Well, the second half of the second season hasn't aired yet, I know, but they've split up Reno 911!'s seasons a bunch of times and haven't resorted to "Vol. 1" and "Vol. 2" on the DVDs. The only show they've ever done that before with has been "Crank Yankers".
I guess the first season was only 6 episodes, so it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure it's mostly a promotional thing so they can get the DVD out in time for the October premiere of the new episodes.

Yeah, but it's mainly because they can do it. The same people who were going to buy it in the first place will buy this, and the people who would just casually buy it won't care or know the difference. Why wait and release them all together when they can literally get people to pay twice the amount they would have?

Here's something that will probably be of interest to the British comedy fans out there:
http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/4228/519sgd1omlss500en0.jpg
Alfresco
Format: Color, DVD-Video, Full Screen, Subtitled, NTSC
Language: English
Region: All Regions
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Number of discs: 2
Rating:
Studio: Acorn Media
DVD Release Date: August 26, 2008
Run Time: 315 minutes
Hilarious British sketch series that launched some of today’s top stars.
In the tradition of Monty Python’s Flying Circus and Saturday Night Live, Alfresco brought hilariously inventive comedy to British TV in the 1980s. It also introduced an entire troupe of bright young talents -- Emma Thompson, Hugh Laurie, Robbie Coltrane, Ben Elton, Stephen Fry, and others -- who went on to stardom.
Wild and wacky, Alfresco serves up social satire and delightfully off-the-wall sketches that seem as fresh and funny today as when they originally aired. The laughs fly hard and fast, and no sacred cows escape the skewer when these versatile comic actors lampoon bureaucrats, Jesus freaks, self-righteous counterculturists, and even their own show. Now, for the first time, American audiences can enjoy every episode of this British comedy landmark.
DVD SPECIAL FEATURES INCLUDE the three-episode pilot series, the story of the alternative comedy boom in 1980s Britain, and cast biographies and filmographies.

Fox Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Reno 911!: Miami – The Movie (More Busted Than Ever Unrated Cut) on 23rd September 2008 priced at $19.98 SRP. When Miami’s “real” police force is quarantined, the misfits of the Reno Sheriffs Department, in town for a cop convention, become the only hope for the citizens of South Beach. The highlight of this new edition is “The Lost Version” of the film, considered to be the true vision of how the creators/producers believe the movie should have been seen by audiences – a “mockumentary-style” 68-minute version that offers completely all-new footage from Lt. Jim Dangle and his team’s exploits in Miami. The disc also includes the unrated cut of the film that was previously released on DVD (83mins), a Digital Copy of the Unrated Cut and additional extras.

English DD5.1 Surround
French and Spanish Dolby Surround

Well, the press release says it includes "Mommentary," so even assuming that's the last episode on the DVD, the episode list should look something like:
Chambraigne
Snatch
Girl Hair
Sequel
Curling Flower Space
Table Read
Fire Ant
King Dead (!)
Kentucky Nightmare (!)
Justice Hole
Knifin' Around (!!)
Flipmode (!!!)
Sweet for Brak
Mommentary
There are only 7/8 more episodes after that, so they'll either also be included or released separately.
Exciting news.
BillBrasky
September 14, 2008, 11:01 AM
When you look at the description of it on the website, it looks like it contains everything through the Mommentary episodes, so I guess it's basically seasons 6 and 7 (http://epguides.com/SpaceGhostCoasttoCoast/).
After this, there's only one season of 7 episodes left to be released- don't know why they didn't just tack these onto this release and be done with it.
Edit: Haha, dammit. What jon said.

Maybe the last one is going to be jam-packed with extras. Lord knows Space Ghost has more original promotional material connected with it than anything I can think of, thanks to that long stretch where he was essentially Cartoon Network's mascot.
I'll also be interested to see if they try to handle Cartoon Planet DVDs. Weren't a lot of the episodes just reconstucted out of previously used bits? Did it even follow any sort of season pattern? (I looked this up before asking, I promise.)
BillBrasky
September 15, 2008, 9:12 AM
Pieced together from memory and using Wikipedia for help:
"Cartoon Planet" started off as a show that was targeted towards kids and aired on TBS. It was originally an hour long show, and in between the little Space Ghost/Zorak/Brak bits, they would show cartoons from the Turner library (Bugs Bunny, etc.) and even episodes of the original, serious "Space Ghost" cartoon.
When the show moved over to the Cartoon Network and (eventually) Adult Swim, it was reedited into 22 half-hour episodes (Wikipedia says 22, TV.com says 24). All the cartoons were edited out so that each episode was just a half hour of comedy bits and songs. So in a sense, there's really only one "season" of Cartoon Planet. Wikipedia says that "There are currently no plans for a DVD release of the series".
Oh yeah, and apparently the Volume 5 Space Ghost DVD contains everything except the last two episodes, "Dreams" (which features Triumph the Insult Comic Dog), and "Live at the Fillmore". Not sure why these two episodes are ommitted, although on some of the previous DVD sets they had to leave certain episodes off because they couldn't get clearance from the celebrities involved to release them.

A series of spoofs of Woody Allen films.

24. Season 1, Ep 24: The Warren Show

I received the NewsRadio complete series box set in the mail yesterday. I know I bought it for the content, but I have to say that the packaging is the most disappointing thing I've ever seen. Boo to that but yay because I have every episode of a show I love on DVD now.

The latest Simpsons set (11th season) is pretty bad too. When you open up the package, it folds out into a nicely-designed cardboard deal like all the other DVD sets. However, instead of having the usual plastic receptacles for each disc, the discs are just crammed into cardboard sleeves within the package. So in order to get the discs out, you have to kind of pull the cardboard sleeve open with your fingers (not too much, lest you rip the box apart entirely) and pull the discs out that way. It seems like this is just asking for the discs to get damaged and dirty too. I think maybe I might just put each of the discs into its own plastic carrying case so they don't get all beat up. I've never seen a professional DVD set with no protection for the discs at all (outside of those promotional "giveaways" that are just a disc inside a sleeve).

Mr. Mike's Mondo Video
Release Date: 1/13/2009
Categories: DVDs & DVD Box Sets
DVD $16.98 + S&H *
From the twisted genius behind Saturday Night Live’s early years... Mr. Mike’s Mondo Video is the wildly demented comedy from the mind of National Lampoon’s and Saturday Night Live’s notoriously funny writer/performer Michael O’Donoghue. And like most of O’Donoghue’s humor, it was years ahead of its time. Originally conceived in 1979 as a television special slotted for one of SNL’s hiatuses—with much of the SNL cast on board—it was summarily rejected by NBC as too outrageous for broadcast.
Track list
1 Feature Film Mr. Mike's Mondo Video
2 BONUS - Bill Murray’s eulogy for Michael O’Donoghue
3 BONUS - Mr. Mike’s Least-Loved Bedtime Tales: “The Enchanted Thermos”
4 BONUS - Mr. Mike’s Least-Loved Bedtime Tales: “The Little Train That Died”
5 BONUS - Mr. Mike’s Least-Loved Bedtime Tales: “Willy the Worm”
