It's about time I created this thread, because I can't possibly be the only Oklahoman on this board.

There isn't a whole lot of comedy going on here, but the scene is small enough that it's fairly easy to get stage time, and the scene is definitely growing.

I'm from Norman and pretty much only know about the stuff going on in OKC/Norman, so hopefully there is a Tulsan here that can fill in what's going on up there.

"Mondays Don't Suck"
Every other Monday.
51st Street Speakeasy (http://www.myspace.com/368654421), 8 p.m.
A bi-weekly comedy show put on by 796 Entertainment (http://796entertainment.com/). They typically have 3-4 local comics (with one doing a 40 minute headliner set) as well some skits and short videos. It's well-attended and the audience is always really respectful.

"Norman Comedy's Open Mic"
Every Tuesday
Othello's of Norman (http://www.othellosnorman.com/calendar.php), 9 p.m.
A weekly open mic that offers comics more freedom than anywhere else. Each comic gets 10 minutes to do whatever. The audience is somewhat inconsistent and is probably the toughest place to get laughs in the area, but it's also the best place to gain experience. This is the place where I started.

"Loony Bin Open Mic"
Every Wednesday
Loony Bin Comedy Club (http://www.loonybincomedy.com/ok/), 7 p.m.
The Loony Bin is the only comedy club in the area that offers an open mic. Ten comic gets 4 minutes to do clean material (if more than 10 comics show up, there is a raffle), and you are only allowed to go up every other week. The club tends to cater to the more redneck/blue collar type comedy, so those comics tend to get preferential treatment and move up to MC or feature more quickly.

The Loony Bin (http://www.loonybincomedy.com/ok/) and Stooges Comedy Club (http://www.stoogescomedy.com/) obviously have the typical comedy club type stuff Wednesday through Sunday, but they very, very rarely bring anybody of note.

Indie rock club the Opolis (http://www.starlightmints.com/opolis.html) also occasionally hosts comedy shows. They've previously had Todd Barry and Neil Hamburger perform, as well as having a local comedy night every few months.

796 Entertainment (http://796entertainment.com/) also occasionally hosts other comedy shows around town aside from their "Mondays Don't Suck." They were doing a bi-weekly show in Norman at the Red Room called "Thursdays Don't Suck" but I believe they stopped doing that.

Thank you so much for starting this thread! I plan to be visiting in March and this gives me a great starting point.

Thanks for posting this.. I'm from Norman originally and visit now and again... I've never tried to perform while I was there, but I might try to sometime.
