Hi There,
It was suggested that I start a new GWF thread so I could
change the title card more readily. Hope this doesn't piss off/confuse
Jouster, Itslikeimsayin, Isos etc.
You can erase the old thread.
Blieden visits the studio today.

Nash,
FYI, there is another great heckler interaction on the Queens of the Stone Age live album/dvd "Over the Years and Through the Woods." At the end of the third track "Monsters in the Parasol," about 3:09 in, Josh Homme just lays into some audience member who is throwing shit at him. I think it is funnier than the clip that has been making the rounds.
Anyway, it should be easy to find. Enjoy!
Oh, and, thanks for the great (and prolific) work.

You're not allowed to start rooting for a team after they already made the finals. And now you're a big fan of the C's. Too cool to call them the Celtics. Nauseating. I've never even heard them called the C's before. Definitely never heard Ray Allen called R.A., so that joke about him being a college R.A. was literally the all time worst thing I have ever heard. Enjoying the show, though. Glad Jeff's back.

QOTSA Rants are my new thing, thanks pimpbot.
FUNNY CLOWN,
I was the biggest C's fan as a boy, so feel okay jumping on the band wagon.
And, I'm sorry, how much comedy have you written and performed in your
sad 35 years on earth so far? Oh what's that? None? Yep, that was the number
- zero. I still contend the RA bit would work. I stand behind the idea.
Funny Clown wrote a book. I read a bunch of it. It's very, very good. I am producing
a podcast so it might be hard for me to finish soon.
Would any fan like to read the book and come on the air and critique it.

I'm only 34, gramps, and only about half of those years have been sad. Also, I have written tons of comedy. I have admittedly not performed any comedy, but then neither have you. Hi-yo! Anyway, I stand behind the idea that no one calls Ray Allen "RA" and that you are what the world is coming to know as a typical Boston jerk who hates sports until a Boston team is going for the championship and all of a sudden they're superfan #1. If you name your next kid Leon Powe Nash, I will believe you are sincere.
Also, while I am slightly weirded out that you would offer to pass around my manuscript without asking me first, I guess I'm okay with the idea. For the record, I've already chalked this one up as a failure and am well along on the next one, which I predict will forever change the way humans look at written language.
Okay. Have me on the show some time. We can talk hoops. Faggot.

Finally catching up on my GWF after a week out of the office. Doesn't Blieden confess his "secret" desire to direct porn every time he's on the show? Regardless, it always makes for good listening. And the fact that Selman doesn't know how to silence his iPod clicker made me laugh really hard. He's probably my favorite guest, yet I still get a sick thrill out of him getting his comeuppance.
Sadly, I don't read anything other than periodicals these days, though I've no doubt that funnyclown's book is super kick-ass (feel free to pull that quote for the jacket).
Edited to say, how could Nash just breeze past Blieden's discussion of the Rumspringa documentary? Isn't that ultimately what Nash is looking for... his own personal Rumspringa?

Nice return with an in-studio Agee. Work is extra boring when there's no GWF on the horizon, so it was with a sigh of relief that I fired up my iTunes this morning. Nash's Nanny deserves extra kudos for her call as well. I always assumed she was unflappable, having to put up with Nash every day, but who knew she'd be so charming?

Nash,
About your experience with the Hold Steady. I saw them Friday here in San Diego. My concern was more with the crowd they drew. It was like a house of Frat boys and a lot of white girls dancing like white girls dance.
I like the Hold Steady's sound, but the amount of lemming crowd participation made me feel like I was at a Jimmy Buffet concert.

Loved the last two episodes. Jeff, I was doubting "bing bong" until the very end, but then you totally turned me around. I'm sold. Bing bong.
By the way, does anyone want to do GWF fantasy football? I'm still pissed that I never received my life sized Ben Wallace doll for my 3rd place basketball league finish, Le Jetski, but I'd put aside my anger for some more good clean GWF sports fun.

