Get ready for an all-new, one-hour stand-up special from the hilarious Jimmy Dore! “Citizen Jimmy” world premieres Friday, August 1 at 11:00 p.m.

Orson Welles had his masterpiece and now Jimmy Dore has his! “Citizen Jimmy” is a new one-hour stand-up special from the weed-philosophizing political commentator Jimmy Dore. Join Dore as he gives the real reason the Clinton sex scandal upset the American public, describes why watching Christian talk shows is dangerous when you’re high and explains the paranoia surrounding The Gap. Plus, Dore makes Al-Qaeda look less scary — by naming a fruity vodka drink after them! It’s going to a wild hour of stand-up viewers won’t want to miss!

Dore is a writer/performer for the critically acclaimed Off Broadway hit, “The Marijuana-logues,” which is currently running at the Actor's Playhouse in New York. It was a role Jimmy first played at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in April of 2003. In addition to taping his “COMEDY CENTRAL Presents” half-hour special, Dore has appeared on many late night talk shows and performed at prestigious comedy festivals such as HBO’s Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen.

I'm assuming this is on Comedy Central. Looks like a DVD (http://www.amazon.com/Jimmy-Dore-Citizen/dp/B0017VG5XW) of it gets released August 5 as well. Odd that the DVD isn't on Comedy Central's label, though.

It is indeed a Comedy Central gig.

I'm stoked.

Yeah, sorry about that. I cut and pasted that from Comedy Central's press release site, but now I realize it doesn't actually say it anywhere in the article.

and it's a surprise to me that THE MARIJUANA-LOGUES is currently playing at the actor's playhouse - they told me it closed in 2005!

but jimmy did fill in for me in melbourne and all three roles during the new york run, and he wrote two of the monologues that are in the show.

(i'm looking forward to his special!)

You'd better be, the man personally provided about 30 decibels of laughter to your album.

(I am also really excited. I've loved Jimmy on Comedy and Everything Else, but I haven't seen a ton of his stand-up.)

Just saw the ad on Comedy Central during a repeat of his previous special. Looking forward to it!

But I have to say, I probably laugh hardest at Jimmy when he goes into his breathless laughing fits. I loved it when, on one episode of NNF, he starts his laughing spasm, and Pardo just keeps the conversation going without him, saying, deadpan, "Ya just have to let him finish."

Anyone in the Cleveland area having a viewing party? Can I sit on your couch? I don't have cable anymore and I really want to see this tonight!

Also, don't forget the eclipse is tonight! Jimmy told me this himself so we would all remember.

Loved it, but Jimmy should have thanked his audience for supporting live comedy.

You already know he hates Bush, you don't need another applause break every time he mentions it you fuckin' hippies. I grew up in the Bay Area, so I say that with nothing but love.

Jimmy Dore is awesome.

I generally tune out when comedians talk about politics. They don't offer a fresh perspective or add something new to the discussion. As someone who's interested in politics, you generally only find a simplistic representation of actually events. Snore.

But god dammit, Jimmy was funny anyway.

Netflix users rate it at 1.6 stars. I haven't seen it, but have seen Jimmy Dore live. Seems a little harsh since he's hilarious. Get to rating ASTers!

I just voted it 5 stars on Netflix. This was a great special. Although I had heard a lot of the material already on various podcasts, I still enjoyed it a lot. I also gotta say they did a great job with production, i really liked the lighting, you looked great.

(I am not gay)

(not that there's anything wrong with being gay, just sayin)

It's a little late, and many of you may already have your copy (perhaps not on BOTH formats, though!), but I've just posted our contests for Jimmy's DVD and CD.

CD: http://www.showbizmonkeys.com/contests.php?id=90

DVD: http://www.showbizmonkeys.com/contests.php?id=91

I'd love to see an AST-er win it (though I obviously can't guarantee that, being a random draw and all :P).

and while you're at it, vote for SUPER HIGH ME too. it's only got three and a half stars. wtf? it's defnitely good enough for 3.7 stars.

(3.8 even!)

I just watched the DVD and I actually loved the encore part the best. I feel like I need to back track and find a ton of Jimmy's older material. Has he had any other CDs or specials? Also why didn't I know who the fuck he was before Comedy and Everything Else? Is this my fault?

Is it just me or does the upward lilt on some of Jimmy's punchlines harken back to to old 80's comic Joe Bolster?

Jimmy has had a comedy central presents, which I think you can buy on itunes and he also has 2 other CDs out called 'It's Not Brain Surgery' and 'Really?'
