Use this thread when you are about to post a thing, but you don't want to muck up a thread with your bullshit. I'll go first!

So I wrote this out in the DARK KNIGHT thread. It's a fucking mess. You really get inside my over-explainy head:

Hey guys do not read this if the idea of somebody not loving and accepting batman will make you mad, I am not trying to do that and I am happy you like your batman superhero character:

Will I like the movie if I do not care about batman and was never excited at all about the idea of this movie or seeing this movie and immediately glazed over when people posted bulletins on myspace about how excited they were by the image of whatshisface's* face painted as the joker?

I am not trying to pretend I'm cool for not caring about this stuff (maybe I am a little bit, sorry :(), I am actually curious to see what all the fuss is about and if theres anybody else out there that doesn't care about Batman but saw this and was impressed. I wouldn't be asking this here if this movie wasn't currently THE TOP MOVIE ON IMDB AS RATED BY IT'S USERS.

*FULL DISCLOSURE: I had to think about this guy's name, and it came to me, but I want to communicate the idea that I have never seen a single movie Heath Ledger was in and would not be able to pick him out of a line up if asked. Again, I am not trying to be cool by bragging about not knowing something, but I do think it's kind of neat that I am the only person I know that really did not know who Heath Ledger was really. I would hate if that's what you thought.

Here's what I posted instead:

Will I like it

I wouldn't be asking this here if this movie wasn't currently THE TOP MOVIE ON IMDB AS RATED BY IT'S USERS.

That was WALL-E two weeks ago. It doesn't mean shit! It's definitely not a movie you would probably like. SKIP and go see Step Brothers next week!

Meanwhile, I was going to post in Please Don't Kill the Metal Thread a screen shot from Turtles In Time where you beat the Metal Turtle (Alley Cat Blues) and go "there I killed it, close thread", but I knew it wasn't worth pissing off some dangerous metal heads for a joke only few would get and fewer would see.

I saw Dark Knight on Friday and haven't posted anything about it because even though I thought it was well made and I liked it, I didn't feel like it was spectacularly good like people are saying. It just didn't connect with me on a personal, subjective level. I too didn't want to seem too cool for school, but even in going out of my way to try to believe it was really good, I couldn't feel anything more than "eh" when it was over. This might sound crazy, but I think Iron Man was actually the bestest super hero film I've ever seen so far.

Here's the advice from me: I had some second thoughts about copying and pasting Adam Hunter's blog in the Last Comic Standing thread and pretending that I had written it, but then I looked up at my "FUCK THE HATERS" poster that I made and hung over my workstation and decided to just let her rip.

There are a lot of tutorials in the net about making your own poster, so find one of those and get started and let's make this thread history.

Jixby, it's only cool to not know school stuff, like history and math. Everyone knows that pop culture is the only learning that matters. And if the line up Heath Ledger was in consisted of some zoo animals and office supplies you could definitely pick him out. The zoo animals wouldn't even be higher primates, they'd be like giraffes and capybaras.

Dear aspecialthingmessageboard,

In case anyone is confused about what opinions they should have, I thought I'd set this one straight for you. "Hard" drugs are not that alarming. If you still believe they are, instead of handing down hysterical moral judgments you should think about where those ideas came from (certain illegal drugs can be invaluable to such self-analysis). Perhaps you've held onto a bullshit sense of personal superiority you used to make yourself feel better as a youth. Perhaps you had a cousin who was a junkie and it prevented you from ever looking rationally at the subject. Perhaps you just really, really trust the government.

Or maybe you actually know what you're talking about. Maybe the notion that a bag of contraband signifies a crippling drug problem and imminent destitution (rather than what it really signifies: a fun weekend) is based on extensive personal experience, free of alarmist assumptions or selective hindsight or the assignment of your own mistakes to other people. I'm sure that's probably it.

ahaha, right, how could anyone find crack or meth "fun"? What kind of warped people would get enjoyment out of using a drug that makes you feel awesome?

You don't even know why meth should be "horrifying" because you don't actually know anything about it, other than how if you're strung out on it for several years straight your looks go to shit.

Engaging in potentially risky behavior for one's own amusement is not in any way comparable to abusing an animal. The irony is that if you'd only take some drugs you'd quickly realize how ridiculous what you've just said is

beastiality was a bad example to use, i concede that. i probably should have said auto-erotic asyphyxiation. anyway, when i said "horrifying," i meant it more in how, if one of your friends told you they did meth or masturbated while hanging themselves, depending on which friend you talked to on any given day, you would probably think/say "what the hell is wrong with you?" of course, i mean the universal "you," obviously not you specifically since apparently doing meth in your household is like pigging out on ben and jerry's for the rest of us. i have to ask, though, is that really your reaction to recreational meth/crack/any hard drug use? that that person was just trying to have a chill weekend?

August 18, 2008, 5:52 PM
My real reaction to someone having drugs is basically...hey that person has some drugs. I just don't assume either way. I don't make assumptions about the lives of strangers based on one little fact like that, because I know that it's not nearly as significant as people think it is. I take issue with people assuming the ONLY explanation for having any of the "scary" drugs is that the person is some kind of drug fiend.

The reputations of certain drugs are blown way out of proportion. Especially when you put them beside people's reactions to similar drugs that happen to be available by prescription.

I didn't post that either. I also didn't add that mocking comics for doing their own brand of comedy is kinda dickish. Some of the things that Frangela seemed to be saying didn't seem to be the typical "Oh no she di'int!" kind of jokes I'd expect. Some of it's hacky or heavy handed, but some of it seemed honest. I laughed at the "heather, megan, christy, kristy, kristen" joke.

Things I didn't post?

Nothing for the last couple of days, that's for sure. Been a boring couple of days at work, and I'm afraid it's either stare at my desk or diarrhea all over AST.

Apologies...

P.S. Why does this thread have the tags, 'Penn', 'Shit' and 'Teller'?

and isembardkingdombrunel?

Here's something I didn't post like a week ago:

People who don't have children of their own can't possibly talk about whether it's ok to smack them or not, but people who have never tried drugs know everything worth knowing about the topic

I was almost about to post this* to this person but then I didn't. Now it's here:

Probably some cracked-out Project-Runway-runoff makeup artist wanted to give Anna Faris that juicy, overdone look. It was the bangs on top of the too-dark eyebrows and weird lipgloss. Don't blame Anna. Smiley Face is amazing.

Smiley Face is not amazing. Even with all the funny people in it, it still isn't amazing. I could barley sit through that movie. But that's neither here nor there. On with the SNL talk.

*this is in reference to Anna Faris hosting SNL

Anna Faris' best performance is still May.

I'm bummed about Lucky McKee being booted from Red. He's a great director. I hope to see a new project from him go into production soon.

I don't what this thread is about anymore so I'll put this video of an old naked man being chased by cops in a moat here and ask the question "Do you think the newscaster was being purposefully sarcastic with the final line of her report?"

That is terrible. Someone should have taught them the proper use of the apostrophe.

I was about to post a 2425x3583 jpg of Bill Cosby in the titty names thread when it was deleted. I am not too forlorn over its loss.

Wouldn't have worked anyway, Ivan (huge images get automatically resized on AST).

I was counting on people wanting to view its original size to appreciate the Cos in all his beauty.
