Anyone seen the preview for Stand-Up 360? Awesome stand-up film series!

I'm a HUUUUGE stand-up comedy fan, but it's really hard to get to the clubs a lot, especially in this economy. I saw the preview for a cool movie series that's starting next week called Stand-Up 360.

There's almost 10 different versions to see and there's a ton of hilarious comedians: Caroline Rhea, Judy Gold, Erik Rivera, Godfrey, and tons more. I just pre-ordered my tickets and can not wait! Here's the link if you want to check it out...

Dude, at least TRY to be a little covert about it. Make your name "ComedyFan69" or "3Cheers4DatPhan".

Boy, the producers of this must be jerks if they're making someone with the screen name 'standup360movie' order their own tickets.

Plus, he said there's a 'ton' of hilarious comedians, and then later in the same sentence said 'tons more'. Which is it?
Hey, check me out. I'm a ghost.

I'm likely to check this movies series out because it's been recommended by one of my peers.

Who's running Internet guerilla marketing agencies these days? My grandma?

Guys, seriously.... This movie also features Geechie Guy, Paula Poundstone, Bobby "The Pitbull of Comedy" Slayton and the comedy magic of Mack King.

In this economy, how can you afford NOT to go?

Seriously, "in this economy" has become the new go to reason for people to do everything according to advertisers.

Also, I watched the preview and that loud jarhead from the last season of LCS is in it. How did this viral marketer know how much we'd like this?

So, I clicked through to watch the preview to find out who you meant by "that loud jarhead from the last season of LCS"--only to see that a very good friend of mine, Joe Larson (originally from Seattle, now living in New York), is in the first of this series of short films.

Now, I'm conflicted. I mean, I hate how they've spammed my favorite message board with this...but, in this economy, can I afford NOT to support my good friend in comedy?

pg--I assume, TimBuktu, you meant Adam Hunter...not Esther Ku. Right?--seattle

Something else to add to my Caroline Rhea collection next to the Biggest Loser Season One.

Re: Anyone seen the preview for Stand-Up 360? Awesome stand-up film series!

So, again curious despite myself, I looked up more details about this.

This isn't a short film in front of a feature, like I thought...but it's a "movie" experience in and of itself. It expects that you would pay money to see a full comedy-show length "Evening at the Improv"-style show. It saps out the one thing that is undeniable about stand-up comedy...that feeling of seeing it happen live, of being there when those variables are tossed together to see what happens...

How much would you pay to NOT see live comedy? How much would you pay to watch a New York audience watch a live comedy show and laugh at comedians when those comedians were taped? (Is it even an especially good night of comedy, or is it just whatever happened that night is what you're going to get? I'm guessing the latter.)

Well, here in Seattle...there is only one theater showing this film this Friday night--it's twenty minutes away in Bellevue (where they have a comedy club of their own--Parlor Live--...and it's on the Eastside, which has another dedicated comedy club--Laughs Comedy Spot--and it's close to a few other actual comedy clubs)...

The tickets are $15 each...which makes it MORE than a movie. Actually, there's a $1 fee per ticket for ordering the tickets--so that's $16 per ticket...plus, you STILL have to drive there, park there...you'll want to eat, but heaven help you if you try to eat movie theater food...and you can't drink alcohol if you wanted to...

Compare that to some of your other comedy options:

Laughs Comedy Spot, Kirkland: Headliner: Ian Bagg
--$10 (free parking, no drink/food minimum)

Comedy Underground Seattle: Headliner: Eddie Brill
--$15 advance/$20 at the door (street parking, no drink/food minimum)

Parlor Live, Bellevue: Headliner: Collin Moulton
--$20 side seats, $25 center seats, $30 vip suites (parking, drink minimums unknown)
(It is well known, however, they're papering the room pretty heavily to drum up business as the ticket prices are a bit steep for the area.)

Giggles Comedy Club, Seattle: Headliner: Joe Vespaziani
--$13 (street parking, +1 drink minimum)

Live Girls Theater, Seattle: People's Republic of Komedy Present: Lo-Ball
--$5 (street parking, no drink/food minimums)

I just don't think the "mystique" of New York City or the name recognition of the specific set of comedians included on this first-released film make up for losing the live aspect of comedy. I'm not sure a higher TV-Q rating for the comedians included would change my mind, either. If I want to watch stand-up comedy that isn't live...there's a ton of options for me to choose from in my own home--DVDs, various comedy channels on cable, various offerings from on-demand, tons of comedy available on-line...

I'm happy for my friend, Joe Larson...he's funny and deserves this cool opportunity...but I just can't imagine this idea actually working.

pg--...and I imagine I'll wait for this to come out on DVD...and then ask Joe for a promo copy...--seattle

Re: Anyone seen the preview for Stand-Up 360? Awesome stand-up film series!

A very good friend of mine is in it, who I think is awesome, so I'm a little biased.

I agree that $16 is a whole lotta money, especially when Eddie Brill is performing in the flesh just down the road. But I like the idea of watching a standup movie in a theatre full of people. The key, though, is *full*. If you can get a few hundred butts in the seats, it would actually be a good experience. If not, might as well stay home and watch Comedy Central.

And yeah, it's too bad they couldn't hire a publicist who knows how to market these things online properly.

To be fair to the publicist, there ain't no way AST was buying into a Caroline Rhea, Judy Gold movie, no matter how clever the marketing was.

It's not that crazy of an idea.. It worked well for The Kings of Comedy and I'm sure almost everyone here loved The Comedians of Comedy. Just because it's not live doesn't mean it can't be good. BUT... this is going to be terrible any way you cut it because they picked so many shitty comedians to be involved (except for the friends of friends from AST ).

Did anyone see Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show? I thought that looked bad, but this looks even worse than that.

The 360 part would make sense if the screen wrapped completely around the theater.
