Please, no cartoon t-shirt requests. Any thoughts on the new Melvins album?

I like it, but I'm an unapologetic Melvins fan. They seem to be getting less "heavy" with age, which isn't my favorite thing in the world, but there are still a few tracks where I do the old horned hand, leg kick, headbang.

I love the new Melvins album, can't wait to see them next month, and I'm really looking forward to the new Big Business album

I enjoy some of the Melvins' stuff, but they are pretty fortunate to hail from Aberdeen, WA. I think it was one of the guys from Mudhoney who said something along the lines of "I am convinced there is a segment of our audience who come to our shows strictly because we knew Kurt Cobain." I'm not knocking the band's musical output(a lot of it has been very good), I just find this to be an interesting phenomenon.

I think Kurt was pretty fortunate that the Melvins were from Aberdeen (technically, Montesano, next town over).

Give me forty six... give me forty five... weeping... jack belt loaded... hiiiiiiiigh...

The Melvins stand on their own two legs just fine. I did like A Senile Animal more than the latest, but I don't think I'll ever like a Melvins album more than I liked Stag.

Touche - no Buzz, Kurt may not get into punk, then who knows what.

Sorry to go off on a grunge tangent in the metal thread. Hey, Metal Church was from Aberdeen, let's talk about them!!

I like the Melvins CD "Nude With Boots." I was trying to simply sum it up to my roomate and came up with that they moved down on the neck of the guitar, sorta out of their comfort range. I know, i am a poet, still a good album, cant wait to see them in Chicago and how the new record sounds live, hopefully Jello Biafra will show up again...

I will request ALL of the cartoon t-shirts I want. NO GODS, NO MASTERS.

Ahem. The metal.

I love The Melvins. I don't really think of them as a metal band, really, but they're not not either. Sort of like Zeppelin. Not band company to keep.

Anyway, in the latest issue of LA Weekly, King Buzzo makes the point that they could be better perceived as an L.A. band, really. (http://www.laweekly.com/music/music/the-melvins-take-us-on-a-tour-of-their-los-angeles/19226/)

But who cares?

First Metal Church album was awesome, and half of the second one. I'll stand by that. I'll stand by these albums, too.

I love the Melvins' Stag. It holds a special place in my heart because Dan Maines from Clutch played it when I was hangin' backstage with them and shit, BRAG.

You missed this one: 21 Gothenburg, Sweden Lisebergshallen

I'm off to get tickets. I actually had Hunting Girl going through my head as I fell asleep last night.

As for actual Metal, I'm eagerly awaiting the sophomore release from Enter The Hunt. I thought the debut was one of the best albums of 2006 and rumor has it that everything that was great about that album will be ratched up a notch for the second album. I can't wait.

Edited to say: maybe I won't go see Tull this time. They will be playing primarily material from their first three bluesy albums This Was, Stand Up and Benefit. Eh.

I am currently sitting in my office at work & wearing the "Killers" hi-top model. They make me happy everytime I put them on.

And since I'm a mild-mannered father of two about to turn 35, why wouldn't I spend grandma's $25 birthday check on "Centuries of Torment: The First 20 Years" - the three-disc CANNIBAL CORPSE dvd set?!?

I'm about 2 hours and 15 minutes in to the THREE HOUR documentary that comprises the first disc. It's so awesome - it's a little bit of time travel for me, to see demos I had, shows I saw, people I know! But more than that, THIS is the way to put together a dvd for fans. Forget the live show and 20 minutes of "backstage" footage - do a three hour treatise on CANNIBAL CORPSE, with the proper diversions in to death metal history. Astounding.

Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha show up as talking heads, too.

Oh yes, Netflix has this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780524/) as being released on September 16th. I haven't seen it but I've heard nothing but good things from people who have. I don't care for some of the bands, but I'm still interested.

He takes a pride in probing all your secret moves. His tearless retina takes pictures that can prove... We could go on forever.

That graphic would look perfect on a handbill taped haphazardly to a lamp post in front of the Whiskey on the strip. Or stapled to the side of the Rainbow Bar and Grill. I say that like I've been there - I don't even know if the Rainbow HAS a side, for God's Sake!
