    The Babymakers

The Babymakers Red-Band Trailer by elisabith

Although this isn't strictly speaking a Broken Lizard movie, it was directed by Jay Chandrasekhar and all of the guys are in it (although only Jay and Kevin Heffernan are shown in the trailer). It was written by Gerry Swallow and Peter Gaulke, who wrote the Happy Madison movie "Strange Wilderness" (also..."Black Knight" with Martin Lawrence). Despite this, the trailer looks pretty funny. And Jay is finally playing an Indian character.

I remember first hearing about this movie a few years ago, wasn't even aware that it had actually been filmed. Broken Lizard seem to be focusing mainly on producing right now because I know they also did a movie called Freeloaders which has been sitting on the shelf for a few years and it seemed to be pretty similar to this.

This doesn't look horrible, in fact it looks better than that Slamming Salmon movie. Also Paul Schneider is basically the lead, I thought Heffernan was supposed to be the lead, definitely Schneider's a better choice.

This wasn't that bad. In the hands of another director, this script would probably have turned out awful and straight to DVD-ish, but Jay is an assured enough comedy director that has worked on so many TV shows lately that he knows how to pace a movie well and draw out every laugh possible from a script. I also found Olivia Munn tolerable for the first time ever. Only Jay and Kevin are in this, but there are also funny supporting turns by Charlie Finn ("Burger Punk" from Super Troopers), Nat Faxon, and Marc Evan Jackson. It's too bad that this couldn't have gotten a wider release, as it's funnier than a lot of bigger budgeted comedies that have come out this year.

Chandrasekar said on CBB that it has the most tasteful semen humor ever.

Though I may have missed the humor in that statement until just now.

I really want to see this, but I was worried since it was getting some crappy reviews. I'll still watch it, as I usually love things that get crappy reviews.

I'm a Munn fan. So anything she does I will give a shot.

And that friend is Louis CK?

A good example of what I'm talking about is the scene where Paul Schneider's character is at the sperm bank and he has to go into the room and produce a sample. This is a typical cliche scene that's been done a million times, and you know the volume on the TV's going to get turned up too loud and he can't get it to turn down, etc., haha. But they added an extra element of silliness by making the porno movie he watches have two women AND a horse in it, which kind of pushes it over into being a Broken Lizard type scene. There are other scenes where you can tell they added extra bits to make the scene funnier, like when Schneider starts arguing with Finn's character at the sperm bank over whether "who" or "whom" is correct, and it becomes kind of like the burger scene in Super Troopers.

Jay's character also seems like something that was probably added by the BL guys and his interactions with Nat Faxon where they talk about the Indian mafia add an additional storyline to the movie so it isn't all about sperm.