I prefer a band that attracts a crowd full of courageous and steadfast individualists
Ha!
For what it's worth, I think one of the best live shows I've ever seen was a sold-out Hold Steady show in late 2006, just as they were getting big but were still booked in small-ish venues (I think the place where I saw them can fit 200 people at most). Maybe part of it was that I hadn't heard their music before the show, but I was blown away. The energy level and the general big-ness of the sound was something I hadn't seen in a show that size in years. I get Nash's complaint about Craig Finn onstage persona, but at least his antics don't seem affected. He seems to just lose himself and, yes, look a little gay in the process.
As for the crowd, I guess they were lemming-ish in the sense that they were ridiculously enthusiastic, and they were dancing, singing, pumping their fists and spilling beer everywhere. So if by "lemming-ish" you mean "doing exactly what the audience at a great rock show should do" then I agree with Warhead Jones completely. Awesome, awesome show.
ericluxury
August 4, 2008, 10:37 PM
I agree with Embiggen on that. I like the Hold Steady. I haven't seen them play, but my audience expectations have been reduced from seeing festival shows to the point where a group of people just there to see the band and excited for that band is enough for me to think its a great audience. Ever since medium venue shows began to cost $40 (plus $13 for live nation) and big venue shows nearly double that, I can only afford to see bands I like when they play with 10 other bands. And there is always at least 10% of the people around you, no matter how close you get, that are not liking whatever band is on-stage and are willfully resisting them.
Warhead Jones
August 5, 2008, 2:54 PM
Sorry, if I hit a nerve.
2nd song in, I heard someone yell out "Sufi" or whatever that Dane Cook this is. That pulled me out of the show and I started hating everyone around me.
It just felt like there were "fins to the left and fins to the right" and that is what hell will be like for me. When a crowd is more interested in making sure to take cell phone pictures of themselves enjoying a concert rather than just enjoying a concert, it gets on my nerves.
Or maybe it's a dry heat and I'm just an old fuck.

What hits a nerve with me is when I disagree with someone or point out that they're being a jack, and they say "oh dear it looks as though I've struck a nerve". You didn't offend me personally, you said the word "lemming."
I agree with Nash that the Hold Steady dude is a fat old weirdo (how could I not) but it's not, like, his fault. I mean there's not really anything he can do about it. His vocals, which I dig, are obviously a direct result of the guy he is. Unfortunately so is the way he flails around onstage. It's not fair to say that he needs to take a sedative and act unnaturally so as to be more typically rockstarish

Neil was an awesome guest. Very funny and unassuming, my favorite type of GWF contributor. The idea of having a GWF-sponsored bachelor party at UCB is too good to pass up.
Here's a true tale from the set of "Gummo" for Nash and the other weirdos who watch Harmony Korine movies. Harmony, like me, is from a normal, middle-class family in Nashville (despite what his rep/bio would have you believe), and he shot much of "Gummo" there. A friend of mine who is a standup comic in Nashville was hired to appear in "Gummo" as one of the freaks on display. My friend is a very large gentleman and he has a very large personality, so somebody associated with the movie thought it would be funny if he played a backwoods simpleton who makes love to a sheep. Despite his objections to Harmony Korine's film career, my buddy needed the money, so he agreed to do it, then proceeded to pretend-hump that sheep with so much over-the-top insanity that it was deemed too crazy for the film and he was told it would never see the light of day. So he got paid and managed to prevent himself from showing up on YouTube years later. Win-win.
Also, the legitimate simpletons in "Gummo" were known to sit in the back of the one theater in town that showed it during the initial theatrical run and laugh loudly at themselves on screen. Rarely did actual audience members show up, so it was mostly those dudes watching home movies alone in a big theater, which I'm sure is exactly what Harmony Korine wanted to begin with.
P.S. A friend of mine clotheslined Harmony Korine when they were playing basketball together in junior high. At the time he felt bad about it, but after "Kids" came out, he decided it was among his greatest achievements.

Neil seems like a great fit for GWF, I really hope you guys can get him on the phone when he's alone. I want to hear more on-air UCB bachelor party planning. Some burlesque type strippers like the ones Mike Schmidt knows would be perfect for such an event.
Come to think of it, it'd be interesting to hear Mike Schmidt on GWF some time. A little crossover action. 40 Year Old Boy With Feelings.
Silas is the name of one of the sons on Weeds. You can't go naming your kid after a character on that show. I really like the name Leon. Leon Nash. Sounds like an awesome guy.
It also made me think of the name Lon. Nobody's named Lon anymore, you could totally bring it back. The missus can call him Lonnie while he's little of course, but then when he grows up...
I mean think about an old dude called Lon. That is a pretty sweet old dude right

