    Re: 2012-2013 Pilot Season

    From Deadline:

After picking up five single-camera new comedy series, NBC today ordered its first multi-camera show for next season, the Jimmy Fallon-produced Guys With Kids. Written by Charlie Grandy, the Universal TV-produced Guys With Kids revolves around three 30-something guys (Jesse Bradford, Anthony Anderson, Zach Cregger) who enjoy the adventures of parenting despite the fact they haven’t grown up themselves. Grandy, Fallon and Amy Ozols executive produce with Rick Wiener and Kenny Schwartz who as executive producers/showrunners. The cast of the pilot also includes Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Tempestt Bledsoe as well as Sara Rue as a guest star. Rue in second position to another multi-camera comedy pilot, Malibu Country, which is looking good at ABC, so her role in the Fallon project may have to be recast. This is the second new series pickup at NBC today, following this morning order to drama Chicago Fire. Of the other NBC comedy pilots, Daddy’s Girls and Isabel were still in contention heading to today, while Lady Friends had been fading and the rest are dead.

Fox has made its first series pickups of the season with a trio of half-hours.

In its bid to beef up its live-action offerings, the top-rated network has ordered single-camera comedies from both 20th Century Fox TV and Universal Television. Ben & Kate, previously Ben Fox Is My Manny, and The Goodwin Games hail from the former; the Untitled Mindy Kaling comedy comes from the latter.

Ben is based on the life of writer/executive producer Dana Fox's brother, Ben. It stars Dakota Johnson as a single mother who gets an assist from her brother (The Descendants scribe Nat Faxon) who moves in with her to help raise her baby. Lucy Punch, Maggie Jones and Echo Kellum co-star in the 20th project in association with Chernin Entertainment. Fox penned the pilot and will exec produce alongside Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope. New Girl's Jake Kasdan directed the pilot.

Games comes from How I Met Your Mother scribes Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and Chris Harris and stars HIMYM guest star Becki Newton along with Scott Foley and Jake Lacy as siblings who inherit their late father's fortune -- if they agree to his terms. The HIMYM trio created the project with Newton in mind after the actress guest-starred on their long-running CBS hit, which already has been renewed for next season. The project marks Foley's return to a starring role on series television following a multiepisode turn on ABC's Grey's Anatomy; he'll also be recurring this season on HBO's True Blood. His Felicity co-star, Scott Speedman, co-stars in ABC's Shawn Ryan drama pilot The Last Resort, which has been garnering positive buzz.

Finally, The Office's Mindy Kaling stars as a young Bridget Jones-type doctor as she tries to navigate her personal and professional life in It's Messy. Kaling will depart the NBC staple to focus on writing, executive producing and starring in the comedy, a passion project for the actress. The Office's Howard Klein will executive produce alongside Kaling and her now-former co-star, BJ Novak, who served as an EP on the pilot. Ed Weeks, Chris Messina, Anna Camp, Zoe Jarmon and Dana DeLorenzo co-star, while Bill Hader, Ed Helms and Richard Schiff will guest star in the pilot. The pickup is of significance for Universal Television, which is building out its stable of producers as it looks to expand beyond its own sister network.

The Fox order comes after NBC has already picked up six comedies to series.

I think NBC using the cable model of 13 episodes will work. They will probably start the season as soon as the Olympics end. FOX will start early, too, but mainly because of the annual World Series.

FOX officially passed on "Rebounding", "El Jefe", "Prodigy Bully", "Little Brother", "Let It Go", "Like Father" and "Living Loaded". "Rebounding" and "El Jefe" are being shopped to other networks.

    Re: 2012-2013 Pilot Season

NBC is going to be the first to announce their schedule, tomorrow around 11 AM PT/2 PM ET.

To recap, comedies that have been picked up so far:

ABC- .The Family Tools (originally called Red Van Man, remake of a British series)- Stars Kyle
Bornheimer, JK Simmons, Johnny Pemberton, Leah Remini
. How to Live with Your Parents the Rest of Your Life- Sarah Chalke, Brad Garrett, Elizabeth
    Perkins, Jon Dore, Orlando Jones
    .Malibu Country- Reba McEntire
.The Neighbors- Alien show with Jami Gertz. Director Chris Koch (Workaholics, Modern Family),
Jeff Morton (Modern Family) and Aaron Kaplan (GCB, Terra Nova) executive produce this new
comedy about close encounters of the 3rd kind, in New Jersey.

