Bay Area AST'ies (-ers?)

I'm up in the greater Bay Area from Monday to Wednesday 10/20 to the 22nd and was looking at the open mic list at: http://www.sfstandup.com/openmics/ any specific recommendations?

I'll be in Walnut Creek/ Concord but I'll have wheels to go places and I am familiar enough with the Bartholomew if it means going into SF. My only restrictions are that I'm booked with day-job BS all-day-long (my agendas end at about 5pm).

Is there a good Monday night open mic?
How long are the sets at Annie's Social Club?
Wednesday ideas?

Personal opinions and scurrilous rumors welcome.

Thanks,

Gene

Annie's gives you five. Totally go. Talk to hosts Jeff or Chad and have them point out AST legends like Drieux and Kevin O'Shea!

Yeah, Annie's is solid. It would be a good idea to e-mail Jeff and Chad on Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning at comedyspeakeasy@sfstandup.com and ask for a set. Let them know you're in from out of town and they'll definitely hook you up.

It's also a good show anyway. Lots of SF's best hit that spot regularly.

Including me. Apparently I'm a legend*!

On Monday night you could stop by Club Deluxe in the Haight, although that open mike has been weird, schedule-wise, lately. At last word there was an open mike from 8-9 pm before the scheduled show.

There's also Tommy T's in Pleasanton, which would be a pleasant drive down 680 for you from Walnut Creek. They do charge $5 at the door and the crowds can be hit-or-miss. They also regularly tape sets for rooftopcomedy.com, which could be an incentive.

Oh, and it's right next door to an In-N-Out Burger. So at least if you bomb you can drown your sorrows in a double-double, animal style.

*legendary at bombing!

I just emailed Jeff and Chad so we'll see if I get on. I'm getting a wee bit sick so I might just shoot for Tuesday night.

I have no clue what this business trip I am going up for entails in the PM hours, my company is just going to have to suck it if I have to catch the train into SF for Annie's at 5pm. Like I want to hang out with vendors eating free food. Pah!

I am looking forward to bombing at a new venue!

Now I am off to blaze up I-5 to the glorious metropolis that is Walnut Creek.

Yeah, we tape 'em at Tommy T's, just hit us up on Myspace (or PM me about it!) if you want us to post your set on Rooftop, if you do decide to go there.

And I did not know there was a In-N-Out by there! Then again, I've only been there once. That's my incentive to try and make it out there.

I remember when Walnut Creek had a Virtual World. That was an amazing experience in my life as a 6th grader.

I remember when Blanca Castillo swam for the Walnut Creek Auqua Bears at Heather Farms. She was my hero.

I remember when I realized I forgot to pack a non-ironic t-shirt to wear tomorrow.

That was 3:30 today.

I'm on for 5 at Annie's tomorrow!

It won't be a very long set but I guarantee it will be disappointing!

I loved Red Planet!

I'm getting ready for my corporate shilling tomorrow or I'd totally drive down the road to Tommy T's I'll plan on it next trip.

So, Gene came to Annie's tonight and had an awesome set. It was also nice to meet in person so he could see that I don't have a mustache and am indeed much fatter than I represent in my avatar.

Oh, and Gene has some fantastic business cards. If you have a chance to get one, do it. They're in my top five business cards ever.

Guilty as charged.

Drieux is indeed an unmustachioed tub of goo. Also the Robin Williams chick is either the greatest comedy genius since Andy Kaufman or a huuuge nutbat. Either way that was as solid a 5 minutes of character work as I have ever seen. If I wasn't already married I would have fallen in love tonight.

I blowged about Annie's if anyone gives a knuckle-fuck http://aspecialthing.com/forum/blog.php?b=66