This is bullshit: you know when you have nothing left in your life except seeing a good summer comedy with your bro, and then your wife goes ahead and asks you to "save the movie" for her? Hello all.
We're hoping to record this week, but I'm not sure it will happen.
I am shooting a short that has become a larger production than hoped. On other fronts,
I took out a Facebook ad today for GWF. Could you let me know if you happen to
see them. I am super curious if I am throwing $25 a day out the window.
Today's episode is fun I think, Jeff and I were not going to release it as it was post
our Joe Wagner episode and we were really just shooting the shit and decided to hit record. Sometimes I feel like these are the best episodes even though there are rough spots.
Also, giving out my email has been great. Thank you for those who have emailed us already today.
We are hoping to get Neil's Bachelor Party off the ground, and we hope that other GWF
listeners will come to it. Unfortuneately, I don't think they are getting married until next summer.
Thanks for all the support.

Great last couple of episodes I liked Wagner's Chocolate Sun Mandingo blast. I was thinking the same thing. I think Jeff mentioned he wanted the full tint too.
So is there going to be a heart to heart with Kirkman, could be intense. I'd like more female interactions Whats up with Tami Sagher? Erin Gibson is pretty cool too although I don't know about her and Nash being left alone in the basement, Jeff better sit in.

After having our cousin have Tommy John surgery after his junior year of high school, I'm going to make sure Jeff is real careful with Max's pitching arm. I personally will be monitoring his pitch count and won't think of letting him throw any breaking stuff until he's developed an effective change up. Once he's old enough, can command his fastball on both sides of the plate and has an effective change up, then he's cleared to try throwing breaking stuff.
That's the problem with kids these days, they just don't know how to throw an effective change up.

I've not always been Hammy's biggest supporter, but I gotta say that it's off-putting when you guys call him at home unaware and then A) gently berate him and B) act bored (generally Jeff's domain) when he fails to deliver on par with your professional comedian guests. Having been an active member of AST during the Hammy era, I know full well that the guy doesn't always show restraint, but it's seems kinda cruel when you initiate the contact knowing full well how things will unfold.
Short version, if I call the show and proceed to suck, then shame on me. But if you call me and I suck, then shame on you.

(FOR ALL ACCESS MEMBERS ONLY)
I nominate this for the "Lamest Idea of the Year" Feelie.
Obviously, you guys or the show don't owe non-members like me anything. But I think to change your rules in the middle of the game is kinda weak. Plus I seriously doubt you'll grow your audience going this route.

itslikeimsayin,
you've been a big supporter to us, so I don't want you to hear this email the wrong way, but if you would be so kind allow me to vent.
let me just say these are exactly the rules for the podcast, and therefore you are WAY OUT OF LINE with this post. if the old board was here you would see that i specifically posted that "some things will be all-access and some things won't."
it's also a reward for the really generous people who did give us money this year and helped pay for the costs we encrue doing the show.
because you are a good guy and have been there for us, if you don't have the 9.95 email me and i will give you a pass code. (i'm not belittling anyone who doesn' t have 9.95, i have been there and am sort of am there now) but to sit there
and say we're not going to build an audience and call us weak is a low blow.
it also angers me that you would write this because we have given you oodles, upon fucking oodles of free fucking material over three years. while you are able to sit back like a fat lion (are you fat? i don't know if you are. this is just a metaphor.) and
pick and choose and maybe listen to our show or maybe not. but then complain when we decide to reward some of the fans who were nice enough to contribute.
(how bad does hammy want to respond to this right now, and can't because he canceled his membership?)
i want you to film yourself doing 35 pushups and put it on youtube as an apology for making me feel bad. i will except nothing less. 35 is a tough number. I can do about 20, so you can take breaks in between. but if you could hit a total of 35.
watch jeff on the price is right on october 24th.
thanks,
nash

The Sterling/Selman megasode was the breeziest 3 hours of podcasting I've come across yet. Makes up for the recent paucity of episodes (Selman's words, not mine). More please.
I'm going to do 35 pushups now (in sets of 15, 10, and 15, and the last set will probably be half-assed), and then I'll set my Tivo for Jeff's showcase showdown.
Popinjay-Z fun fact! I've had two relatives appear as contestants on "The Price Is Right." Fun fact!

I agree with Nash on this one. I also don't think it's changing the rules. At least, it's not fair to assume there are rules about how much you should get for free. And honestly, as someone who did pay, I kind of appreciate getting something for my money.
Either way, great episode. I could listen to stories about Max's eerie intelligence all day long.

I need to clarify. I wasn't a contestant on The Price is Right. I went there for work reasons and the losers stuck me in the second row for a taping. I believe I am on camera a bunch looking totally like I don't want to be there, sandwiched amongst ancient people in home made t-shirts.
At one point I pass out papa john's pizza to people. So if THAT is something you'd care to see, by all means.

This is exactly what I'm looking for in television. Tivo set!
Also, I'm not much on cooking, but I would totally buy a cookbook written by Jeff and Selman. Food for thought (puns!)

October 24, 2008, 9:12 AM
Oh, hell - there he is!
For those playing at home, he's on the far right end of his row on yer TV screen.
So far, you only really see him when someone from Contestant's Row wins & comes up on stage. EXCEPT - they just had a crowd shot, & he's right up front in the shot.
And during the pizza segment Jeff mentioned above, he's mainly obscured by a big-ass Papa John's logo.
So if you Tivo'd it, you'll get your chance to see him, but it's not a constant on-camera presence type thing.

New Episode for Tuesday November 12, 2008
Holy Headshot!
Nash and Jeff return after a month's absence with the co-authors of "Holy Headshot," Patrick Borelli and Douglas Greenstein, a coffee table book featuring the most insane, hilarious and captivating headshots in the world. Listen in as the guys also chat with Robert Rex and Yenz Von Tilberg, two actors who made the book and offer their life stories as GWF virgins. One about being a gay German man dis-owned by his billionaire father; the other a rough and tumble ladies man who's already nailed down a part in in "Pirates of the Caribbean IV."
Please buy "Holy Headshot!" It makes an awesome gift. John Hodgemen, Jimmy Fallon and Human Giant all endorse it and I say it might possibly be the best book to poop too of all time.
Stay tuned for Part Two tomorrow, or maybe later today.
I had some audio issues with the second half.. (Who me? Audio issues? That's weird.)
Tonight, Holy Headshot! is doing a show at Steve Allen. I might do something in it.
Not sure yet. But Patrick has arranged a talent show for a bunch of the people in the book
and I think it's going to be very entertaining.
Also, I'll be at R-Bar Wednesday Night doing standup in LA.
That is all.

I'm always up for more Max stories. The mimicking Santa Claus one is up there near "with Juan Pierre?" for best Max story told on the show.
Jason: I'd love to know what you thought of the Stella show. I didn't make it to it, but I would've loved to. Post in the Stella show thread (http://aspecialthing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1560).

Dry Times' relocation to L.A. appears to have given GWF a shot in the arm. Fingers crossed for more in-studio appearances from Toph (assuming there's room in his schedule once "Finding Jimmy Carter" gets up and running).
RE: Nash's interview on the GWF homepage... congrats on the Shaman, when do we get to see it?
And yes, "Fart Medicine" is definitely the funniest thing ever said on this show.

new GWF episode Tuesday January 6th, 2009
"Lesley Wolff Gives Boyfirend Free Pass On New Years, Offers to Get Dry Times Laid"
Another fine LA lady has thrown her hat in the get Topher laid ring and this time she doesn't write a sex column and isn't flashing her boobs. Join Guys With Feelings today with their guest Lesley Wolff who talks about her standup classes, her boyfriend "Lance's" lack of commitment, and how she knows a ton of preppy girls that Topher can sleep with while he's in LA. (Toper is threatening to leave LA by the way, listeners you must stop this.)
Plus, Nash hates the new mall in town, Jeff's mom's recipe for "Fart Soup," and why Nash's Mom thinks everybody's on drugs in LA. Also, to attend one of Lesley Wolff's standup classes email lesleywolff@gmail.com. Classes begin in February.
Today's GWF HOTLINE QUESTION: How Dry Times stay in LA? If so, for how long? Call 323-822-0012 and leave a message.

Always great to hear Dugan.
When Dugan said "International" about your broadening the scope of your standup, did he imply the pun "InterNashional"? That'd be a great name for the first standup special you tape abroad.
