Hear about an upcoming CD or music DVD release that you don't want to give its own thread? Post it here.
In today's developments, Madvillainy 2: The Box (http://www.stonesthrow.com/news/madvillain-box)
CD Madvillainy “2” The Madlib Remix. 25 tracks.
7-INCH “One Beer (Drunk Version)” Madlib's original 2004 version, lost until recently on the floor of his Bomb Shelter studio. If you saw the studio you'd understand.
CASSETTE The Madvillainy Demo Tape. 12 tracks, 36 minutes. This is the first and only official release of the infamous Madvillain demo that “leaked into cyberspace,” while the album was still in progress, as DOOM alludes to in the lyrics of “Rhinestone Cowboy.”
T-SHIRT Nominated. Best Rolled L's. Madvillain shirt.
COMIC BOOK Meanwhile... the continuation of the All Caps video, included with the CD.
THE BOX 12x13x3 inches. Wrapped in a silver like a mask. This album will only be available through our website - we just launched our own store. You know, cut out the middleman, fuck the establishment.... That type of vibe. So here we are, saying: “We’ve got something special. And we’re going to sell it to you in a big ass box full of cool ass shit that you won’t be able to get anywhere else.”
We’re manufacturing based on pre-orders. If you order it, you’re guaranteed to get one. If you decide to wait, well, you might not. These things are difficult and expensive to make. That’s why we’re selling them for a lot of money. And you’ve noticed the ship date right? They’re going to take a while to manufacture. So you’ll have to wait a little while. We’ll do everything we can to beat that ship date, but that’s a guaranteed date. If we don’t ship on September 15th, Peanut Butter Wolf will DJ at your house for you. Any day except Tuesday. The good news: pre-order by August 15, ships a month later.
The bad news: This thing is $125 plus shipping. Oof.

Aug. 18: David Byrne and Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today
From Byrne's website: (http://journal.davidbyrne.com/) In a nutshell, Brian wrote most of the music, and I composed most of the vocal melodies and lyrics, and then sang them. Other musicians play on the album too. It’s not Bush of Ghosts II: this is a record of sung songs, and the result really surprises me.
The album has its own webpage (http://everythingthathappens.com/) as well, and a song will be available for free download.
Yes.

Beck's new Gamma Ray single features a B-side of Jay Reatard covering the A-side. That's pretty much what I'm most excited about hearing right now.
Also, Polyvinyl has kind of a cool deal where you can get the new of Montreal 7" in three different colors, one for $5 or all three for $10. http://www.polyvinylrecords.com/store/index.php?id=548
I'm really enjoying the new CSS album even though the critic in me sort of recognizes that it's kind of hoaky and uninspired. It's way fun.

OH!
Breasts selftitled CD on The Static Cult Label (http://www.thestaticcultlabel.com/) just came out. This features the talents of a member of Duster/Mohinder/EIAFUAWN and some dudes from El Buzzard.
Check out their first video here: http://thesoundofbreasts.com/true_silver.asp

Brian Wilson's new one, another collaboration with Van Dyke Parks, is streaming in its entirety <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2008-08-22-brian-wilson-tracks_N.htm">here</a>. It's no Smile, but it's not shabby for a crazy old man.

I got the advance of the new TV on the Radio (no, I won't send it to you). It is pretty great on first couple listens and this is coming from someone who was fairly disappointed in the their last album. I loved and still love all of the Cookie Mountain songs live but I'm not a huge fan of the album. And I still hate the title.
I was really worried about "Dear Science" after hearing "Dancing Choose" and "Golden Age" but the album itself is not as disco, pop-rock shit as I was afraid of. I'll buy it, if you like the band I'd recommend doing the same.

I think Deerhunter's 'Microcastles' is fantastic. I highly reccomend it even if you thought Cryptograms was too much ambiance.

The aforementioned TV on the Radio album is readily available now on the Internet Black Market. Same goes for new Peter Bjorn and John, Kings of Leon, Kimya Dawson, Chad VanGaalen, Dressy Bessy, and the Residents. I'm not going to get any work done today.
There's a band called <a href="http://www.myspace.com/pharmacy">the Pharmacy</a> who had a great album called BFF a couple years ago, and they have a new one called Choose Yr Own Adventure that I've been digging a lot. Kind of hard to find, but it's worth it.

October 7, 2008: Sun Ra - "Secrets of the Sun."
This is actually fairly exciting for Sun Ra fans, as this album was considered very rare, and the CD will feature a previously-unreleased track ("Flight to Mars").

The new TV on the Radio is garnering heaps of praise, and deservedly so. This shit is hot. Their first two albums had a few songs here and there that I really liked, but Dear Science is stacked from top to bottom. It hasn't usurped my current favorite album of the year yet, but it might come close soon.

The new Raphael Saadiq is fantastic. It's an early 60's throwback soul type thing, that really early R&B where you can still hear a bit of the doo-wop in it. Shades of Sam Cooke, Four Tops, Isleys, girl groups, etc...he nails it, both the songwriting and production. Highly recommended.

Why are we not perfect? by Jesu released not too long ago.
Anyone else into this band? Super heavy post rock sound, kind of like Mogwai but with more vocals. They really do sound like a modern My Bloody Valentine at times.

I bought this today from best Buy, and holy cats is it good. One of them sounds and flows a lot like Big Boi (I don't know which, Rah Almillio maybe?), which is a little distracting, but I don't think there's anything I would change about this record.
