Re. vodka ad:

I love the foggy fourth wall breakdown, but it's getting a bit predictable by now. Maybe they need to find a fifth wall to break down?

The floury ending in this one reminds me of Paul McCarthy's condiment-inspired video and performance work. . .

Two Ove gloves, the rope trick mime routine and "Zach's just going to do whatever he wants every take anyways"

I hope these guys continue to work together. The blending of the two sensibilities creates something awesome every time.

The Brule character has proved so popular that he is being given his own six-episode spin-off show, tentatively titled “Check It Out!,” starring Mr. Reilly and produced by Mr. Wareheim and Mr. Heidecker. “So much happens in a day of him improvising and us throwing stuff at him that you want to use it all,” Mr. Heidecker said of Mr. Reilly.

AWESOMECON was....well, awesome. Much bigger turnout than last year, which I guess is a good thing for Tim and Eric, but bad for the line length (lines for autographs, pictures, etc.). Bob Odenkirk sang karaoke, and we all laughed. Ruth Carr sang "Come Over" and we all giggled nervously. Richard Dunn signed photos, and we all slowly contemplated the finality of the reaper, and the inevitability of his cold, cold hand of death.

Comedians of Comedy was a nice way to unwind after a long, AWESOMECON day. Sarah Silverman was the surprise guest (surprise to me, anyway), no Zach, but you can't win them all.

I saw Thomas Lennon & Joe Lo Truglio (the State/Red Hot American Summer, etc.), and the big orange gay dude who is not Brian Posehn on the Sarah Silverman show at a bar afterwards, so that was pretty sweet.

The hate for T&E on the internet in general is ridiculous. A while back after Tim got stabbed, some of the comments on imdb and the Adult Swim message boards were truly disgusting.

I think they're really funny guys!

Aaron1933
July 29, 2008, 1:59 PM
The Village Voice article is really great. I like this idea:

Eric Wareheim: We made episode called "Getting it Done With Richard Dunn" and Tanese Gray, and it was a talk show, just those two for a full 11.5 minutes. And we loved it, it was very dry, very slow, and they just weren't willing to sacrifice an Awesome Show for that.

I wish they would do that; go the Wonder Showzen route and make some episodes that complete diverge from the format and center on one weird thing.

And in regards to the hatred, on the contrary, I never expected Tim and Eric to develop such a huge fanbase. A few years ago, when they first came into the public eye, the hatred was almost unanimous, and it seems to have cooled quite a bit at this point.

It's weird that Village Voice article points out the Ooh Mama sketch as unfunny, because it's right next to Spaghett as the best stuff they've done I think. While Spaghett is really funny intentionally, and maybe not so much too, the Ooh Mama skit has everything else they do well (the video loops, the lack of focus that finds focus by the end of the bit, the mother's reactions, the weird nostalgic setting, and the image manipulation stuff too) and a soothing rhythm of insanity to go along with it.

How dare they criticize something I love!

Jouster
July 29, 2008, 5:20 PM
I don't think they did. They said "unfunny" in quotes, and pointed out how it lacks any kind of traditional structure or punchline, but I don't think either was said in a derogatory way.

erechoveraker

I think the multiple mentions of it maybe stuck out more for me. Besides, there has to be less accessible material of theirs than Ooh Mama, right?

Haha, I'd honestly say Ooh Mama is probably one of the least accessible things they've done, which is not to say it's bad. But it definitely sticks out as an example of the insanity Tim and Eric are capable of creating, which is why it's cited so often.

Dan B

Speaking of Ooh Mama, I found the music they used for that in GarageBand. Deep Electric Piano loops.

erechoveraker
July 29, 2008, 10:02 PM
haha yeah, I phrased that way incorrectly. Ooh Mama is definitely up there on the weird, I was thinking more of the stuff that could be taken out of context though, just clicking through, where Ooh Mama is just pretty much all there is to it? That doesn't make so much sense either, so I will stop typing.

Now.

"Jim and Derrick" was my favorite of this season so far. I don't know how they can top that, unless they do another all-out satire episode that nails the target perfectly.

Bravo, Jim and Derrick.

I'm pretty sure there's one more, I thought there was a 30 episode order after season 1

Aaron1933
August 30, 2008, 12:26 AM
Yeah, there's at least 30 episodes in this order (including season two and season three), so probably one more season and then it's nebulous. Although they did say when the 30 episodes were originally announced that they'd like to end the show when the run is finished.

However, they have at least two more series in development, with "Check It Out" (the Brule show) and "The New Big Ball" with Neil Hamburger.

Speaking of Neil Hamburger, was that him out of character (I should know his real name) at the very end?

This season was weird. Probably the weakest of the three for me, but still had plenty of highlights. Muscles for Bones was probably the only episode I outright didn't like, and the CORBS thing ran thin pretty fast (although other parts of that episode were good). The Rascal episode was great though, as was the season opener. And I knew there were only ten episodes this season, but I was still taken aback by the words "season finale" last night.

Also, coincidentally I baked some homemade brownies yesterday afternoon (thanks to Everyday Food), and promptly threw them in the garbage this morning because I can't not think about all the goo and sounds and goo and yuck.

Tonight I went to see an advanced screening of 'Role Models' and during the Q&A portion, Paul Rudd was asked who would he most like to work with that he hasn't yet. Answer - Tim & Eric. Apparently he's a huge huge gushing fan.

Just thought I'd share...make it happen, someone. Like AST magic.

Distributor Warner Home Video has announced that Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! - Season 2 will come to DVD on February 10th. This disc collects all 10 episodes: "Vacation," "Dads Off," "Forest," "Dolls," "Coma," "Robin," "Carol," "Innernette," "Pepperoni" and "Embarrassed". They are presented in full frame video with English audio, and the cost is $19.97 SRP. Here's a look at the package art. It's...different.

Is that from tvshowsondvd.com? They are NOT Tim and Eric fans over there. The Season 1 Review on the site is brutal.

Does this remind anyone else of the Channel 5 Child Showcase?! The awkward fidgeting and stuff?

Yes, it absolutely does! Even the structure of the song is similar.