These sound pretty bad except for the alien one. I wonder if that's going to go on Wednesday nights with the other "family" comedies.

    NBC- .1600 Penn
    .Animal Practice
    .Go On (Matthew Perry)
    .Guys with Kids (Multi-camera)
    .The New Normal
    .Next Caller (Dane Cook- !)
    .Save Me (Anne Heche)

FOX- . Ben & Kate (Formerly Ben Fox is My Manny)
. The Goodwin Games- From the creators of How I Met Your Mother
    . The Mindy Project

    CBS- Nothing yet

    Re: 2012-2013 Pilot Season

    CBS picked up two comedies:

FRIEND ME (CBS) - The Christopher Mintz-Plasse/Nicholas Braun-led comedy - about best pals Rob and Evan who have just moved to L.A. from Indiana to start new jobs at Groupon - has likewise been ordered to series. Ajay Sahgal and Alan Kirschenbaum penned the CBS Television Studios-based half-hour, which also stars Dan Ahdoot, Parvesh Cheena and Tim Robinson as the duo's pals from back home whom they remain in touch via video chat. Pamela Fryman helmed the pilot. (Deadline.com)

PARTNERS (CBS) - David Kohan and Max Mutchnick's multi-camera comedy about two male architects - one straight (David Krumholtz), one gay (Michael Urie) - whose relationship itself resembles a marriage has booked a series commitment at the Eye. Warner Bros. Television is behind the hour, which was directed by James Burrows. Brandon Routh, Molly Shannon, Sophia Bush and Tracy Vilar also star. (Deadline.com)

    Re: 2012-2013 Pilot Season

I have to say, this is the blandest sounding collection of shows I've ever seen. Except for the alien show on ABC, which sounds almost a little TOO goofy. I guess "Animal Practice" might be all right.

But it seems like this year the networks (especially NBC) have gotten tired of doing poorly in the ratings with their scripted shows and have decided, "Let's make all our shows as inoffensive and appealing to the widest audience possible".

I was thinking the same, most of these don't sound very exciting. Oh well, at least none of the good stuff from this season was cancelled for once.

Spotted Seth Morris in that clip for a sec too! I think they're only in the pilot though, don't think they're series regulars.

Looking at that NBC schedule, I think it would've made more sense to pair Whitney with "Guys With Kids" on Fridays, at least pair the two terrible multi-cam shows together. Community paired with Animal Practice would've seemed to make more sense, since they're both Russo Brother produced shows.

    Re: 2012-2013 Pilot Season

Better yet, they could have done:

Wednesdays: 8 PM- "Whitney" (which is where it was already)
    8:30 PM- "Guys with Kids"

    Thursdays: 8 PM- Community
    8:30- Animal Practice
    9- Office
    9:30- Parks & Rec

With 30 Rock coming back at midseason, since it's only going to be 13 eps anyway

Friday- 8 - Up All Night
8:30 - Friday Night Dinner (Since they're both shows about families, and Friday Night Dinner takes place on FRIDAY NIGHT)

    Re: 2012-2013 Pilot Season

NBC really wants people not to watch Community, don't they? Don't get me wrong, I'm jazzed it got renewed, but it BELONGS on Thursday at 8 o'clock, and now 30 Rock (which is already poorly rated) has to face off against BBT, I guess it's okay though it being their last season and all. I was also under the impression that Whiney/Chelsea both had no chance of coming back, and where's Sarah's show?!

    Re: 2012-2013 Pilot Season

I really don't know why "Whitney" was renewed, Whitney Cummings just got her own Chelsea Handler-type interview show on E!, so there's really no reason for her to have two shows. (Plus she's a producer on "Two Broke Girls")
Putting a show with a huge youth following like "Community" on Friday nights makes zero sense as well.

Actually for the anti-social nerds that watch Community, putting it on Friday night is kind of perfect for us. I mean them.
