (David and I) upon making the final edit and reviewing it...just lost interest in the overall concept. The show was a strange hybrid with a "sit-com" base. We actually used the actual set from "Everybody Loves Raymond". And while all the lines and the characters were funny throughout, the sitcom framework really felt like a drag on our energy and sensibility. This was fairly obvious to us and not as disappointing as it might sound because the whole experience was so goddamn great and made us feel energized to create something new that will let our voice run wild. HBO execs felt the same energy in the room. It's really crazy of us not to create something, and it's also crazy to lay a framework of any kind over our voice that slows it down. Not many people can do what David and I can do...suggest a show that is mostly free-form, chasing ideas, and have that ambiguous description make perfect sense. So we are working on it. Not sure where it will go, or how we will put it together. But it all comes from having done "David's Situation", and I do hope our fans will get a chance to see it one day. You fantastic, amazing, wondrificul comedy nerdles. |

Re: Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
When I first heard about David's Situation it occurred to me that the sitcom thing might be stifling. I had unpleasant recollections of That's My Bush, and I thought of Tompkins on NNF talking about what a pain in the ass the transitions were on Mr. Show. Reports of all the weirdness that went on at the taping made me think perhaps I was wrong to worry. Guess not.
It's pretty cool that they saw a problem and had the sack to do something about it. It's uncool that I'm gonna have to wait longer to see new Bob and David. Here's to Old Man Show in 2009. |

Re: Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
I find this kind of surprising...there hasn't been a format yet where I haven't enjoyed Bob, David, and Bob & David. Could the sitcom format really be so restrictive?
And would they really be prevented from just using it as a launching pad for whatever, like Get a Life? That was a "sitcom," but hardly traditional...it seemed more like beginning and end credits slapped around whatever Chris Elliott and the writers felt like doing that week. Ah, well. I wonder if HBO would consider running it as a special...sounds like it would help drum up interest in whatever B&D do end up doing.

Bob and David Stuff Goes Here!
Bob Odenkirk has confirmed on the Bob and David website that the HBO sitcom pilot "David's Situation" will not be going to series. Given the low success rate of pilots, this shouldn't be too surprising, but in a somewhat unique turn of events, it seems the decision to abort the series was made not by some mustache-twisting network executive, but by Bob and David themselves. After describing the pilot taping as "inspiring," Bob writes that he and David "just lost interest in the overall concept," adding that "the sitcom framework really felt like a drag on our energy and sensibility."The good news is it sounds like HBO is still interested in a new Bob and David TV show, and Bob and David are clearly still interested in doing one, albeit with fewer (if any) structural limitations. Bob concludes his post on this uplifting note: Quote:
