A new (23+ minute) video was just uploaded to Louis C.K.'s YouTube account with this description: "This was a set I did last night at the Comedy Cellar, mostly trying out new material. SOme of these jokes work and some very much don't. There were about 25 people in the audience. I just thought I'd throw it up here for a while."
It's pretty much exactly what the description says - and the audio is horribly out of sync; Louis is hilarious, but the bits aren't polished... but I didn't come here to say any of that.
This is what stood out to me, this line: "Here's another indefensible point...." and then Louis launches into some obscene, offensive bit... per usual. Which is a bit part of why I love what he does.
In this video from a little over 3 years ago, Louis does something similar. You can tell he's only got a template of what he's going to say and around 7-8 minutes he says, "What other terrible things to defend?".
Matt Ruby at Sandpaper Suit has a
good blog entry about Louis CK and the video above.
I typically can't get behind a comic who's hyper contrarian just for the sake of it, but Louis isn't that type of comic... for one, he's hilarious - and he's not preachy. He's offensive, but it's in service of this high quality material he's CONSTANTLY churning out.
It's kind of a spectacle to see his unpolished gems in media res, no?
