Hey everyone ...
I work as a media coordinator for the Pittsburgh affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. I was surprised to learn that the late, great Bill Hicks died of pancreatic cancer. This is a disease that hits close to home for me, as my mother died from pancreatic cancer, my colleagues from CMU lost Dr. Randy Pausch to pancreatic cancer, and Patrick Swayze is currently suffering from the disease.
I would venture to guess that all of you have been influenced in some way by Bill Hicks, his comedy, and his perspective. I am extremely interested in seeing whether any of you would be interested in working on some sort of benefit production to honor Bill Hicks' memory on the 15th anniversary year of his death from pancreatic cancer. I am in the process of contacting his estate in respect of his wishes, as I know the Bill Hicks Foundation for Wildlife Rehabilitation is the charity of choice. It pisses me off that pancreatic cancer takes the lives of geniuses like Hicks and legends like Swayze at such a young age.
If you are interested in working with me on an event, please email me at wjmoner@gmail.com ... I will be contacting the comedy scenesters in Pittsburgh to try to organize an event on short noticed.
Events are shaping up around the world in his honor and are scheduled to run on February 26:
