Also, how do people choose that they don't like a post? Not asking because I want to do so, just curious why I dont see the option. (assuming it's an admin/ moderator-only feature)

Hey gang.

Here's the thing... I have the good luck of getting a film into this year's New York Film Festival's Views from the Avant Garde sidebar, and bad luck of being currently unemployed.

Thought I'd harness the power of AST and ask if anyone knows anyone/anyplace renting rooms cheap on the short-term. Heather/loti and I are visiting September 30 - October 4 (4 nights) and hostels are a possibility but I was thinking maybe someone knew of crashpad rentals for airline pilots or road comics...

Any thoughts would be so appreciated... PM me or shoot me an idea in the thread.

Thanks!

Hey all you writers out there, I'm back at the producing helm of Pilar Alessandra's screenwriting podcast "On The Page" -- you may know her as Pat Francis's wife, but to her fans and clients she's a former studio script reader and one of the most respected script consultant/writing instructors in Los Angeles. She dispenses a lot of great writing tips on the podcast, plus she consistently gets really great guests. (This week, Bob Odenkirk talks about Del Close, SNL, Mr. Show and how playing Saul Goodman on Breaking Bad changed his perspective on writing. Two weeks ago, Paul Rust stopped by to talk about how sketch and improv led him to a career in screenwriting, and how he and Paul Reubens are approaching the task of bringing Pee-Wee Herman back to the big screen... with some help from Judd Apatow.)

After doing 150 episodes, Pilar decided to follow Never Not Funny's example and move to a premium format. So you can hear 15 minutes of every show through iTunes or the RSS feed, or you can pay $19.99 for 26 episodes and a bunch of bonus stuff (like a new PDF worksheet every week).

Read all about it and subscribe here: http://onthepagepodcast.com (You will also find full versions of all the episodes prior to 151 in the free feed and on iTunes -- check 'em out!)

I love the concept of this show, and while it started off a little bumpy, two eps in I'm hooked. It's basically Top Chef meets Bands on the Run, with food trucks of all different cuisines driving around the country and trying to make as much money in two days (per stop) as they can. There are little curve balls here and there, but the contestants are mostly left alone to sink or swim based on their ability to find a good spot to set up shop and a way to promote and stand out (oh and I guess their food has to be good, but no one really seems to be lacking in that dept). LA folk will probably recognize at least one of the trucks (Vietnamese sandwich truck Nom Nom is pretty famous), and while about half of the seven teams seem to be from SoCal, the diversity of cuisine is solid (everything from burgers to crepes).

It's on the Food Network, and the first two eps should be rearing all week. Anyone else watching?

I read the comics via the hardcover collections and I've been a huge fan for a while. I love everything zombie-related in general, so I've been really psyched for this show since I'd first heard it was happening. That trailer is damn fine.

Best place/way to purchase Photoshop?

I know that thread title sounds spammy, but is there anything more complicated and daunting than legally purchasing Photoshop? That's probably why I've never done it, but it's time to get legit, so I'm wondering if people have tips or hard-earned life lessons to impart on this front.

Here's my situation: AST Records needs Photoshop and Illustrator, but we don't need Illustrator for much and we do most of our work in Photoshop. Ryan has CS4 of both, but we're not sure if he'll be able to install a purchased upgrade to CS5 (nor are we sure that would help me -- I've been using CS(1) and have not tried to install his 'borrowed' CS4 on my computer). I feel like we could live with Illustrator CS4 as long as it's relatively compatible with PS CS5, but I don't actually know how well they'll work together.

Also: PS CS5 or CS5 Extended? Are the "Extended" features worth $300 more? They sure look cool as hell, and I'm a sucker for bells and whistles. But I don't really know all the differences between the two versions.

Most importantly: is there a place that sells this shit at any kind of discount? You know, given that it's insanely expensive? I know I'm not eligible for the teacher/student version, and the jury is out on the upgrade edition... Just wondering if there's a retailer out there that can do me a solid on price.

(PS: I don't need any of the other programs that come in any of their packages -- Web Standard, Web Premium, Design Premium, etc. Strickly PS and a side of Ill. for me.)

Certainly not an unpopular opinion.

So simple questions: How do I really get tickets to things? Like reasonably close tickets to see my favorite artists? Ticketmaster has completely fucked me over three separate times in the past few weeks setting me way in the nosebleeds and to the side. The two times today were both minutes after the "insider presale" started. I'm livid. I'm only buying "General Admission" tickets from them from now on. That is, if you all can help me figure out how to game the system like you inevitably have to.

Seriously, I've never seen Sufjan Stevens live before and he's one of my favorites. I'd like to be within 20 rows of the stage if possible and I'm willing to pay up to $100.

But then this begs the question of the best way to get rid of the shitty tickets I already have. I'm pretty sure this show will sell out, so I should be able to just find someone before the show, right? But I'll probably have to sell them at a loss.

Honestly, this is an organization that exists to keep regular folk as far as possible from their favorite artists. The only way to really do it is to go through some secondhand ticket agent. It's all a racket and I don't know how it can continue to exist unchallenged.

This post brought to you by my impotent rage.
