The above remark about Schimmel got me thinking about AST. Is AST a sort of a weird subculture, in that out of many, many comedians, only a subset gets mentioned or discussed?

When comedians outside of this subset are discussed, they seem to cause a big ripple by people dissing them and/or defending them.

I remember when discussion of Brian Regan popped up on here a while ago, with a small number of haters, and a far more overwhelming number of lovers. Okay, maybe there were no haters at all. I can't remember at this point. It doesn't hurt when Kindler, Patton, and other comics beloved here expressly show respect on the board for a comic.

I love Dennis Wolfberg, but he's dead. Okay, maybe not a lot of discussion that's going to revolve around him.

I love Jake Johansen, but he doesn't really get mentioned on the site too often, if ever. Maybe it's because he's more of a working standup, and doesn't dabble in podcasts, other projects that we can be exposed to?

How do comics join the AST pantheon? How does it work? Does the focus on certain comics stem from the tastes of the Admins, or from the origins of the board (Tenacious D, Mr. Show, right?).

I'm not saying I'm correct in what I'm saying. I'm not even sure WHAT I'm saying. I'm curious to start a discussion.

Who are some comics you love that don't generate a lot of discussion in these parts?
