The Hundred Proof Comedy Hour is coming to ComedySportz on Monday nights beginning September 20th. This is going to be a great show that features Chicago's best comics. We're excited to boast a phenomenal opening night lineup featuring:

Then, stay after the show for The Chaser - an open mic where one comic will be booked for the following week's Hundred Proof Comedy.

THIS CLASS WILL HAVE A MAXIMUM OF 6 PEOPLE.
Writing and performing solo comedy character scenes is a craft. Unlike
standup comedy, it's easy to do because theater audiences are much
more forgiving. Like standup comedy, it's extremely hard to do well.
If you lack killer written material for yourself, this solo comedy
class will get you going. It's also a great start to doing a solo
show. The class focuses on crafting structurally sound, multi-layered
scenes, creating better characters, being a better actor, and
performing with the confidence and discipline of a good stand-up
comic.

"This is an incredibly valuable class, it starts you in preparing for
castings, most recently show like Jamie Fox's sketch show For FOX TV,
Superblack for Comedy Central and SNL auditions all have asked for
original solo pieces. This class will help you be prepared" Matt Barbera, Playground President.

About the Instructor
-------------------------------------------------
Paul Thomas just finish a run of his solo show Comedogenic at iO.
In the past year he has also taken the show to the New York Fringe and
Hollywood Fringe. In 2009 he performed character pieces in the
inaugural Just for Laughs Chicago. His solo work also includes the
autobiographical questionable love story “Waitress Wanted,” which was
selected for Live Bait Theater's Fillet of Solo Festival in 2006. He
is a former member of the Defiant Thomas Brothers, winners of Best
Sketch Group at HBO's 2005 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and CIF Sketch
Artists of the Year. Paul is also a stand-up comedian and is a cast
member of Chicago Underground Comedy. Every Thursday he hosts Happy
Hour, a solo workshop/show at The Playground Theater. Paul, Jeff
Madden, and Cork Kangas comprise Lola Balatro, the post-grunge

PROFESSIONAL AUDITIONS FOR COMEDYSPORTZ
Fall 2010

The ComedySportz Theatre’s next round of auditions will be held 9/11-9/14. This audition is for our Professional Ensemble, Extended Company, Battle-prov, and a Fall run of Rec League. We are interested only in performers with previous improv training. Performance experience a plus.

Available Audition Times:
(Please list as many available times as possible. You are required to attend your entire time-slot. Late arrivals and early leave will not be considered. Please arrive 15 minutes early.)
1. Sat, 09/11/10 – 11a-1p
2. Sat, 09/11/10 – 1p-3p
3. Sat, 09/11/10 – 3p-5p
4. Sun, 09/12/10 – noon-2p
5. Sun, 09/12/10 – 4p-6p
6. Mon, 09/13/10 – 6p-8p
7. Mon, 09/13/10 – 8p-10p

Ensemble Callbacks:
You must be available, Tue, 09/14/10 – 7p-10p to be considered for the Ensemble.

Audition Details:
• To request an audition, email your name, email address, and telephone number to auditions@comedysportzchicago.com.
• You will receive an audition sheet to fill out, which you will need to e-mail back to auditions@comedysportzchicago.com, along with a headshot and updated resume, in order to receive a confirmed audition slot.
• The audition will consist of scenes and possibly short-form games.

Pluses:
• Professional appearance.
• Ethnic diversity.
• Day-time availability.
• Access to a car / current driver's license and insurance.
• Singing and dancing ability.

Commitment for New Ensemble Members:
(Ensemble members perform ComedySportz regularly and are given first consideration for our touring company performances, corporate workshops, and events marketing / trade show work.)
• Be able to provide electronic headshot, resume, and bio.
• Attend 8-12 sessions of "New Player Training" (schedule TBA.)
• Watch six ComedySportz shows in their first two months.
• Attend weekly Tuesday evening rehearsals.
• Submit availability for at least four home-shows per week including Saturdays at 6pm.
• Work closely with a mentor for the first six months after New Player Training.
• Accept and apply notes received from ComedySportz leadership.
• Successfully complete a review process after first three months performing.

What are the other opportunities mentioned above?
In the interests of preparing Chicago improvisers to do professional level short-form improvisation, the following programs run in repertory with the show ComedySportz.
• Battle-prov is a farm team of newer performers that are on the cusp of being ready for ComedySportz, but are believed to be best suited by time in this program. Battle-prov is a one year commitment and sometimes performers in this program are invited to sit-in for ComedySportz shows.
• Extended Company is a roster of performers that ComedySportz keeps on file to fulfill client requests for performers of a specific “type” OR in case appropriate work becomes available that Ensemble members are not available to fill.
• Rec League FALL RUN is a remounting of our popular Summer program of Rec League. This is program provides short-form performance experience to bridge the gap between classes and enrollment in a farm team.
