From Herzog:

SWEET
TUES. 7/15
THE SLIPPER ROOM (SW corner of Orchard and Stanton)
8:30, $10 (special price this week)

BRENT WEINBACH
JOHN MULANEY
JAY LARSON
with a great set of new and recent favorite material, by LA's new favorite Jew (and they have a lot!!) SETH HERZOG
(Sorry folks for time purposes, my mother will not be making an appearance this Tues., but that means an extra special one next week!!)

Hey there, as I write this, I'm currently in the sunny, beautiful city of Los Angeles. Full of so many beautiful young people, that I feel like the city hires them just to walk around to prove the tourists, 'that it is everything you thought it would be'. I feel like at some point, some Anthony Sabato the 3rd, is saying to a friend, "yeah, I'd love to go listen to listen to some Maya Angelou tapes today, my shift starts soon. I got to go walk down Melrose and then sit a cafe staring at my headshots and pretend I never read." Lots of folks like to hate on LA, but I have to tell, I'm digging it. I've drunk the 'soy latte' and been seduced by the ocean and now think Maroon 5 is a good band. HOWEVER, I've only been here a few days and I'm coming back very soon, as in right now, so I can host the shit of this week's SWEET.
Now this week, we have a slightly different Sweet show. SF superstar Brent Weinbach, is in town wanted a show in NY where he could really stretch out and do a 50 min set., so I decided to make this week's show Sweet Presents: Brent Weinbach (and friends), also not knowing if I'd be back in time to be apart of it. But have no fear my children, I'll be there.

Now here are 3 guys who almost never talk down to 'black people':
BRENT WEINBACH: Taking the Sweet stage this week for the first time for a nice long set is the new alt comedy king hailing from San Francisco. The most recent Andy Kaufman award winner, who has toured with the infamous "Comedians of Comedy" as well as headlined shows at both the Coachella Festival and Bumpershoot. So if you are a connoisseur of well-crafted off beat comedy, and have never seen this man before or if you have and want to dig it again, than I would highly suggest donning your best deconstuctive comedy cap and settling in for an evening of wonderment.
JOHN MULANEY: A true Sweet favorite, who is quickly becoming the new wonder boy of NY comedy. This current "Best Week Ever" correspondent, has already done sets on Conan (not once, but twice), he's recently just 'wowed' them at the Bonaroo Festival, all while writing on the new Demetri Martin show on Comedy Central. He's the former host of the popular "Oh, Hello" show and if you have had your ear anywhere near NY comedy in the last year, than you know who is. If you don't, you need to.
JAY LARSON: Back again on the Sweet stage is this recent LA transplant, who, after rocking out at the Montreal Comedy Fest, was mentioned in Variety as their Top 5 "Ones to Watch". He's energy and zazz (yeah I said zazz) is always noted when discussing him and was showcased on Craig Ferguson show as well as CC's "Live at Gotham". He's as cuddly as it gets but you may not want to get too close...cause as you'll see. He bites.

In the 'New Music You Need' dept:
The incomparable Peter Salett has a new record coming out this month, "In the Ocean of the Stars". I have heard some of it and I truly think its some of his best work. I defy you to listen to "Some Boys aren't coming home" and not cry, at least a little. He is having 2 record release shows/parites, one in LA and NY (SO Bi-coastie)
LA: Thurs (7/17) at the M Bar (on Vine just north of Fountain) at 8ish
NY: Weds (7/23) at the Living Room (on Ludlow just south of Stanton) at 10, with post show party upstairs, with DJ Mr. Blue!!

This is going to be a super show on all accounts. I'm very excited to get back home to be a part of it. And those of you who love the smart comedy, should make it your business to be there to witness this!

Also there are only 3 Sweet shows left, until a 6 week break, so make sure you make it out to one of them, or else you'll have to go the whole summer feeling empty and not knowing why.

Making a fuss and Cutting off nuts,
Seth Herzog
